1.Introduction
The topic of our second project is Built Environment , Better Cities
of the Future . This project is divided into two parts , part A(individual)
and part B(group) . In part A , we are required to submit a report and a
3 minutes video presentation . In part B , we are required to build a
model of the chosen city and prepare maximum 3 numbers of A2
board to explain about the city .
In this project , as a mayor of a city which we need to design
and build a new city as the previous one was destroyed or damaged .
The new city have to be functional and sustainable .
This project will help us to expose the elements of natural and
built environment in their basic unit , form and function . We get to
understand the different characteristics of the natural and built
environment by exploring the basic elements such as landscape ,
space and building .

2.The City
2.1The City Definition
A city is a large and densely populated urban area; may include
several independent administrative districts . People lives in a city
which has a lot of attractions and houses . City is a home to
everyone .
Cities have been called the highest forms of social organization.
Think of the complexity of road systems, transportation, building
laws, markets, food distribution, educational systems, etc.
Cities often provide protection in a precarious world. During
attacks, the rural populace could flee behind city walls, where
defence forces assembled to repel the enemy. The wall served this
purpose for millennia, until the invention of heavy artillery rendered
walls useless in warfare. With the advent of modern aerial warfare,
cities have become prime targets for destruction rather than safe
havens.
2.2What is the brief history
During most of the Neolithic age, people lived in small tribes
composed of multiple bands or lineages. There is little scientific
evidence of developed social stratification in most Neolithic
societies; social stratification is more associated with the later Bronze
Age.
However, Neolithic societies were noticeably more hierarchical
than the Paleolithic cultures that preceded them and hunter-
gatherer cultures in general. Families and households were still
largely independent economically, and the household was
probably the center of life. However, excavations in Central Europe

have revealed that early Neolithic Linear Ceramic cultures were
building large arrangements of circular ditches between 4800 BC
and 4600 BC.
2.3What makes a city
Someone needs to control the city . This person will run the whole
city and has the responsible to protect the citizens . The government
is in charge of everything in the city . A city need to have
transportation , business area , road system , houses , services area ,
attractions , education area , hospitals , agriculture area and more .
City needs to provide food and water so that people can live in
this city . Clean water to drink and food to eat is a basic needs for a
human .
Cities are more densely populated than towns. Towns are smaller
than cities but bigger than villages. Unlike towns, most cities are the
seat of most of a region’s administrative functions, that is to say,
most of the important administrative offices are situated in the cities.
2.4What makes a good city
- Safe to live
- Clean environment
- Clean water to drink
- Efficient electricity
- Balance economy
- Has a good education
- Enough places to live
- Has many attractions
- Religious building to encourage people to go and to learn
- Proper roads in the city
- Good medical resources
- More public places for people to interact

- Good leader / politics that can lead or run the city
- Jobs around the city
2.5What is the future city
A future city is different from ancient city . It is more modern and
have many improved technologies which make life so much easier .
Future cities have for facilities and more development . It aims at
unlocking the full potential of interdisciplinary research in urban
technologies, as well as strengthening knowledge transfer activities
in close cooperation with local and global industrial partners.
A future city is a sustainable city which is a better city and a
greener city . Future cities focuses more on the environment so that
we can live better and safer .

6. Case Study of a Skyscraper
6.1Where did you get your information?
I got all my information from books and internet . I did some
research on how to build a city and what should I include in the city .
After researching for these information , I’ve learnt a lot from the
process of researching and included it in this report and the video
presentation .
6.2What is the interesting part and important consideration
The interesting part is to learn how to maintain a skyscraper
which I have some solutions to stabilize the skyscraper and to
maintain it well .
The another interesting part of researching is I get to know what’s
happening around us . I was very amazed at the technologies that
we have now and the past . I get to understand their lifestyle from
the past and the patterns , structures and the elements that they
have last time . It is completely different from now .
The transportation are very different now . They used to walk last
time but now , there are so many different types of transportation
for us to travel anywhere in just a short time .
So , for my “X” city , I will have 3 transportation which Im not
going to include cars as one of the transportation as it is bad for the
environment .
I’m including a lot of green places to help the environment and to
let people to interact more often . A business city is my theme ,
which I have included a big space for the business area . These
companies and building will help my city to grow in different
aspects . I have also included new technologies for my city which
will help the city even better .

