Discuss how credible the source is using the CRAAP
evaluation model. Detail as many of the 5 components
as possible:
1. Currency: How up-to-date is the resource? Why
is the date of publication important?
2. Relevance: How significant is the information in
the resource to the topic? Is there a direct
coalition to the subject matter? Is the source a
primary or secondary source? What makes the
source appropriate for an academic paper?
3. Authority: What makes the source credible?
What is the publishing body? What are the
authors' credentials? Provided info on both.
4. Accuracy: Was the source peer-reviewed (how
do you know?)? Were sources cited in the work?
What makes the source reliable?
5. Purpose: Why was this source created? What is
its original intent (inform? persuade? entertain?).
Did you notice any particular agenda or bias in
the source?

Module 4 - SLP
DISTRIBUTIVE JUSTICE
The goal of the Session Long Project is to identify and evaluate the ethical principles used in resolving ethical dilemmas, and to apply the principles to specific ethical issues that may have professional, sociological, economic, legal or political implications.
Often times a patient needs a lot of resources prior to being discharged from the hospital. Some organizations use discharge planners or case managers to aid in acquiring these resources. The topic of this SLP is about Jenna, a young woman who could not be discharged home until the issue of resources to care for her was resolved. This story demonstrates that resource allocation decision making is inherently complex, a process that is dynamic, multidimensional, and iterative. After reading the article, "The relational nature of case manager resource allocation decision making: An illustrated case" by Fraser, Estabrooks, and Strang and doing additional research, please respond to the questions listed below:
1. Provide a brief summary of Jenna's case. What was her medical condition? What was her prognosis? Why was it important for her to go home? Did she get to go home? If so, how did that impact her recovery?
2. What were the resources that Jenna needed to go home? What barriers did her case manager encounter in acquiring these resources?
3. Discuss the theory of relational ethics as it applies to this case. What is it? How does it impact the allocation of resources? Think about your own discipline of study, how does this theory apply to acquiring scare resources? Provide an example.
4. Based on what you have read about this case and resource allocation, do you agree with the statement "that resource allocation decision making is inherently complex, a process that is dynamic, multidimensional, and iterative"? Why or why not? What are your views on the fairness of the process? Was it done in a fair manner in this case? Did Jenna get preferential treatment because of her case manager? If there was no one advocating for her, what do you think the outcome would have been?
SLP Assignment Expectations
1. You will be expected to provide a scholarly basis for your response.
2. Your opinions must be justified with evidence from the literature.
3. References should be cited properly in the text of your essay (either in parentheses or as footnotes), as well as at the end.
4. Several (3-5) scholarly references should be cited for this assignment.
5. Please limit your response to 3 pages maximum, not including title and refer.
Create and submit a rough draft of your research paper. Be sure to.docxvanesaburnand
Create and submit a rough draft of your research paper. Be sure to properly format your paper and include citations, using APA formatting guidelines.
As you are exploring different ideas for your paper, note the research paper will require you to submit 8-10 double-spaced not including the reference and title page, typed pages regarding a topic identified in the textbook or another topic relative to this course.
It is important that you follow APA formatting guidelines and site the references throughout the paper and at the end of the paper.
Turnitin is used to assess the originality of your work--you want to have less than 15% originality.
Written communication is an essential tool for any professional. Writing well is the result of practice followed by feedback and the use of relevant and appropriate sources. Therefore, the quality of writing is graded as part of this assignment. It is easy for students to plagiarize – cut and paste right into a text document.
This paper should be 7 pages, including title page and references. Number all pages and use American Psychological Association (APA) format, 12-point font, double-spacing, paragraph indention, section headings, and submit in MS-Word format.
At least ten sources are required; with at least eight of those sources from current (2013-2017), reputable, peer-reviewed journals. The other sources may include academic and professional periodicals, government publications (to include CD ROM resources), magazines, and newspaper articles. All work submitted must be the original work of the student(s) and will be checked for originality using online software (Turnitin.com) if requested by your instructor. Plagiarism will result in a failing grade for the project, and possibly for the course.
This is expected to be a scholarly project. Grades will be based on scholarship, application of course material, coherence, reference quality, format, and grammatical correctness. Your work should look business-like and professional. Written assignments displaying disproportionately poor grammar, or a poor quality of written communication skills will be assigned a grade that is at least one letter grade lower than might otherwise have been assigned.

