1MDB denies overpaying for energy, real estate assets and getting preferential treatment in power
plant tenders.1MALAYSIA Development Bhd (1MDB) has cleared the air on allegations it overpaid for
certain power plants and plots of land in Penang, and received preferential treatment in power plant
tenders.1MDB also addressed questions about its debts and denied “insinuations” that it had spent a
whopping US$100 million (RM329 million) to secure an estimated RM11 billion power plant project
coded Project 3B.
Tenaga Nasional Bhd has made its highest ever net profit of RM6.4 billion in financial year ended
August 2014 which is an 18.5 per cent increase compared to RM5.4 billion last year.Its chairman Tan
Sri Leo Moggie said the rise was attributed to a reduction in corporate tax which account 54 per cent
of the RM1 billion increase as well as lower coal prices at US$83.6 a tonne.Tenaga Nasional also
invested a record high of RM10 billion in capital expenditure during the year to ensure a steady and
reliable supply of electricity.
Public Mutual Bhd, a wholly-owned unit of Public Bank Bhd, has declared distributions totalling over
RM312 million for nine of its funds.The gross distributions were declared for the financial year ended
October 31 2014, Malaysia's largest private unit trust company said in a statement today.The range
for the gross distribution per unit for the nine funds was between RM0.50 and RM6.00, it said.The
funds were Public Industry Fund, Public Sector Select Fund, Public Equity Fund, Public South-East Asia
Select Fund, Public Asia Ittikal Fund, Public Islamic Dividend Fund, PB Australia Dynamic Balanced
Fund, PB Asia Real Estate Income Fund and Public Islamic Bond Fund
Malaysia's domestic Producer Price Index (PPI) for September rose 0.6 per cent to 126.2 from 125.5 in
the same month last year. Month-on-month, the domestic PPI increased 0.2 per cent from 126.0 in
August. This was due to an increase in the PPI for local production by 0.3 per cent and a fall in the
import price index by 0.1 per cent.
Malaysia Airlines is offering guests the opportunity to upgrade their seats by determining their own
price through its latest product, MHupgrade.In a statement today, the airline said MHupgrade is based
on forecast empty seats available on First and Business Class for customers to submit their offer via
Malaysia Airlines' website."Guests with confirmed Economy or Business class tickets will receive an
email from Plusgrade within 24 hours after their purchase from the airline informing them of available
seats in the next higher class.
