MARKET UPDATES & STOCK RECOMMENDATION
Oil prices resumed their downward spiral in Asian trade Thursday following another massive sell-off in
equities as traders grow increasingly concerned about the global economic outlook, analysts said.US
benchmark West Texas Intermediate (WTI) for November delivery fell 90 cents to a two-year low of
US$80.88 a barrel in late-morning trade. Brent crude for November retreated 43 cents to US$83.35, levels
last seen four years ago. Both contracts have lost more than a fifth of their value since hitting 2014 highs
in June.
Celcom Axiata Bhd anticipates a daily five to 10 per cent activation rate for its newly-launched Xpax
prepaid Internet plan from its user segment. Chief Marketing Officer Zalman Zainal said the Xpax is the
first prepaid Internet pack empowered with 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE)."The Xpax is designed with the
perfect, high speed Internet pack to enable everyone to gain access to richer mobile entertainment
content as well as give customers greater control over their usage and expenses," he told a press
conference here after launching the plan.
Eco World Development Group Bhd (EW) today announced its expression of interest to subscribe to a 30
per cent stake in Eco World International Bhd (EWI) worth RM562.5 million.In a filing to Bursa Malaysia,
EW said the proposed subscription is currently the most appropriate means for EW to venture overseas in
a significant manner without over-leveraging on the company's financial resources.EW has decided that it
will not deliberate further nor accept the offer to acquire about 1.18 acres of land located at 76-82 & 100
Church Street,Parramatta, New South Wales, Australia as announced months earlier.EWI's proposal to
undertake a listing of and quotation for its securities on the Main Market as a special purpose acquisition
company (SPAC) was announced earlier today in a separate announcement.
The Kuala Lumpur Tin Market (KLTM) depreciated by US$100 today to close at US$19,700 a tonne, in line
with the fall in the metal price on the London Metal Exchange (LME). "However, the decline on the LME
was marginal at US$5 to US$19,650 a tonne," a dealer said. He said the price on the KLTM fell as the
premium on Wednesday was too high. "The price was also lower due to the increased volume of selling at
the opening.
Malaysia will impose anti-dumping duties of between 3.15 and 29.37 per cent on hot-rolled coils (HRC)
imported from China, Indonesia and South Korea. The anti-dumping measures will be effective not more
than 120 days from the tomorrow, the International Trade and Industry Ministry said in a statement. The
measures are taken following a petition filed by Megasteel Sdn Bhd on behalf of local producers of hot-rolled
coils on June 19, 2014.
