Major Ethereum hacks have resulted in the theft of millions of dollars worth of cryptocurrency. The DAO hack in 2016 stole $70 million due to a re-entrancy bug allowing draining of funds. Parity wallet hacks in 2017 froze $155 million and stole $30 million by exploiting flaws allowing unauthorized changes to wallet ownership. Honeypot contracts try to trick hackers by appearing to give funds if more is sent but instead keep the funds. Careful coding and auditing of smart contracts is needed to avoid security vulnerabilities.