7.The New “X” City – ASPACHE
7.1Problems And Solutions
The cause of tsunami and earthquake is getting very serious as it
destroyed most of the houses , buildings and almost everything .
As a mayor , I have decided to build a Skyscraper so that people
can live on top to avoid these disaster .
These disaster such as tsunami can be avoided by building a
skyscraper because , Skyscraper is tall and the citizens are living
on top . Therefore , it doesn’t affects the citizens . As for
earthquake , this city is built with large dampers filled with
magnetorheological fluid to stabilize the structures . This
magnetorheological fluid is a liquid that changes to a near-solid
when exposed to a magnetic force , then back to liquid once
the magnetic force is removed .

7.2Why is it a skyscraper ?
Aspache is a business city , as many business buildings are high-
rise . Hence skyscraper is suitable for a business city like Aspache .
By building a skyscraper , it can reduce the risk of the citizens to
lose their homeland as this city has many technologies to
maintain and protect the city .
7.3Name and Meaning of the city
Aspache is the name of the ‘X’ city . This name came from these
two words , Aspasia it means welcome and Tyche which means
fortune in Greek . The combination of these two words has the
meaning of “welcoming Fortune” which means this city is full of
fortune .

7.5Theme , shape and hierarchy
The theme of this city is Business and Green . Aspache is a business
city . This city focuses more on business and development as it is a
modern with full of technologies . It is also a green city as it has many
green places .
The shape of this city is a crescent shape . I chose this shape is
because this shape is the shape of a crescent moon which we are
closer to the moon than anyone else . This skyscraper is connected to
the ground with a long tube . The height of this city is 450m .
The hierarchy of this city will start from the Mayor , council members ,
operators and lastly , securities .

7.9Technology
-Energy and electricity is taken from solar panel , wind power plant
-The clever rubbish system is installed in every building or shops including
residential area . There are no rubbish trucks trawling the streets or vast
bins dotted around blocks of flats. Instead, all household waste is sucked
directly from individual kitchens through a vast underground network of
tunnels, to waste processing centres, where it's automatically sorted,
deodorised and treated to be kinder to the environment.
-Rainwater harvesting system is located at the industrial area .
The rainwater is collected on top of the building with a tank . The water will
then flow through the tube and will be filtered .
-For the agriculture area , Plant tissue culture is a collection of techniques
used to maintain or grow plant cells, tissues or organs under sterile
conditions on a nutrient culture medium of known composition. Plant

tissue culture is widely used to produce clones of a plant in a method
known as micropropagation . This is used for food source .
-Installation of light sensors at the building perimeters to take advantage
of daylight .
7.10 Conclusion about the new X city
This city is definitely a better city and an improved city . This city has
many green places which helps the environment and the oxygen . This
city has many technologies which makes life easier . Citizens of this city
can enjoy their lifes and interact with others . I believe this city will bring
joy to the citizens .

8.Conclusion
This whole process of designing and thinking how to build a city is very
challenging . We have to think all different types of aspects and small
little details of a city .
What I’ve learnt is to think about the others instead of the needs of
myself while building/designing a city . I think a green place is very
important for a city as people can go there to relax and to release stress
from work. It is better to have more places where people can relax their
mind . My city has a festival park which brings all the citizens together to
celebrate any festival . I think its very important to think about the others
too while designing a city .
I have also learnt how to communicate ideas through observation and
using different tolls or techiques to present information .
I believe that Aspache can bring joy to everyone and it can be more
and more better in the future .