Reading Response
By R.C. Lewontin, Confusions about Human Races,Published, Jun 07, 2006, http://raceandgenomics.ssrc.org/Lewontin/
The author used the prose form of writing, in which the article has paragraphs only, but no sections. While there is a flow of ideas, this essay is not easy to read because of the extensive writing, which makes the reader feel overloaded with information. In addition to that, the document does not have any chronology of events, and the author does not state how he intends to write his ideas.
The central claim of this article is the fact that many people confuse human races. He holds that “race” is a biological aspect of variations in the human species, but the world takes it for a social construct of classifying people.
Lewontin holds that “As a biological construct rather than a social one, people cease to see “race” as a significant reality that characterizes the species of humans.”
Keywords – race, genetics, human, biological, and variations
New Vocabulary: Australian Aborigines, Negritos, Inuit, Tay-Sachs disease, Ashkenazi Jew.
Summary: Lewontin’s Confusions about Human Races is a reminder to the people about the concept of human race. Widely touted as a social construct, “race” is a biological concept that outlines the realities that characterize the human species. Lewontin argues that researchers and scholars produce many objective natural divisions confirming that racial categories are representations of genetic differences and not social or historical factors. He uses Leroi Armand Marie’s essay in the Op-Ed section of The New York Times - March 14, 2005, as evidence for his argument. Lewontin adds that Leroi’s work points out the confusion about the factors of racial categorization as well as the recent erroneous deductions about the relevance of such identifications of the race for medical practice.
The author holds the four facts about the variation of humans upon which the world seems to agree are the ultimate evidence for the understanding of race as a biological concept. First, the species of human have immense variations of genetics from one individual to another. Second, the largest chunk of human variation (nearly 85 percent) is a representation of people within local linguistic or national populations. Examples include the French, Mexican, and Japanese. Third, some genetic traits such as skin color, the form of hair, shape of the nose, and some blood proteins like the Rhesus, vary together such that people with dark skin color are also likely to have dark, curled hair, broad noses, and a high likelihood of Rh blood type. Fourth, the genetic differences break down due to rampant migration and intergroup mating; although, it existed in the past, it is now widespread at a high rate.
Questions: Despite being informative, this article poses a few questions in a reader’s mind. What is the solution to the confusion about race? Does it mean that race is only biological and has no relationship to the s ...

Mr. Beridon received your requests for information and returned data which you have compiled in an Microsoft® Excel® spreadsheet (see document template). He also said, "We grow sod and trees at Jeemp Farms. We sell the sod mainly to home builders in the area, although we sell to some individuals who are purchasing square footages to re-sod their yard. Many home builders will purchase to sod an entire subdivision. They then may come back to us to purchase trees for the yards. It really is a package deal. For builders like that, we are a one-stop-shop. In most cases, however, we sell the trees to orchards and some individuals. The purchaser is responsible for all shipping costs related to their product."
"Our production process is different for each product. For sod, we plant the seed, irrigate, cut, and roll the sod and then transport it. For the trees, we plant the root stock, graft the tree, water until a particular maturity and then dig it up and sell it. We inspect the plants as needed to make sure we are producing a quality product that is disease-free."
"We have delayed purchasing some machinery that reduces time for the planting of the trees because it is a large up-front cost and we don't want to have a huge outlay of cash if our profits keep going down."
"The grass does not require as much irrigation as the trees, as it is at a lower elevation than the tree acres and is closer to the creek; it gets a lot of the run off."
"Historically, we have always been able to sell everything we produce. Hopefully, that will continue since Houston is expanding rapidly."

