Syllabus

Classical conditioning theory
Pavlov conducted an experiment conditioning a dog to salivate in response to a stimulus other than food. He would ring a bell each time the dog was presented with meat, initially causing the dog to salivate only at the sight of meat. Over repeated trials of pairing the bell with the meat, the dog learned to salivate upon hearing the bell alone. This demonstrated that behaviors can become conditioned responses associated with stimuli unrelated to the natural stimulus. Conditioning is the process of strengthening an association between a conditioned stimulus and response through consistent pairing in learning.

Kohler Insightful learning theory
Gestalt psychology began in Germany in the early 20th century and focused on the idea of "learning by insight". Key founders included Wertheimer, Kohler, and Koffka. Kohler conducted experiments with chimpanzees that demonstrated insight learning. In one experiment, a chimpanzee used boxes to reach a banana hung out of reach, and in another used sticks of different lengths combined to reach a banana outside its cage. The experiments showed that learning could occur through sudden insights into solving problems rather than just trial and error. Teachers should present material in a way that allows students to gain insights into relationships and concepts as a whole rather than focusing only on separate parts.
Ravens progressive matrices test
This document provides information about Raven's Progressive Matrices, a nonverbal group test used to measure abstract reasoning and fluid intelligence. It consists of a series of visual patterns with one part missing, and requires the test-taker to determine the missing element of the pattern. The test gets progressively harder as it continues. It was originally developed by John C. Raven in 1936 and is currently published by Pearson PLC. There are three versions for different ability levels: Standard, Colored, and Advanced.

- The document describes an experiment conducted by E.L. Thorndike to understand animal learning and behavior. In the experiment, a cat was confined to a box with food outside to understand how it would learn to escape through trial and error to access the food.
- Thorndike observed that the cat persistently tried random movements to exit the box until it eventually learned the proper way to open the door by eliminating incorrect responses and fixing the right response through repeated practice.
