It audit methodologies

CobiT is a framework for IT governance and control developed by ISACA that defines 34 processes across 4 domains (planning, acquisition, delivery, and monitoring). BS 7799 is a British standard focused on IT security baseline controls across 10 categories. BSI is a German manual that describes 34 security modules, 420 security measures, and 209 threats. ITSEC and Common Criteria are methodologies for evaluating the security of IT systems and products at defined assurance levels. Each methodology has different strengths in areas like scope, structure, user-friendliness, and frequency of updates

It Security Audit Process
A security audit assesses security risks and controls to mitigate risks. It involves interviewing personnel, conducting vulnerability assessments, examining assets and policies, and using technology tools. The goals are to evaluate how difficult passwords are to crack, who has access to what data, whether malware scans are performed, and more. Effective audits are continuous and assess not just compliance but the quality of policies and controls.
Iso27001 The Road To Certification
ISO/IEC 27001 is a global standard that provides guidelines for establishing, implementing, maintaining, and improving an Information Security Management System (ISMS). It does not provide a one-size-fits-all blueprint but rather a framework of required methods. Building an ISO/IEC 27001-compliant ISMS involves establishing management support, governance, policy, risk assessment, controls implementation, monitoring, review, and continuous improvement. Certification involves staged audits to assess the documentation and implementation of the ISMS.

Is an agile SDLC an oxymoron?
Adaptive software development processes epitomized by Agile methodologies are based on continual improvement – incremental changes that emerge as teams iterate and learn about the product they are developing. This appears to conflict with the world of the program office, responsible for defining the software development lifecycle (SDLC), in which a stable and repeatable development process with well-defined ownership and controls is a common objective. Using recent examples in which agile methods have been successfully introduced into large organizations with existing SDLCs, we consider the difficulties of creating a verifiable process when the process itself is continually being modified, and look at how software development can be managed and controlled without stifling the benefits of adaptive software development processes.