The authors, researchers at the Rand Corporation and Brown University, use data from the National Longitudinal Surveys of Young Women and Young Men to test their hypothesis that nonfamily living by young adults alters their attitudes, values, plans, and expectations, moving them away from their belief in traditional sex roles. They find their hypothesis strongly supported in young females, while the effects were fewer in studies of young males. Increasing the time away from parents before marrying increased individualism, self-sufficiency, and changes in attitudes about families. How has your learning from this experience influenced what you will do going forward through your doctoral study process? Be sure to provide supportive examples.
One influence is ensuring the data is available for the doctoral study. The best way to achieve this is by compiling as much documentation in the form of annotated biography and exploring the Library resources at Walden.
What areas of weaknesses can you build upon going forward into your Doctoral Study? Be sure to provide supportive examples.
The weak link in this study is the broad population, and it needs reducing to gain the best sampling of interviews. The best example to overcome the weakness is learning the process and looking at the specific business problem within the business (Taylor, 2013).
What opportunities have you identified for promoting positive social change based on your increased understanding? Explain.
Positive social change is an opportunity within itself because when business thrives in a positive direction than the organization, the community, the employees and the leadership better interact with society. Tsaprailas (2015) indicates that managers are faced with various viewpoints, driving forces, and conflict in personalities with a workforce of up to five generations working side by side.
What further questions do you still have about the doctoral research process?
Qualitative versus Quantitative are very similar, and I have yet to decide which is better. The study in the works is better suited for qualitative research although there are significant research opportunities from a quantitative perspective. Therefore, a mixed method may be the final determination

My research study seeks to investigate the types of support leaders can provide Gen Z in the workplace to help them grow in their careers, as well as for the realization of organizational goals. Therefore, the participants of the study will comprise of Gen Z employees and organizational leaders, mostly managers. The participants will be selected using a convenience sample that will include Gen Z in my workplace, whose help I will use to recruit their friends who are also Gen Z in various workplaces. According to Dudovskiy (2022), convenience sampling is a non-probabilistic method that involves getting participants from wherever is convenient, and wherever one can find them. At the same time, convenience sampling has no inclusion criteria and is used for issues about perceptions. Therefore, convenience sampling will be an appropriate sampling method for this study because it involves investigating the perceptions of particular groups about an issue affecting them.
The confidentiality and anonymity of participants is a critical issue to pay attention to when gathering data. Adhering to these tenets informs the ethical side of research. Anonymity is mostly associated with qualitative studies and involves collecting data without identifying or personal information of the participants (Coffelt, 2017). Whereas anonymity is important in any research study, it will be more critical for my researc ...

As I moved to Texas I was able to see how families are everything. I was involved in all 3 of my children's learning and afterschool activities as a cares volunteer, substitute teacher, coach or team mom. Being able to see what the teachers are all about helped me to understand as a parent what I needed to do to help my children at home. Now that I am proceeding in the teaching field I learned so many techniques and values from other teachers and coaches.

