The annotated bibliography is an assignment to be completed in preparation for Essay 3 - the research paper.
Once you have completed your research proposal and settled on a topic for your research paper, it's time to begin conducting research for your paper.
The annotated bibliography helps you keep track of the material you find. It will also allow your instructor to gauge your progress, assess if your sources are appropriate, and determine if you have a basic understanding of MLA documentation.
For this assignment, you will need to submit information about two (2) of your sources - but it is recommended that, for your own purposes, you keep a record for each source you encounter.
At the top of your page, after your MLA heading, please post your topic and focusing question (refer to Unit 3 content notes as needed). Then proceed with the following information for each entry (2 total):
a bibliographic entry for the source according to MLA format
a brief note about how you located the source: did you find this source in person at the library, electronically, or otherwise? what terms did you use to locate the source, etc.
information about the source's author: who is the author? how is the author credible? You may need to do additional research on the author or organization responsible for the source to find out more about him/her/them/it, their credentials, etc. [This information will prove helpful because in your research paper's text, when introducing a source, it is good form to use a signal phrase that introduces the author to add credibility to your argument (as in, "According to John Doe, who is a professor at Harvard University, ...)]
a brief summary of what the source says (main ideas)
a reflection: how do you think you will use this source? How will this source help you support your own argument? How did it shape your own opinion, if at all? What are the source's strengths and weaknesses?
Here is a sample entry:

My prior knowledge about supporting details have changed after viewing the video. I now know a outline is made up of a main idea followed by a numbered list of the key supporting details. I have a better understanding of supporting details now. I do believe this chapter lesson was beneficial in increasing my knowledge because this video broke it down for better understanding. It gave examples to go by. This video helped me more.
Exploration of one or more characteristic(s) of an author's style and approach
Consider analyzing the author's use of imagery or setting:
Analyzing Setting
“Setting refers to the natural or artificial scenery or environment in which characters in literature live and move. Seeing also includes what in the theater would be called props or properties—the implements employed by the characters in various activities. Such things as the time of day and the consequent amount of light at which an event occurs, the flora and fauna, the sounds described, the smells, and the weather are also part of the setting. Paintbrushes, apples, pitchforks, rafts, six-shooters, watches, automobiles, horses and buggies, and innumerable other items belong to the setting. References to clothing, descriptions of physical appearance, and spatial relationships among the characters are also part of setting.” (Edgar V. Roberts, Writing Themes about Literature)
In order to create an argument about the function of the setting in a particular work, you need to identify the principal settings and to see how they work. Here are some steps you can take:
1) Read the story and mark references to setting. Start with the place and time of the action and then focus upon recurrent details and objects.
2) Think about what the story is about. What happens? What is its point? Is it a story about love, jealousy, gain, or loss? What is the main experience here?
3) Look through your setting notes and see if they fall into any pattern. What are the interesting shifts and contrasts?
4) Determine how the setting relates to either the main point of the story (step 2) or to some part of it. In other words what does the setting have to do with character or action? What are its effects? Whatever you decide here will be your thesis statement.
5) Make an outline, indicating what aspects of setting you will discuss and what you intend to say about them. Discard notes that are not central to your plan (you don’t have to discuss everything). Focus on the four or five key passages in the story that you wish to examine. ...
Essay #1Taking a Position on Food Due by 1159pm on Sunday.docxSALU18
Essay #1:Taking a Position on Food
Due by 11:59pm on Sunday April 23rd
We manipulate the planet and all of its creatures. We create, we consume, we build, and we
destroy, but how often do we consider the processes and people that provide unceasingly for our
unquenchable appetites? How often do we consider the consequences? This essay asks that you
consider the inner (and outer) workings of the US food system and then take a position on a
narrowed down aspect of it.
During this project we might ask ourselves any combination of the following: where does our food
come from, and at what cost? How have our foods been processed, conceived, even constructed, and then shipped and
stored? How do we treat the animals we eat? How should we treat them? How are they killed? How conscious are
we of the world we are taking from every single day? Where do we fit in? What do we have to say?
To accomplish your task, you will be using pairings of articles I provide in order to take part in
an ongoing conversation about food. These readings will require you to look closely at what we
eat and how our consumption shapes the world, in both positive and negative ways.
You will need to first consider our relationship with food and the consequences of our eating
habits, on individuals, societies, and the planet that we share, then narrow down your focus to an
individual and focused topic/idea, which you will then research independently so that you might
enter into a scholarly conversation. The goal of this essay is to either make your own claim about
your subject, or to support an already established claim with rational and logical reasons and
evidence in order to convince your reader to take up the same position that you hold.
This essay need not be a soapbox for any political agenda; instead, we are looking for a balance
in rhetorical strategies. Using ethos, pathos, and logos effectively means respecting all viewpoints
while backing up your claims with reputable sources and logical insights/analysis.
In the wise words of Christopher Hitchens: “That which can be asserted without
evidence, can be dismissed without evidence.”
While I value each and every one of your opinions, scholarly readers are less forgiving. Imagine
your audience to be educated readers who are familiar with the topic and themes we will be
exploring. These readers will expect you to back up your claims, and to use reputable sources.
See the end of this prompt for paper specifics / requirements.
Reading and Research
I am providing you with a group of food-related readings. Some of the readings will be
mandatory, as in I expect everyone to read them and use them in their papers. The others are
paired options that you will choose from. Each reading will be labeled on the Module I introduce
it as either mandatory or optional. They are also listed at the end of this prompt.

