ENVIRONMENT – DEFINITION AND FUNCTIONS
ENVIRONMENT – DEFINITION AND FUNCTIONS
Environment is defined as the total planetary
inheritance and the totality of all resources. It includes
all the biotic and abiotic factors that influence each other.

ENVIRONMENT – DEFINITION AND FUNCTIONS
CARRYING CAPACITY
Carrying Capacity implies that the resource
extraction is not above the rate of regeneration
of resource and the wastes generated are
within the assimilating capacity of the
environment
ENVIRONMENT – DEFINITION AND FUNCTIONS
ABSORPTIVE CAPACITY
Absorptive Capacity means the ability of the
environment to absorb degradation.
ENVIRONMENT – DEFINITION AND FUNCTIONS
GLOBAL WARMING
Global Warming is the increase in the average
temperature of the earth’s lower atmosphere
as a result of the increase in greenhouse gases
since the Industrial Revolution
ENVIRONMENT – DEFINITION AND FUNCTIONS
OZON DEPLECTION
Ozone depletion refers to the phenomenon of
reductions in the amount of ozone in the
stratosphere. Ozone depletion is a major
environmental problem because it increases the
amount of ultraviolet (UV) radiation that reaches
Earth's surface, which increases the rate of skin
cancer, eye cataracts, and genetic and immune
system damage.
CHIPKO MOVEMENT AND APPIKO MOVEMENT
CHIPKO MOVEMENT AND APPIKO MOVEMENT
Chipko Movement was aimed at protecting forests in
the Himalayas during the 1970s. A similar movement
started in Karnataka also, which was named as Appiko
Movement.
Noted environmentalist
Sri. Sunderlal Bahuguna
was prominent among the leaders of
Chipko Movement
