This document discusses mobile and web interfaces. It describes how mobile interfaces are used on handheld devices for everyday tasks through various apps. 2. MOBILE INTERFACE
• Handheld devices intended to be used while on the move.
• Commonly use for everyday and working life.
• Applications running on mobile have been developed widely, e.g.
 Apps for room bookings and hotel check in.
 Apps for education especially education for kids.
 Supermarkets online shopping
 In the streets for multi-user gaming
 Apps for social networking ie Facebook and Twitter.

3. MOBILE CHALLENGES
• Most of the devices uses small screens, small number of keys and restricted number
of controls
• Mobile nowadays comes with various type of operating system but none of it
compatible with each other. In other words, its hard for developer to develop apps in
various operating system.
• Creative models including:
• roller wheels, rocker dials, up/down ‘lips’ on the face of phones, 2-way and 4-way
directional keypads, softkeys, silk-screened buttons
• Usability and preference varies
• depends on the dexterity and commitment of the user

4. RESEARCH AND
DESIGN ISSUES
• Based on research and survey, most of the user complaining about
the size of the mobile. Mobile cannot replace function of computer or
laptop.
• Keypad or virtual keyboard the most critical issue. Most of the mobile
using virtual keyboard which is not suitable for the eldest and OKU.
• Too many apps been developed and high potential to be attacked by
hackers. For example Maybank2u and CIMB Clicks had been
attacked early October.

5. WEB INTERFACE
• Refers to the interaction between a user and software running on a Web server.
• The user interface is the Web browser and the Web page it has downloaded and
rendered.
• A web application or web app is any software that runs in a web browser. It is created
in a browser-supported programming language (such as the combination of
JavaScript, HTML and CSS) and relies on a web browser to render the application.
• Web applications are popular due to the ubiquity of web browsers, and the
convenience of using a web browser as a client, sometimes called a thin client. The
ability to update and maintain web applications without distributing and installing
software on potentially thousands of client computers is a key reason for their
popularity, as is the inherent support for cross-platform compatibility.
• Common web applications include webmail, online retail sales, online auctions, wikis
and many other functions.

6. WEB CHALLENGES
• Interactive - On a content-rich site, users mostly click links and occasionally search.
Yet, in a web application, they enter data, sort it, rearrange it, and move back and
forth through the screens.
• Language – Websites will come from around the globe. As for country that commonly
use their own language, there will be a problem for user to use the websites. Luckily
we have google translate nowadays.
• Websites VS Blog - Blog is the biggest challenge nowadays. User can use blog as
their websites. User can managed the blog by their own instead of hire admin for the
page.
• Browser applications typically require little or no disk space on the client

7. RESEARCH AND DESIGN
ISSUES
• Too many websites in the internet. Developer need to design their website differently
and creatively.
• Web design must be user friendly. Make it easy for user to use the website. The
simple and commonly use icon is better.
• Web as a victims of attacker.
• Web applications allow for easier introduction of new user devices (e.g. smartphones,
tablets) because they have built-in browsers
