Indian Point

For Nuclear Power Plant
• Produces 2,000 MW’s or 25% of NewYork City and Westchester
energy.
• Could create an economic blow if shutdown by increasing energy
rates and declining economic activity.
• Option to replace Indian Point would be with more power from
upstate NewYork or Canada which would cause a costly investment
into more infrastructure and alternative generation plants.
• Indian point itself employes 1,200 people and another 200
contractors.
•The plant pays $75 million in property taxes plus additional taxes to
NewYork State.
• Studies estimate that Indian Point contributes $363 million to local
purchases

Against Nuclear Power Plant
• Land contamination from potentially released nuclear minerals could
be more than human life spans
•Accident at Fukushima involved reactors that were build to U.S. design
• 24 miles away from Manhattan making Indian Point a nuclear power
plant with one of the highest surrounding populations in the United
States.
• Spent fuel is kept in on-site pools adding on to the associated risk
with a potential meltdown
• Indian point’s evacuation plan is ﬂawed and only acknowledges a plan
for people living within a 10 mile radius. Americans living within 50
miles of Fukushima were told to evacuate
• Indian Point sucks in 2.5 billion gallons of river water daily to cool its
two reactors which have a high impact on the Hudson River aquatic
life
