MARKET UPDATES & STOCK RECOMMENDATION
Petronas Technology Ventures Sdn Bhd (PTVSB), a technology commercialisation arm of Petroliam Nasional Bhd
(Petronas), has signed a licensing agreement with Wasco Coatings (M) Sdn Bhd, a global pipeline coating specialist for
the commercialisation of REMCOAT. The agreement was signed at the 8th International Petroleum Technology
Conference.
Malaysia Airlines (MAS) has initiated talks to enter into a code-sharing deal with India’s Jet Airways for domestic
routes, especially in secondary cities, the Financial Chronicle reported. The report said Malaysia's Ministry of Transport
has sought clarifications on code-sharing by the designated airlines of both countries for domestic routes.
Alliance Bank Malaysia Bhd has appointed Joel Kornreich as its group chief executive officer effective from January 1
next year. Kornreich was previously with Citigroup for 20 years in various roles. Alliance Bank, in a statement today, said
he is known for the successful management of consumer banking businesses, built around superior service and
innovative solutions.
Oil prices sank further in Asia Friday, with analysts warning of little respite from the selling after plunging more than 40
per cent since June. US benchmark West Texas Intermediate (WTI) for January deliver was down 66 cents at US$59.29
in afternoon trade. The contract on Thursday closed below the psychological US$60 mark in New York for the first time
since July 2009. Brent crude was down 29 cents at US$63.39.
Halliburton, the world's second biggest oil services company, said Thursday it is slashing 1,000 jobs in its eastern
hemisphere offices amid tumbling global oil prices. The layoffs, which are effective immediately, represent 1.25 per
cent of Halliburton's 80,000-person workforce. The layoffs will take place in Europe, Asia, Africa, the Middle East and
Australia, but jobs in the Americas will not be affected.
Bumi Armada Bhd, via a consortium comprising its wholly-owned unit, Bumi Armada Offshore Holdings Ltd, and PT
Armada Gema Nusantara, has secured a US$1.18 billion (RM4.12 billion) contract from Husky-CNOOC Madura Ltd for
the supply of a floating production, storage and offloading vessel.
Perak Corporation Bhd (PCB) has received approval from the Securities Commission (SC) to withdraw its proposed
selective capital reduction (SCR), effectively calling off its privatisation plans. PCB, in a filing to Bursa Malaysia on
November 13, said it had sent a letter to SC for the withdrawal of the SCR.
