Español NM2Señora Kirk
Weekly Oral Assignment
Every other week you will record a spontaneous 3 - 4 minute oral and turn it in on Thursday in class or by internet by midnight. If you do not turn in your oral on time, you will stay in at lunch on Friday to do it in the library. How can you record your oral? Some options are...- Record on a cassette or CD and bring it to class.- Use a microphone to record it on Voicethread (voicethread.com), then email it to me.- Use your MP3 player or another recording device, then email it to me.- Record it on your cell phone and send it to my email.- Other ideas?Depending on how you record your oral, you can either turn it in during class or email it to jkirk@sturgischarterschool.org. Emails must be received by midnight on the due date. What can you talk about? The goal of this activity is to improve fluency and to speak with more confidence about a variety of topics, so YOU get to decide what to talk about. The only requirement is that your topic of choice be appropriate and interesting, and that you never repeat a topic. DO NOT PREPARE ANY WRITTEN NOTES OR USE ANY BOOKS OR NOTES WHILE YOU RECORD. The point is to speak spontaneously, without any planning. Each oral should ONLY take you 3 to 4 minutes, because no time will be spent planning. Errors are inevitable and should not be your primary concern, though you are encouraged to self-correct as you speak if you catch yourself making a mistake. On the back of this sheet is a list of suggested topics. You are free to speak on any of these topics or to choose your own topic. Do not repeat a topic.RecommendationsUse filler words like pues, bueno, la verdad es que, o sea, entonces, pues, así que, luego, etc. to fill your pauses. Try not to use English fillers (um, like, whatever, so, etc.)!You are strongly encouraged to practice the new verb tenses and vocabulary that we are learning in class. This is a no-pressure, private place to practice!GradingOrals will be worth 1 Quiz grade. Each oral is graded on a credit/no-credit basis. You will receive full credit each week for turning in your oral on time (either in person at the start of class, or emailed before class) and for speaking only Spanish for at least 2 minutes. You will not lose credit for having grammatical errors. No partial credit will be given for orals that are too short or are turned in late.I promise to listen to all your orals in full (and I will be using a stopwatch!), but there will be no feedback given to students on their orals. Students receive continuous feedback and correction in class and, on the orals, are instead encouraged to practice what we learn without the pressure of being corrected.Technological difficulties are NOT an excuse to turn in your orals late. Please plan ahead.Your first oral is due Thursday, September 9. Orals are due every Friday (or Thursday) of the school year (excluding Thanksgiving break, Winter Break, February Break, and Spring Break).

Extra credit? You can earn 5 extra points if you investigate a topic from the Spanish speaking world. First, read an article in a Spanish speaking newspaper or magazine. Then, in your oral, summarize the topic in your own words and then share your thoughts, reactions and opinions.
Suggested Topics (you are not limited to these)

¿Cómo has cambiado?
