Building and testing software can be a time- and resource-consuming task. Cloud computing/on-demand services such as Amazon EC2 provide a cost-effective way to scale applications and, for building and testing software, can reduce the time needed to find and correct problems, meaning a cost reduction as well.
Properly configuring your build tools (Maven, Ant,...), continuous integration servers (Continuum, Cruise Control,...), and testing tools (TestNG, Selenium,...) can enable you to run all the building/testing process in a cloud environment, simulating high-load environments, distributing long-running tests to reduce their execution time, using different environments for client or server applications, and so on -- and in the case of on-demand services such as Amazon EC2, pay only for the time you use it.
In this presentation we will introduce a development process and architecture using popular open source tools for the build and test process such as Apache Maven or Ant for building, Apache Continuum as continuous integration server, TestNG and Selenium for testing, and how to configure them to achieve the best results and performance in several typical use cases (long running testing processes, different client platforms,...) by using he Amazon Elastic Computing Cloud EC2, and therefore reducing time and costs compared to other solutions.

AppFuse is an open source project/application that uses best-of-breed Java open source tools to help you develop web applications quickly and efficiently. Not only does it provide documentation on how to develop light-weight POJO-based applications, it includes features that many applications need out-of-the-box: authentication and authorization, remember me, password hint, skinnability, file upload, Ajax libraries, signup and SSL switching. This is one of the main features in AppFuse that separates it from the other "CRUD Generation" frameworks like Ruby on Rails, Trails and Grails. AppFuse is already an application when you start using it, which means code examples are already in your project. Furthermore, because features already exist, the amount of boiler-plate code that most projects need will be eliminated.
In this session, you will learn Seven Simple Reasons to Use AppFuse. If you don't use it to start your own projects, hopefully you will see that it provides much of the boiler-plate code that can be used in Java-based web applications. Since it's Apache Licensed, you're more than welcome to copy/paste any code from it into your own applications.

The tutorial begins with a section which is an introduction to Spring Boot. It includes an introduction to Spring Boot, the benefits of using Spring Boot.
Following is a features section which includes the key features of Spring Boot like embedded servers, security, metrics etc. Next is a section about prototyping. It includes prototyping using CLI, getting started, the things that happen during prototyping, starter POMs and a demo, building Gradle, using plugin and adding dependencies, and hot reloading.
Consecutively there is a section about managing profiles. It includes managing profiles aka managing environment in Grails like binding properties and its examples, using spring data to add dependency. Puppet is an infrastructure-as-code tool that allows easy and automated provisioning of servers, defining the packages, configuration, services,... in code. Enabling DevOps culture, tools like Puppet help drive Agile development all the way to operations and systems administration, and along with continuous integration tools like Jenkins, it is a key piece to accomplish repeatability and continuous delivery, automating the operations side during development, QA or production, and enabling testing of systems configuration.
Traditionally a field for system administrators, Puppet can empower developers, allowing both to collaborate coding the infrastructure needed for their developments, whether it runs in hardware, virtual machines or cloud. Developers and sysadmins can define what JDK version must be installed, application server, version, configuration files, war and jar files,... and easily make changes that propagate across all nodes.
Using Vagrant, a command line automation layer for VirtualBox, they can also spin off virtual machines in their local box, easily from scratch with the same configuration as production servers, do development or testing and tear them down afterwards.
We’ll show how to install and manage Puppet nodes with JDK, multiple application server instances with installed web applications, database, configuration files and all the supporting services. Including getting up and running with Vagrant and VirtualBox for quickstart and Puppet experiments, as well as setting up automated testing of the Puppet code.
ChemSpider is one of the chemistry community’s primary public compound databases. Containing tens of millions of chemical compounds and its associated data ChemSpider serves data to many tens of websites and software applications at this point. This presentation will provide an overview of the expanding reach of the ChemSpider platform and the nature of solutions that it helps to enable. We will also discuss some of the future directions for the project that are envisaged and how we intend to continue expanding the impact for the platform.

This short presentation was given during a panel discussion on mobile applications for senior health care. It shows how a family can use this free task management application to coordinate the health care of an elderly parent. Projects can be assigned, budgets tracked, and progress shared within this app.
Weave was originally designed for small businesses, but it's usefulness can be extended to any group that needs to share projects and tasks.

Mobile design needs to stop being an afterthought and start being the default. In this presentation, web developers Brent Swisher and Daniel Slaughter will cover why and how Grand Valley State University implemented their in-house responsive Content Management System. The developers will discuss some of the ways the CMS was structured to make mobile-friendly sites the new standard at GVSU. Major design concepts will be covered, including the decision to break website content into “chunks” that can scale between desktop, tablet, and mobile. They will also discuss some of the challenges encountered when working with the university as a whole, and how they helped GVSU shift from a desktop-only to mobile-friendly approach.

The increased use of OpenStreetMap in commercial products creates many opportunities and challenges for the OSM community and its commercial users. While the creation of spatial data remains the domain of a few experts, the continued growth of mobile applications results in the creation of massive geodata by consumers from which the OSM project can certainly benefit. In parallel, commercial users will need to feel less constrained to protect their geodata allowing them to shift their focus on developing greater competitive solutions for their customers. This session will explore possible collaboration models between commercial users of OSM and the broader community, and offer insights into reaching greater participation in the OSM project.

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

zkStudyClub - Reef: Fast Succinct Non-Interactive Zero-Knowledge Regex ProofsAlex Pruden
This paper presents Reef, a system for generating publicly verifiable succinct non-interactive zero-knowledge proofs that a committed document matches or does not match a regular expression. We describe applications such as proving the strength of passwords, the provenance of email despite redactions, the validity of oblivious DNS queries, and the existence of mutations in DNA. Reef supports the Perl Compatible Regular Expression syntax, including wildcards, alternation, ranges, capture groups, Kleene star, negations, and lookarounds. Reef introduces a new type of automata, Skipping Alternating Finite Automata (SAFA), that skips irrelevant parts of a document when producing proofs without undermining soundness, and instantiates SAFA with a lookup argument. Our experimental evaluation confirms that Reef can generate proofs for documents with 32M characters; the proofs are small and cheap to verify (under a second).
