Electrical rooms provide safe and secure spaces for the operation and maintenance of electrical equipment. While electrical equipment types and ratings can have significant impacts on electrical room requirements, distributing the electrical power to the rest of the building via wiring, busways, and raceways can also affect electrical room design.
Switchboards, switchgear, transformers, generators, and UPSs require space for installation, maintenance, heat dissipation, and possible future expansion. And the wiring, busways, and raceways that distribute the electrical power must be accounted for—now, and in the future. Documentation and monitoring of electrical system’s equipment and how it connects to the rest of the facility must be accurately maintained.
The design of electrical rooms requires an integrated approach among disciplines. Architects and structural, mechanical, and fire protection engineers should work as a team in designing these rooms. NFPA 70: National Electrical Code (NEC) is the main source for electrical room requirements, but other codes, good practices, and recommendations should be considered. The result will be a room that is safe and secure, and provides for the functional operation and maintenance of the specific electrical equipment located within.
Renewable energy is making its move. Eighteen percent of all electricity in the United States was produced by renewable sources in 2017, including solar, wind and hydroelectric dams. That’s up from 15 percent in 2016.
According to data released by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), by the end of 2017, global renewable generation capacity increased by 167 GW (gigawatts) and reached 2,179 GW worldwide. This represents a yearly growth of around 8.3 percent, the average for seven straight years in a row.

The Ecodesign Directive for energy-related products (ErP Directive) establishes a framework under which manufacturers of energy-using and energy related products (such as windows or water using products like taps) are obliged to reduce the energy consumption and other negative environmental impacts occurring throughout the product life cycle. The directive is the primary mandatory means of reducing the energy use of products in the EU. This is complemented for some products by the Energy Label, whereby products at the point of sale (shop or internet) have to display a label which shows the energy efficiency categorical rating (A to G) and related information.
Consumer appliances have been amongst the earliest regulated products in the EU. At this point most of the energy-using equipment in the home have been included under one or more regulation, having a significant effect on energy use in the home. The course will cover most of these: washing machines, dishwashers, tumble dryers, ovens, cooker hoods, refrigerators and freezers, vacuum cleaners, televisions and simple set top boxes.

This presentation will illustrate how ultra violet (UV) cured powder coating is addressing the challenges to meet sustainability targets, environmental regulations, and carbon neutrality or reduction. UV powder coatings’ defining characteristic is speed; UV curing is virtually instantaneous. The UV powder application process reduces the amount of time and thermal energy required to melt and flow the coating prior to curing. Faster curing reduces time, energy and carbon, and this presentation will document and quantify these important values. Additional benefits such as reduction in plant footprint, increase in throughput, and growing use of UV LEDs will be discussed and quantified. UV powder coatings have traditionally been used to finish MDF and wood substrates but are also ideal to finish heat-sensitive materials including plastics, carbon fiber and composites. UV powder coating is a viable coating solution for lightweighting materials used in electric vehicles, recreational equipment, additive manufacturing and other high-use products.

The Conclusions of the European Council in 2007 and 2011 established a need for reaching at least a total 20% of savings in the European primary energy consumption by 2020 (2007 baseline).
In order to meet this challenge, the European Union published in 2012 the Energy Efficiency Directive 2012/27/EU (EED), which has established a common framework to promote concrete actions related to energy efficiency in the European market.
Within the EED, the Article 14 stands out for promoting the energy efficiency through the use of CHP (combined heat and power), district heating and cooling and by recovering industrial waste heat.

Five actions fit for 55: streamlining energy savings calculationsLeonardo ENERGY

We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.

The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