Assignment PurposeThe first part of this assignment will assist.docxmckellarhastings
Assignment Purpose:
The first part of this assignment will assist you in identifying a topic which you will work with for subsequent activities in the course. The second part of the assignment helps you articulate what constitutes plagiarism.
Part 1:
In this course you will be using a variety of resources and research tools. This activity will guide you in formulating a topic to use for later assignments in this course.
1. What is something you are curious about? What is something you see out in the world that you want to know more about? Perhaps think of health, business, or socio-cultural issues. Write it here:
Ans: availability and affordability of insulin
_______________________________________________________________________
(Need help selecting a topic? Review the Research Topic Starting Points for EN 104, EN 106, EN 111, and EN 116 guide from the Herzing University Library. Browse some of the resources linked there for generating topic ideas. http://herzing.libguides.com/research_topic_starting_points)
2. Create a Mind Map for your topic in the Credo Reference Database available through the Herzing University Library. You can access the link to that database and view a brief tutorial in the Research Topics Starting Points guide at http://herzing.libguides.com/research_topic_starting_points If you need assistance using this tool, contact the Herzing University Librarians using the contact information in that guide. You might need to play around with how you word your topic.
Did the Mind Map help you narrow your topic? Describe your experience with the Mind Map feature and indicate your narrowed topic:
Ans: Mind map tool was unable to search something about my topic the availability and affordability of insulin. So, in this case I will just search for insulin and another topic that is closer to the socio-economic issues on insulin. I was going to search for availability and affordability of insulin for sub-Saharan Africa. So, this will change my direction in searching in a different data set.
3. Write at least three research questions related to your topic and circle or somehow indicate the one you are most interested in answering:
Ans: Wondering why the price of insulin in the united states was so high of recent compared with some other countries?
In sub-Saharan Africa, how is insulin available and affordable for people with diabetics over there?
who bears the economic burden of diabetics in the forty-six member states of the WHO African place and what are some ways diabetics can be higher averted and handled in the place?
4. Create a thesis statement for your research project. Be sure it meets the characteristics of a “strong” thesis statement as described in the reading for this unit.
Characteristics of a Strong Thesis Statement
· Answers the research question and is adequate for the assignment.
· Takes a position – doesn’t just state facts.
· It is specific and provable.
· It passes the “so what.

Unit 3: Synthesis Project
You will be creating an AP Exam Synthesis Question. The Synthesis Question gives you several sources and asks you to combine (synthesize) them with your own thoughts to create a cohesive essay. This is the same goal as a research paper. Your question (prompt) and sources should be formatted, labeled, and presented as on the AP Lang Exam. This will be modeled after the ones in the sample packets you were given.
Source Requirements:
· 8 sources
· No sources older than 10 years
· At least two sources published within the last two years (2020, 2021, 2022)
· Provide 1-2 sources that are images (political cartoons, graphs, charts, etc.)
· Sources should demonstrate a range of positions and approaches to the topic. Your goal is to figure out what 2-3 of the main “sides” are in the debate around the issue and represent those sides fairly.
Research Resources:
· Use this
link to access academic databases through CPS and Lane.
Example topics:
· Security vs Privacy: Personal Rights
· Standardized Education Movement
· Parenting Styles of the 21st Century
· Why Movements Matter: Voices of the People
· Technology’s Impact on American Families
Project Requirements:
Include, neatly formatted in one document
· Prompt page with directions, introduction, and assignment
· 6 sources
·
MLA citation of each source
· 3 potential thesis statements for this essay
a. One that is open
b. One that is closed
c. One that is a counter argument thesis.
· Choose one thesis statement, and create an outline of a response to ensure that others can synthesize these sources.
The most effective Synthesis Prompts give the test-takers a wide variety of sources to consider. These sources are of various types, lengths, and opinions. This diversity allows each test-taker to choose their own individual approach to the assignment while providing them with the tools to adequately synthesize into their paper.
You are going to choose EIGHT sources specific to your assigned topic. This will ensure that your group will be providing sources that show the complexity of the issue.
Therefore, when choosing your sources, keep several guidelines in mind:
1. Choose sources that cover a variety of viewpoints on your assigned topic, making sure to keep the sides evenly represented.
2. Choose sources from a wide variety of locations and formats. Use the list below as guidance; it is certainly not all-inclusive. Requirements are in CAPITAL letters. Beyond those required types, you may choose the rest of your sources at your discretion.

Common source evaluation tools, such as PATS and CRAAP, help students assess sources of information based on considerations specific to the source itself, such as purpose, authority, timeliness/currency, scope/relevance, and accuracy. What these tools do not consider is the source’s appropriateness within different rhetorical situations. By teaching students to consider a source’s potential appropriateness within different rhetorical contexts (in an opinion paper vs. a research paper, or as a primary vs. a secondary source) we provide students a framework for more meaningful source evaluation and a means by which to articulate how, why, and when sources are used.

