We are now introducing the industry’s first 5G NR-capable radio, called Ericsson AIR 6468. It features 64 transmit and 64 receive antennas enabling it to support our 5G plug-ins for both Massive MIMO and Multi-User MIMO. The high-performance beamforming, required for Massive MIMO, is enabled through the use of a split Cloud RAN architecture, which brings the required intelligence and scalability to this new radio. And, the AIR 6268 is designed for compatibility with the 5G NR standard while also supporting 4G/LTE.
In 2015, there were 3.6 billion mobile broadband subscriptions worldwide, corresponding to a penetration rate of less than 50% of world population. We expect mobile broadband subscriptions to more than double from now to 2021, adding 4.1 billion new connections worldwide, which of course represent a great potential for mobile operators.

Ericsson Technology Review: Evolving LTE to fit the 5G future Ericsson
Operators have no reason to be concerned about the future of LTE in a 5G world – its upcoming releases (Rel-14 and Rel-15) are intended to deliver on the most important 5G requirements. They will include enhancements to user data rates and system capacity with FD-MIMO, improved support for unlicensed operations, and latency reduction in both control and user planes. LTE will also be modified to address new use cases such as massive machine type communication, critical communications and intelligent transport systems. Both LTE Rel-14 (scheduled for completion in March 2017) and the strong ambitions for LTE Rel-15 indicate that a smooth transition from LTE to 5G through 5G plug-ins is the best course of action.
Ericsson Technology Review: Microwave backhaul evolution – reaching beyond 10...Ericsson
No matter how efficiently we use it, existing spectrum will not be sufficient to meet future requirements on network performance. Both radio access and backhaul will need more spectrum in the mid to long term. In light of this, work has started on the use of frequencies beyond 100GHz, enabled largely by advances in high-frequency semiconductor technology. When the large-scale deployment of beyond 100GHz solutions occurs – in the period 2025 to 2030 – our research suggests that the W and D bands will be able to support capacities in the 5 to 100Gbps range, over distances up to a few kilometers.
Microwave backhaul plays an important role in providing a good user experience and overall network performance. The backhaul capacity needed per base station differs substantially, depending on target data rates and population density.
Microwave backhaul technology is able to handle 100 percent of all radio access sites’ capacity needs. This is true for today as well as in 2020, when it will evolve to support multi-gigabit capacities in traditional frequency bands and beyond 10 gigabits in the millimeter wave.

Today, consumers have the power to take control of their health through smartphone apps, wearables and other connected devices – and it has never been easier to lose weight, improve sleep, count calories and get fit. This kind of simple, immediate access is also changing consumer attitudes and expectations when it comes to healthcare. Here we explore the transformation across three healthcare situations: preventative, routine and post-operative care.
Merged Reality: Understanding how virtual and augmented realities could trans...Ericsson Latin America
Incorporating technology into our everyday lives is quickly becoming the norm. The World Economic Forum calls the idea of merging the real with the digital – the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Virtual and augmented realities could encourage a similar technological revolution – one where consumers transition between virtual and physical worlds effortlessly for their everyday life activities.
However, in their current form, virtual and augmented technologies collide rather than merge with our physical reality. Today the bulky headsets cut off the user from their surroundings, as well as hinder mobility, and a highly interactive VR experience can induce nausea for some users.
Consumers expect next-generation networks like 5G to address these challenges and enrich shared experiences by providing a fast and high-bandwidth network.
In this Ericsson ConsumerLab report, we explore the impact of these imminent changes on consumer lifestyles, from the perspective of early adopters, laggards and consumers who are planning to use a headset in the future. We also look at the enabling role that next-generation networks like 5G could play.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
