A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

7. ESADE ALUMNI 7Annual Report 14/15
Message from the President
The 2014/2015 academic year has been the last year in
which we have applied the strategic plan approved in
2011. Over the last four years, we have worked very hard
to put this plan into practice, and we have successfully
achieved the objectives we set of extending our network
and global activities.
Duringthisacademicyear,wehavealsofocusedondrawing
up the new strategic plan 2015-2018, a process in which the
association’s professional team has been joined by ESADE
faculty and staff members, alumni on our Executive Board,
Alumni Club members and also external professionals;
the participation of all of these people has enabled us to
gain a broad overview, which is reflected in a master plan
for the future. Taking stock of our changing environment,
this plan addresses the important challenges that our as-
sociation must face.
The key areas of our work in the academic year 2014/2015,
which define our strategic focus, have been:
—Aglobalnetwork, inresponsetotheinternationalprofile
of the students on ESADE’s programs, who come from
more than 100 different countries.
— Support for entrepreneurial activity, helping to look
forfundingandprovidingorientationonbusinessprojects.
One of the key players in this mission, the ESADE Alumni
investors network ESADE BAN, which has doubled its
investment to secure 4.7 million euros for 33 business
projects, has been named Best Business Angels Network
in Spain by the Spanish Association of Business Angels.
Agenuinesuccessofwhichwecanbeproud,spotlighting
ESADE as one of the most outstanding schools for
entrepreneurship.
— Solidarity, through pro bono consulting work provided
by alumni association members. Since the idea was
launched in 2007, more than 1,500 members have taken
part in 170 consultancy projects. On the strength of these
figures, our alumni association is quite unique and leads
the field in initiatives inspired by solidarity.
—Assistingtheprofessionaldevelopmentofourmembers
throughorientationservicesandactivitiesandprogrammes
focused on furthering their professional career.
— Networking between members, organising meetups to
createopportunitiesfornewcontactsthatwillcontribute
to their professional and personal development. Once
again, we must highlight the work performed by our
clubs; led by alumni on a voluntary basis, they organise
activities and meetings both to update knowledge and
to promote networking.
— The avowed intention of enhancing the prestige of
ESADE and contributing to its development through
various coordinated initiatives and projects, such as
promotionof“TheESADEChallengeforTalent”campaign,
a fundraising campaign for scholarships and research,
in which the role of the alumni is essential.
I would like to gratefully acknowledge the work carried out
by the members of the ESADE Alumni Executive Board, the
executive board of the clubs and chapters, the class dele-
gates, the pro bono consultants, the mentors and all those
who, “gratis et amore”, work together with the excellent
ESADE Alumni professional team to enrich our network
and make it stronger. Without them, none of the activities
described in this report would have been possible.
And finally, I would like to express my thanks and gratitude
to our outgoing President, Miguel Trias, for his work over
the last five years. It is under his presidency that the suc-
cessfulresultsandfigurescompiledinthisreporthavebeen
achieved, which have placed ESADE Alumni in its current
leading position among alumni associations worldwide.

Our aim is to drive
entrepreneurial activity
in society as a whole,
channelling supply and
demand between entre-
preneurs and investors
and helping them to meet
and match.
The path of an entrepreneur
is a brave one, but sometimes
only your own steps will
lead to where you want to
go. If alumni believe in their
idea, we believe in them.