Your week one paper asks you to do this..
Week 1: Identify a subject organization. Provide an initial assessment of some organizational problem utilizing relevant OD and change themes. Provide an annotated reference list of at least five peer-reviewed resources that can help you better understand the OD and change themes, and assess the organizational problem.
USE THESE LEVEL ONE HEADINGS AFTER YOU PROVIDE A BRIEF INTRODUCTION THAT INTRODUCES THE PURPOSE OF THE PAPER AND THE SUBTOPICS YOU WILL COVER.
Case Organization
In this section address the questions, what is the organization? what does it do? and who does it do it to/for? (BE SURE where you are providing facts about the organization you provide credible sources to support your claims of fact.)
Initial Assessment
In this section provide an initial assessment of some organizational problems that are evident in your case study organization. Your assessment in other courses have focused on problems related specifically to individuals, group/teams, or organizational levels (that were the focus of the specific course). In this course, you will use your full range of organizational and leadership theory knowledge across all levels and interact between the levels to determine needed interventions and change.
Symptoms
In this subheading answer the question: What are the symptoms of the problems?
Evidence
In this subheading answer the question: What is the evidence that problems actually exist?
Relevant Themes
In this subheading answer the question: What are the relevant OD and change themes that might explain the problems (and not just the symptoms)?
Annotated Reference List
In this section Provide an annotated reference list of at least five peer-reviewed resources that can help you better understand the team’s themes and assess the organizational problem. IMPORTANT – an Annotated Reference List is not like the regular reference list at the end of a paper. An annotated reference list is a list of references that after the reference you provide a brief summary (usually about 150 words) descriptive and evaluative paragraph. The purpose of the annotation is to inform the reader of the relevance, accuracy, and quality of the sources cited.
The reference you select for your annotated reference list are not the references you use for this paper. They are studies you have selected from the library or other credible sources which will be valuable in your future research on the team issues which may be problematic to your case organization.
As always, contact me if you have any questions. Better to understand what is expected in an assignment before you write it than after it has been graded. Feel free to call me to ASK what an assignment is asking.

McClintock-Walsh ENGL 151
Assignment Sheet: Final Paper
Length: 6-8 pages (not including Works Cited List)
Due Date: Rough draft: in our conferences
Final: See syllabus
No late papers will be accepted!
Write a 6-8 page paper (that incorporates research) on any of the works we have read in this class. (If you choose to write about a work you have written about already, the content of this paper must be significantly different from what you have already written.) Although this is a research paper, remember that YOUR ideas are important. I do not want you to turn in a book report or a Wikipedia entry. Rather, you should be developing an insightful reading of one or more works that you support with the text and with outside sources. Remember, we research to fulfill our curiosities, to deepen our knowledge of a subject or author, or to make ourselves more of an expert on the works we are covering. We do NOT research to mimic or regurgitate someone else’s ideas.
Remember it is of the utmost importance that you develop a specific thesis, or argument, that you will be able to prove with research and textual analysis. Remember: a thesis statement should arise from a question you have about the work(s) (i.e., What is the significance of the Perseus and Danae myth in Room? OR What confines characters in Room, “The Hunger Artist,” and/or “The Yellow Wallpaper” ? OR According to Langston Hughes, Gwendolyn Brooks, and/or Anna Deavere Smith, where does racism come from, and how can society overcome it?). Your thesis statement should be an answer to this question (i.e., Donoghue uses allusion to Greek mythology to both illustrate all of the levels of imprisonment Ma and Jack face). You should use the rest of the paper to support your own unique argument with close readings of the text and with research. Think of the thesis statement as your radical declaration; think of the rest of the paper as the evidence that supports your radical declaration. (A strong thesis statement in a research paper will be very narrow and focused. A thesis that seems too narrow is always preferable to a thesis that is too broad.)
Please AVOID PLOT SUMMARY. I have already read these works, so you are writing for an informed audience.
You may choose to write your paper on one work we have discussed this semester, or you may compare/contrast two works. Remember that research should help you become more of an expert on your subject, and that research should be an organic process that helps you fill in gaps in your own knowledge, or deepens your understanding of a work, author, or concept. Let your own questions and curiosities guide you in your research.
I do not like to set an exact number of sources that you must use, but this type of paper will likely require you to consult and use at least three outside sources that you will incorporate in a meaningful way into your paper. You may not use the internet alone for your research; I will be unimpressed by flimsy, general ...

