Assertion is a confident statement of belief that cannot necessarily be proven true. There are four types of assertion: basic, emphatic, escalating, and language assertion. A basic assertion is a straightforward statement of opinion or feeling. An emphatic assertion recognizes another's perspective while supporting their view. Escalating assertion occurs when someone insists on their position. Language assertion uses "I" to constructively express negative feelings like annoyance. Assertions are declarations presented as true without caveats like "I think."
