Suffixes are word parts added to the end of base words that change their meaning. The document discusses noun-forming suffixes like -er, -ar, and -or, which when added to a base verb form a noun referring to someone or something that performs that action. Examples are provided like preach + -er = preacher, operate + -or = operator, and register + -ar = registrar. The last letter of some base words may be changed or deleted before adding -ar or -or to form new words.