Paragraphing and the Tell, Show, Share Method
Paragraphing is sectioning and organizing your essay into paragraphs. Paragraphs are a visual
way of dividing your essay into sections organized by a unifying idea. Paragraphs help your
reader visually know when you change ideas. Without paragraphs, the reader is overwhelmed by
the sheer amount of words on a page. Paragraphing helps reduce confusion when reading by
focusing on only one point at a time. How you organize a paragraph helps the reader understand
what point you are trying to make in relation to your thesis. Focus and organization are the keys
to a good paragraph.
Focus
Each paragraph needs to focus on one main idea or claim. Your introduction should focus on
introducing your topic and providing a roadmap of what you will be writing about in your body
paragraphs. Your introduction needs to include your thesis statement as well (See the handout on
Creating Thesis Statements for more information about strong thesis statements).
All of your body paragraphs need to focus on one idea that supports your thesis (your claim)
stated in the introduction. For an argument essay, each body paragraph should be a reason that
supports your thesis. For a literary analysis, each body paragraph should be a different aspect of
the poem or literature (symbolism, metaphor, character, setting, voice, tone) that proves the
thesis. For a visual analysis, each body paragraph should be an aspect of the visual (color,
background, foreground, framing, juxtaposition, superimposition) that proves your thesis. See
the handouts Ten Tips for a Visual (or Literary) Analysis for more help with writing those
papers.
Organization
When putting your body paragraphs together, think about how they flow. Is the flow logical?
You might organize chronologically or thematically depending upon your purpose (literary
analysis versus visual analysis). Argument essays should be organized on the strength of your
evidence. Begin with a strong claim, put your weaker claims in the middle, and end with your
strongest evidence. That way your reader finishes your essay with your best argument.
The Tell, Show, Share Method
All body paragraphs include three main parts: the topic sentence, the evidence, and the
explanation or analysis. The Tell, Show, Share method is a mnemonic device to help you
remember the parts of a well-developed paragraph.
Tell: your claim (topic sentence)
Show: your evidence (quotes, examples, statistics, analogies, anecdotes)
Share: your opinion, explanation, or analysis (answer the so what, who cares, why does it
matter questions)
The Tell, Show, Share method reminds you to open with a topic sentence and close with your
own ideas. You shouldn’t have a quote opening or closing a paragraph. Opening with a quote
means that you have forgotten to m.

Submission due at Titanium Assignments by Friday, April 6, 12pm (noon).
Suggested Length: 1 page, single-spaced
Note: This handout is adapted from one by historian and Harvard professor Jill Lepore.
By your project thinking and writing, you can engage and practice making a contribution toward
our course objectives --
This course takes Asian women living in the US as the focus of analyses of identity,
culture, and political economy. We will examine works by and about Asian American
women from multiple disciplines, in order to elucidate how Asian American women
have been represented and treated as the objects of history and culture, as well as
how Asian American women in turn shape these forces. By exploring the areas of
immigration and settlement, social stereotyping, identity construction, family,
community, labor, organized resistance, and cultural production, we will attempt to
answer questions such as: Who are “Asian American women”? What are the
commonalities and differences of racialization, gender, class, sexuality, language and
culture that delineate this category? How do Asian American women negotiate the
complexities of multiple identities and positions of their lived experiences, both in the
United States and transnational spaces?
Requirement 1: What am I going to argue? This is my THESIS.
An argumentative or persuasive piece of writing must begin with a debatable thesis or claim. In other words, the
thesis must be something that people could reasonably have differing opinions on. If your thesis is something that is
generally agreed upon or accepted as fact then there is no reason to try to persuade people.
__ In general, your thesis statement should be 1-2 sentences long and should be found at the end
of your first paragraph (or occasionally your second paragraph).
Requirement 2: A Well-Organized Body
The body of the paper is where you flesh out your thesis and present your evidence. Most people
find it helpful to outline before beginning to write. It is important that you move logically from

Using autoethnography in a qualitative research,
consider a resident of Sedgwick County, Colorado community to be the researcher of this study? Over the past 16 years, only two building permits for new housing construction have been issued in Sedgwick County, Colorado. This is consistent with the depopulation (particularly of younger persons) and economic diminution that is attributed to a declining rainfall since the 1970s. These are quantitative details. It is unclear how much of the depopulation was due to perceived opportunities elsewhere, to copycat or fad behavior, and to perceived change in local economic opportunity.
This is the only situation where the researcher can offer his/her own perspective as data for the study. How does the researcher guard against the limitations of his/her existing bias? How does he/she make sure that the data collected will be informative to a larger audience? [250 words, 2 references, 2 Intext Citations, Original Writings only]

It is important that you move logically from
point to point as you move from paragraph to paragraph.
__ Present each of your paragraphs and its central idea.
This central idea is generally expressed in a topic sentence which is usually the first or second sentence in a
paragraph. Many people find it helpful to string their topic sentences together after completing an essay. This
should produce a coherent paragraph beginning with your thesis statement.
! What sequence of evidence best supports your claims?
! How and where will you engage both with what other scholars have written about your
subject, or broader interpretations about his period in history, or with theories about the
past, or historical forces?
! Are there counter-arguments that you haven’t considered?

This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.