Using autoethnography in a qualitative research,
consider a resident of Sedgwick County, Colorado community to be the researcher of this study? Over the past 16 years, only two building permits for new housing construction have been issued in Sedgwick County, Colorado. This is consistent with the depopulation (particularly of younger persons) and economic diminution that is attributed to a declining rainfall since the 1970s. These are quantitative details. It is unclear how much of the depopulation was due to perceived opportunities elsewhere, to copycat or fad behavior, and to perceived change in local economic opportunity.
This is the only situation where the researcher can offer his/her own perspective as data for the study. How does the researcher guard against the limitations of his/her existing bias? How does he/she make sure that the data collected will be informative to a larger audience? [250 words, 2 references, 2 Intext Citations, Original Writings only]

Using Earned Value to Determine Status
Jennifer turned in her status report for the newly approved mailing activities. She feels that her pieces are on track with nothing for you to worry about. She reports the following information for the critical path tasks:
You review her status report and determine that Jennifer does not have a solid grasp of her status. Ben was unable to provide you with anything more than, “Things are moving along just fine.”
Using earned value measurements along with the other information and metrics available, determine the true status of Jennifer’s portion of the project.
Prepare an updated status report (1 page) for Jennifer and share the measurements and your rationale in your determination of the status for the project.
Create a 2–3 slide presentation explaining the benefits of using EVM.
Be sure to document some instructions (1-page document) for Jennifer and Ben for determining the project status for their next project update to you.
Also, provide materials that would be used to train Jennifer and Ben on the benefits and application of earned value.
The materials should include some guidelines for Jennifer and Ben to help them create and then interpret the metrics.
Please refer to the following multimedia course material(s):

Post an assessment of your understanding of the research process. Your assessment should include the following:
· How has your learning from this experience influenced what you will do going forward through your doctoral study process? Be sure to provide supportive examples.
· What areas of weaknesses can you build upon going forward into your Doctoral Study? Be sure to provide supportive examples.
· What opportunities have you identified for promoting positive social change based on your increased understanding? Explain.
· What further questions do you still have about the doctoral research process?
Be sure to support your work with a minimum of two specific citations from this week’s Learning Resources and at least one additional scholarly source.

Research Paper Track – Research Methods
Top of Form

Using autoethnography in a qualitative research,consider a resid.docxgidmanmary

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

Part 2: Application
Discuss how credible the source is using the CRAAP
evaluation model. Detail as many of the 5 components
as possible:
1. Currency: How up-to-date is the resource? Why
is the date of publication important?
4. 2. Relevance: How significant is the information in
the resource to the topic? Is there a direct
coalition to the subject matter? Is the source a
primary or secondary source? What makes the
source appropriate for an academic paper?
3. Authority: What makes the source credible?
What is the publishing body? What are the
authors' credentials? Provided info on both.
4. Accuracy: Was the source peer-reviewed (how
do you know?)? Were sources cited in the work?
What makes the source reliable?
5. Purpose: Why was this source created? What is
its original intent (inform? persuade? entertain?).
Did you notice any particular agenda or bias in
the source?
Please use specific examples and cite your sources in
APA format. Sometimes, we have to do extra research
on the authors or publishing bodies. Those sources
should be cited as well.
Follow-Up Post Instructions
Respond to at least two peers or one peer and the
instructor. Here, we have an opportunity to compare
research notes with our fellow peers. Help your peers
by composing a signal phrase based on the source’s
credentials.
Example
Address the following:
5. What weaknesses do you see, if any, in the
source?
If you were to discredit this source is some way,
what would be the best approach?
The goal here is not to attack the source, but to test it.
When we begin preparing rebuttals later this term,
knowing potential points of weakness and predicting
what our opposition may question is key. Remember,
the goal here is to find multiple perspectives, but those
perspectives should be both professional and
respectful. Ask questions to keep the conversation
going.
Note: If you see that someone has already received
feedback from two peers, please choose to help a peer
who has yet to obtain feedback.

