 Castor seed futures traded marginally down on NCDEX due to lack
of enquiries from the export market. Further, lower demand and
higher arrivals in the spot market too put pressure on castor seed
prices. The contract for April delivery was trading at Rs 3662.00,
down by 0.22% or Rs 8.00 from its previous closing of Rs 3670.00.
The open interest of the contract stood at 149570 lots.
 Guar gum prices strengthened by Rs 120 to Rs 10,600 per quintal
in futures trading today on fresh buying at spot markets.
Besides, increased demand due to fall in supply of guarseeds from
growing regions led to rise in guar gum prices.
Barley futures are likely to remain supportive in the near term due
to limited stocks in local mandies coupled with strong demand of
coarse cereals in both domestic and international market. The
NCDEX futures to test 1145-1147 levels in the near term. Traders
stated that stocks of the barley are still reported at lower side. As
per market sources, the total carryover stocks of the barley are
currently reported at 1.50 lakh tonnes against 3.50 lakh tonnes of
the last year. Moreover, heavy rainfall in major barley producing
areas will also delays the new crop in the current season.
 Chana edged up by 0.19 per cent to Rs 3,618 per quintal in futures
trade today as speculators created fresh positions on improved
demand in the spot market. At the National Commodity and
Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX), chana for delivery in April moved up
by Rs 7, or 0.19 per cent, to Rs 3,618 per quintal with an open
interest of 1,36,550 lots.
ECONOMIC NEWS
 Union agriculture minister Shri Radha Mohan Singh along with
minister of state visited areas of Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and
Rajasthan which have been affected by untimely rains. They assure
a farming community that the government stands with them in this
hour of crisis. They further assured the farmers that the central
government is committed to provide irrigation water to every farmer
and every field. Agriculture ministry has also contributed all the
state governments to release appropriate relief compensation from
their state disaster response fund (SDRF) without any delay.
 Agriculture credit is not reaching small farm holders in India,
resulting in high level of indebtedness, Assocham said today. The
industry body, in its latest study, has also pitched for consolidation
of tiny farm lands for cooperative or corporate farming. The sister
state Telangana is also in much similar condition, it said, adding that
institutional credit is largely confined to cultivators with
landholdings above one hectare .
 Rain between end-February and mid-March damaged crops
standing on more than 10.67 million hectares (mHa), the agriculture
ministry said. The maximum damage was reported in Rajasthan
followed by Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. Preliminary reports said
wheat grown on 16.2 mHa sustained the maximum damage,
followed by mustard on 1.77 mHa and pulses on 1.13 mHa.
 India may be able to export basmati rice to China from this year,
with rice-shelling and exporting units registered with the National
Plant Protection Organisation (NPPO) being declared infestation
free.

MARKET
National Market Update
 Castor seed cash market continued to reel under pressure despite
reports of higher export demand. Sluggish trading activities continued at
the fag end of FY ending. Fresh trading activities are expected from the
second week of April. Overall sentiments in the market remain bearish.
Half of the major markets remained closed. Besides, stockists too would
try to drag market down as much as possible to buy at lower level. Market
participants should start buying around Rs3300/3400 for stock purpose.
Gains in market are expected in the second half of the year. Market expert
says that China has covered 85 percent of its annual need(1.8 lakh
tonne),EU and US too have covered 80 percent of their need so far.EU and
US annual need is expected to be 1.20 and 0.60 lakh tonne respectivey.
Demand from other countries is likely to improve in the month of April as
buyers are waiting for higher arrivals. Heavy burden of carryout is said to
be exhausted by 40 percent till now and pipe line is almost vaccant.So any
major dip from current level is unlikely. Demand from oil from national
and international market has improved and it may support market even at
peak arrival month (April).So the best time for seed buying is expected to
be April.
International Market Report
 Major international buyers are out of the market and they may enter into
the market by mid-April,bythen market is expected to get stabilized. Not
much trading activities is expected in global market this week too and major
buyers would remain busy with March closing. Fresh trading activities are
expected by the second week of April. Continuous banking holidays too
would keep trading activities at negligible level. The weak economic
scenario in China and Europe has reflected in castor oil export volume in
2014. China imported 24 percent lower oil in 2014 in comparison to
2013.However, good news is that improvement by 15 percent is expected
now. Castor oil in Rotterdam decreased from $1700 to $1525 per tonne in
last one month and may touch $1500 per tonne in the month of March.
Pressure on Indian market and decreasing trend continue to impact global
market in the weeks ahead.
