CHECKLIST the
comments we
listen from our
mother’s on a
daily basis.
Children often feel
that their parents
control them by
restricting them not to
do few things. Why do
you feel so?
Extract no 1 – this is the
starting of the poem when
mother of Amanda is
introduced and she is warning
her not to bite her nails and
hunch her shoulers because
she is concerned about her
body and physique.
Where as Amanda is in her
own world and daydreaming
about her fantasies.
Amanda shows various mood swings to her mother
because she was constantly nagging.
These emojis totally represent the state of Amanda
being a teenager girl.
This checklist will enable all of you to relate to the current scenario of Amanda
where she is getting reprimanded by her mother.
Eating junk food/chocolates/sweets
Going out / playing with friends all day
Watching television for long hours
Sleeping till late in the morning
Doing / using cosmetics / make up
Tying out stylish hair styles
Playing video games all the time
Amanda started day-dreaming
immediately after her mother scolds
her
Three tasks given by Amanda’s
mother to her.
Children often feel

This poem has a
tone and a rhyme
scheme which lends
a beautiful theme to
the poem.
Here Amanda can be seen as thinking that she
should go to some nearest tower where no one
can disturb her and she can live peacefully.
1. The central idea or theme of the poem Amanda is that the parents who do not understand the
nature of their children.
2. They keep giving commands to their children. They want them (their children) adopt the norms
of society.
3. This has adverse impact on the upbringing of the children.
4. Nagging continuously behind school going children who are in their teens or adolescence age
will make them more vulnerable.
5. Freedom denotes that how children become frustrated, irritated by continuous reprimanding.
Watching television for long hours
Sleeping till late in the morning
Doing / using cosmetics / make up
Tying out stylish hair styles
• The speaker is a perfectionist and a nagging mother.
• She wants her child to learn social etiquette and present
herself in a socially acceptable manner.
• Observing on the type of instructions she is giving to
Amanda.
• (Amanda is constantly asked not to eat chocolate, to always
sit upright, to do her homework, to tidy her room and many
other things.)
• Because of the speaker’s nagging , the protagonist wants to
stay in peace by going to a deserted tower.

  • 4. Children often feel that their parents control them by restricting them not to do few things. Why do you feel so?
  • 5. Extract no 1 – this is the starting of the poem when mother of Amanda is introduced and she is warning her not to bite her nails and hunch her shoulers because she is concerned about her body and physique. Where as Amanda is in her own world and daydreaming about her fantasies.
  • 6. Amanda shows various mood swings to her mother because she was constantly nagging. These emojis totally represent the state of Amanda being a teenager girl.
  • 7. This checklist will enable all of you to relate to the current scenario of Amanda where she is getting reprimanded by her mother.   • 10. Children often feel that their parents control them by restricting them not to do few things. Why do they feel so? This poem has a tone and a rhyme scheme which lends a beautiful theme to the poem.
  • 11. Here Amanda can be seen as thinking that she should go to some nearest tower where no one can disturb her and she can live peacefully.
  • 12. 1. The central idea or theme of the poem Amanda is that the parents who do not understand the nature of their children. 2. They keep giving commands to their children. They want them (their children) adopt the norms of society. 3. This has adverse impact on the upbringing of the children. 4. Nagging continuously behind school going children who are in their teens or adolescence age will make them more vulnerable. 5. Freedom denotes that how children become frustrated, irritated by continuous reprimanding.

Watching television for long hours Sleeping till late in the morning Doing / using cosmetics / make up Tying out stylish hair styles • The speaker is a perfectionist and a nagging mother. • She wants her child to learn social etiquette and present herself in a socially acceptable manner. • Observing on the type of instructions she is giving to Amanda. • (Amanda is constantly asked not to eat chocolate, to always sit upright, to do her homework, to tidy her room and many other things.) • Because of the speaker’s nagging , the protagonist wants to stay in peace by going to a deserted tower. Something about the speaker – Amanda’s mother