Hello, Class, and welcome to Week 4!
This week we look at the important topic of
7. evaluating sources. I think you will find the
“CRAAP” model helpful; on a daily basis we read,
ingest, interpret, discard, or accept copious
amounts of information through written and visual
texts, and discerning the credibility of them is a
useful skill.
Sparks and Rapp (2011), doctorate holders in
Learning Sciences, assert, “Knowledge about an
individual source (e.g., a respected public figure
vs. an accused wrongdoer) could influence
whether readers rely on or disregard the
propositions provided by that source.” We may
already have preconceived ideas about the
credibility of, for example, a newspaper or
website; when doing research, the necessity of
consciously and carefully evaluating writers and
their sources is crucial.
All too often, in the media today, we see evidence
of bias. This should be seen as a red flag when
evaluating sources! Bias is not always easily
discernible, however, and reading with a skeptical
eye goes a long way towards uncovering it.
Please pay special attention to the instructions for
locating peer-reviewed sources.
Please begin posting on Monday, July 29, for
credit this week. Try and include all the
components of a signal phrase in your peer
response suggestions. (Your scholarly outside
source for the initial post should be from among
the list provided, or contact me individually.) I
look forward to reading your discussions of source
credibility!

David M. Shaw wrote the article The
Consequences of Vagueness in Consent to
Organ Donation. He holds an MA in English lit.,
a Ph.D. in philosophy, and a Master of Medical
Law. This article was written to inform and
educate professionals what the potential
barriers are to obtaining consent for organ
donation from the deceased’s’ families.
This article was published by Wiley-Blackwell in
2017 and revised in 2019 in the journal
Bioethics which is peer-reviewed. It states it is
peer-reviewed in the journal subset. The article
is a secondary source which references
numerous scholarly and peer-reviewed sources
to support the claim that lack of concrete
information surrounding the process of organ
9. donation is a major reason families do not
consent. All the sources referenced are
appropriate to the subject as they give support
to facts contained in the article which support
the claim.
Some sources date back to 2006 which is
outside the 5-year rule of thumb for source
material. This could be viewed as a weakness
and give the basis for rebuttal by locating newer
source information with up to date statistical
data that refutes the older sources. Organ
donation is an evolving subject so using newer
sources would have given the claim more
strength. Sources “over 5 years is usually
considered outdated in the general education
and healthcare fields” (Chamberlain University,
2019).

The article I chose to evaluate using the CRAAP
evaluation model is, The Consequences of
Vagueness in Consent to Organ Donation. This
article was informative. It discusses how potential
donors and families are not fully informed of all the
details that surface when immediate decisions need
to be made at the time of organ donation. This is a
complicated process and there are many decisions
to be made that many are not aware of. It
emphasizes lack of communication with the donor’s
family. Even if one is registered to be a donor, there
can still be many conflicts. It suggests that the
validity of the consent can be questionable, as well
as what the donor would consent to during the organ
donation process. This can be very distressing to the
potential donor’s family. It can lead to refusal of
consent which can also cause harm to the potential
recipients and their families. The article does
suggest need for more informed consent and
education. It also offers some strategies to reduce
the vagueness. The information thoroughly covered
the topic.
As the article is information not obtained firsthand, it
is a secondary source. The article was obtained
from Bioethics, which “is a monthly peer-reviewed
11. academic journal published by Wiley-Blackwell”
(Wikipedia). Peer review was also noted in the
Journal Subset. Bioethics has been publishing for
over 30 years. (Wikipedia) This article was published
July 2017. There is a possibility there has been
changes in the past two years to improve the
consent process, but I did not research for any
updated information.
The author, David M. Shaw, has a PhD in philosophy
and has a Master of Medical Law. He has worked at
the Institute for Bioethics since 2012 and is affiliated
with the Department of Health, Ethics and Society.
Dr. Shaw’s primary interest is in organ donation and
research ethics. (Shaw, 2017) Sources in this article
are cited. With the above information on the author
and journal, I feel this is a credible source.