16. ESADE ALUMNI Annual Report 14/15 16Entrepreneurship
Alumni Entrepreneurship offers support to both entrepre-
neurs, through a programme that combines activities and
services for project development (business plans, finance,
guidance, etc.), and private investors, through ESADE
BAN, the ESADE business angels network. Alumni En-
trepreneurship makes these investors aware of business
projects in which to invest, training activities, networking
opportunities and joint investment opportunities with
other ESADE BAN members.
SERVICES
1. Orientation for entrepreneurs
ESADE Alumni offers the possibility to arrange a person-
alised entrepreneur orientation interview in order to
provide the resources for the entrepreneur to define his/
her business model and develop a business plan. The dif-
ferent stages of definition, launch and consolidation of a
business project are analysed.
— Advice following agile methodologies for creating and
launching a start-up.
— Analysis and detection of strengths and weaknesses
in the project.
— Orientation on seeking funding for the project.
2. Legal Advice
We provide entrepreneurs and investors with guidance
and advice on the basic legal requirements that apply
to the various stages of development of a start-up pro-
ject. This advice is shared in group orientation sessions
(Legal Classroom).
3. Mentoring programme for entrepreneurs
The mentoring programme is a service aimed at entre-
preneurs, through which they receive support from a
network of mentors (successful business owners, profes-
sionals, entrepreneurs and ESADE BAN investors) over a
three-month period.
The aim is to attract professionals with relevant experi-
ence in a particular area who are willing to share informa-
tion and knowledge (as mentors) and put them in touch
with entrepreneurs (mentees) who can benefit from the
experience, advice and support of these professionals to
advance their start-ups.
ESADE BAN
ESADE BAN is a network of private investors promoted
by ESADE Alumni. It serves as a meeting point between
investors who are looking for investment opportunities
and entrepreneurs with innovative projects requiring
finance in their early stages.
This network focuses mainly on energising start-ups and
early-stagecompanies.Thetypeofinvestmentthemembers
of our network prefer is co-investment with other network
members or venture capital companies.
Notable examples of ESADE BAN investments include
Wuaki.tv, Wallapop, Redpoints, Notegraphy and Signa-

HOW DO THE FUNCTIONAL AND SECTOR-SPECIFIC
CLUBS WORK??
Clubmembersarethefirsttohearaboutforthcomingactivi-
ties, and they are given priority for registration and access.
They have the opportunity to learn from the experience
of experts in the sector, and they can network with other
alumni who share their field of interest, either in person
or through the LinkedIn groups and the directory, which
can be searched by sector and function. Furthermore, they
are allowed to bring a guest to most of the events.
The clubs are managed by executive boards composed of
alumni who apply their experience and their knowledge
to organising activities in which networking comes to the
fore, and members are brought up to date with the latest
developments in the sector or functional area of the club.
INTERCLUB COUNCIL MEETINGS
The Interclub Council is a body consisting of a represent-
ative of each of the Functional and Sector-specific Clubs.
Its aim is to share the best practices of each Club and
to exchange experiences with a view to inspiring oth-
er groups. The Council meets with the ESADE Alumni
management team three times a year, and during these
sessions the latest developments in the Alumni Network
are shared, new activities are evaluated and a dialogue is
established in which those present can put forward their
ideas and proposals.
Belonging to the executive boards of the Functional and
Sector-specific Clubs brings a sharp focus to networking
and is instrumental in learning about cutting-edge aspects
of the particular sector.
FUNCTIONAL AND SECTOR-SPECIFIC CLUB
NEWSLETTERS
Some clubs have their own newsletters in which alumni
are offered additional information about the sector or
functional area, including articles of interest, videos, in-
terviews with professionals and official studies and the
calendar of the club’s activities.

CLASS REUNIONS
Class reunions enhance professional and social rela-
tionships between alumni from the same class, as well
as giving them an insight into ESADE’s present and its
plans for the future.
At ESADE Alumni we offer support and ideas, custom-
ising the reunions according to the needs of each class.
Moreover, we have collaborative agreements with vari-
ous restaurants, bars and party venues, making it easier
and less expensive to organise exclusive activities to suit
each class: dinners, tasting events, cultural routes, talks,
symposia and class anniversaries.
CLASS SCHOLARSHIPS
More and more alumni are making a commitment to tal-
ent and the future of ESADE through class scholarships.
An increasing number of classes are setting up their own
class scholarship to finance the studies of future ESADE
students with their own donations.
— Thefollowingclasses are in theprocessof settingup joint
class scholarships: Lic&MBA 80, Lic&MBA 83, Lic&MBA
96, Lic&MBA 97, Lic&MBA 98.
— This academic year, MBA15 and BBA15 have created
class scholarships.
— The following class scholarships have been consolidated:
Lic&MBA 73, Lic&MBA 74, Lic&MBA 81, Lic&MBA 88,
Lic&MBA 95, BBA 13 and BBA 14.
CLASS DELEGATE MEETINGS
The meetings with class delegates offer ESADE Alumni a
more personalised opportunity to inform the most active
alumni in their classes about the latest developments in the
Alumni Network and all the services at their disposal. The
delegates, who serve as an important link between their
classmates and ESADE Alumni, take advantage of these
meetings to provide us with feedback from their classes,
and this in turn enables the network of alumni to continue
growing and improving.