12. Hello Kimberly,
In Shaw (2017) , Dr of Philosophy with Masters
in Medical Law, Enquire, The consequences of
vagueness in consent to organ donation, I feel
that the article should have included the origin of
this obtained research information and included
actual donnor accounts to add to the credibility
and validity of the article; being a doctor of
philosophy with a masters in medical law, I
would think Mr. Shaw should have anticipated
this type of critique and incorporated those
points in his article.
Thanks,

Hello Professor & classmates,
I will be evaluating an article on The Cost of Cancer,
there is a lot of talk on cancer these days; in the
news, in magazines and in advertisements. It is
important to get accurate information out to the
general public and establish credibility for us to trust
the health care system.
This resource was not up to date, as it was written
back in October of 2014, that’s 5 years of new
information that is not included. The date of the
publication is important because you want to retrieve
13. the most up to date information possible (Seyler &
Brizee, 2018, pg. 275), especially if you are doing a
research paper. In my opinion the information found
in the resource, which is on 5 myths about cancer,
does not support the topic. I thought I would be
reading about the high cost of cancer from the topic,
so there is no coalition to the subject matter. This
article goes into specific myths on cancer and
misconceptions regarding cancer treatment.
I believe the source is primary, because it is original
research from the authors. The source is appropriate
for an academic paper because it is from a credible
source, it is peer-reviewed and peer reviewed
journals are always scholarly in nature (Nelson,
2014); and it identifies the authors responsible for
the information provided (Seyler & Brizee, 2018, pg.
281). The publishing body is The People to People
Health Foundation, Inc., Project HOPE. One author,
Dana P Goldman, is the Leonard D. Schaeffer Chair
and director of the Schaeffer Center for Health
Policy and Economics, University of Southern
California, in Los Angeles. The other author, Tomas
Philipson, is the Daniel Levin Professor of Public
Policy Economics and Law at the University of
Chicago, in Illinois. The source was peer reviewed,
and I ascertained this by filtering for it in the library. I
did not see any sources cited in this article to note,
so I can’t be sure how the authors obtained the
information or the accuracy of the information itself.
This source was created to discredit certain myths
about cancer and to inform the general public about
those myths. I was actually saddened to read a
couple of those myths, because I was led to believe
otherwise from what I have heard on the news and
14. other publications. Then again, this article is 5 years
old, so there may not be as much credibility to some
of those myths anymore; at least I would hope so. I
was unable to find and bias in this article, the
authors just stated the facts mostly, and gave stats
to back up the arguments.

Hello Cindy,
thanks for your discussion post.
Excellent comment/note about the currency of
the data. Technically, sources within a five-
year range are considered credible for
academic writing; however, as you note,
sometimes one must take into account the
topic and the rapidness of change with which
it might be affected. Regarding your
comment about sources, the article/authors
do use numerous notes within it, the origins
or subjects of which are included at the end of
the paper. When considering an article, as
you state, it is important to also consider the
credibility of the sources used in it.
I like that you provide a paragraph about the
credentials and expertise of the writers.
Sometimes that bit of extra research can help
determine these categories specifically.
I do believe that your identification of author
purpose is correct; while many articles are
informative, they also have a certain stance
or specific intent to persuade the reader of
that particular stance. Here, the aim appears
to be to "debunk a number of the most
common misconceptions about cancer
16. treatment, such as claims that the war on
cancer has been a failure and that treatment
costs are unsustainable" (Goldman &
Philipson, 2014).
APA: Did you click on the cite button for
article? It is below.
(Note that volume numbers are italicized, and
the article is associated with a doi.)
For the Nelson reference, there is no comma
after the author first initial, and there should
be period after the year. The title would not be
capitalized.

For the purpose of the discussion this week, I have
decided to analyze the article “Fight or Flight… or
Fix: Employers must work with employees to
address workplace stress” by Jane Langille using
the CRAAP method.
Currency: According to Seyler & Brizee, an article is
considered outdated if the information is over five
years old (2018). The date of publication is important
simply because new research and studies are being
conducted every day. Nearly as soon as the
information is published, it can be considered out of
date. The article in question was published in the
winter of 2017 in the Canadian Journal of Medical
Laboratory Science (Langille, 2017). This publication
date falls well within the five year mark.
Relevance: The information in this article is
significantly relevant to the topic. The article includes
several quotations from a manager at the
Anatomical Pathology Lab in Ontario, Canada
(Langille, 2017). The name of the lab manager is
18. Louis Litsas (Langille, 2017). He states his
philosophy that by having a daily huddle and
connecting to his staff on a more personal level
helps to decrease the rate of burnout in his facility
(Langille, 2017). He states that the daily huddle is a
forum for individuals to bring up issues or stresses
that they are experiencing in the workplace, and
then everyone can input their ideas about how to
solve these issues (Langille, 2017). This information
provided by Litsas is a secondary source. The
author also incorporates statistics from 2016 that
was collected by the journal that the article was
published in regarding workplace stress. The survey
found that, “a surprising 59% (17/29) of participants
reported that they have experienced a high level of
stress at work at least once more or daily, and 76%
(22/29) felt burned out at least weekly, if not daily,
due to work stressors” (Langille, 2019. One issue is,
however, that the information seems to be very
specific only to mangers in charge in a laboratory
setting.
Authority: The author for this article utilized source
such as the Mayo Clinic and the World Health
Organization for some of its source material
(Langille, 2017). These are both highly though of
organizations that are world renowned. The author
references a Dr. David Posen who was interviewed
on a podcast for the journal in which the article was
published. The article does not establish much
information on why Posen is considered an expert
on this subject. She cites Dr. Posen as being an
expert on workplace stress. The publishing body for
this article is the Canadian Journal of Medical
Laboratory Science that is owned by the Canadian
Society for Medical Laboratory Science. There is not
19. much available information on the credentials of the
author. The article does not list any degrees that
Langille holds. The only information provided states
that she is a health and medical writer for the
CJMLS. I was unable to find any further information

Type your introduction here and remove the instructions.. The
introduction should begin with an attention grabber and end
with your working thesis statement. Remember to employ an
objective tone by applying only 3rd person point of view (no
1st: I, me, my, we, our, us, mine) or 2nd: you, your person point
of view).
Context
Begin to type the body of your paper here. Use as many
paragraphs as needed to cover the content appropriately. As
noted in the Lecture’s outline, the context section should
include potential qualifiers, and definitions. It is essentially
background information that provides your audience with the
context needed to understand your claim.
1st Con-Point
Begin with a topic sentence written in your own words that
presents your grounds. Next, apply the evidence/warrant.
Signal phrases are highly recommended to introduce new
sources (ex: According to Dr. John Smith, head physician at the
Mayo Clinic…). Cite your sources in APA format via
parenthetical citations. Follow through with a few sentences
examining the evidence and connecting it back to your main
point. Strive for a minimum of 5 developed sentences in a
college level paragraph. Remember to refer back to the outline
in our Week 2 Lesson if you need to review the structure of the
paper.
Repeat this process for your 2nd and 3rd Con-Points, dedicating
a paragraph to each.
22. Conclusion
Papers should end with a conclusion. Unpack your thesis (do
not copy/paste it) and apply a concluding technique. It should
be concise and contain no new detail. No matter how much
space remains on the page, the references always start on a
separate page.

In this commentary we debunk a
number of the most common
misconceptions about cancer
treatment, such as claims that the
war on cancer has been a failure
and that treatment costs are
unsustainable. In addition, there
is good evidence that patients
value these treatments more
highly than traditional cost-
effectiveness analysis would
indicate. We argue that coverage
policies placing undue burden on
patients are socially wasteful and
will likely discourage further
innovation.
