2. COLOURS
• Throughout the music video there is a dive inbetween the use of colours and no
colours, this adds effect to the mood of the music video, obviously if there is no
colour a more depressive vibe is given off and when there is colour it is seen as a
happy or normal thing to see, but mainly happy when put in contrast with the dark
tones of some of the shots.
• There is also a use of colour saturation which could be perceived as being drunk due
to the large amounts of alcohol presented in the saturated colours scene, however it is
up to viewer interpretation which makes it very effective, it could also be argued that
the hazy colours of the saturation promotes a feeling of love sickness and looking
back at the situation with rose tinted glasses, however, it could just represent the
looking back into time in a different colour to show when the events occurred in the
video as it is almost telling a story.

3. STORY
• At some parts in the music video it is not clear that there is a story behind each shot, while I am kept
entertained by the varying shot types there just isn’t anything to follow some of the time, instead of a
story which I belive ellie was trying to put through it seemed like a bunch of aimless walking around
without much behind it apart from a teased breakup or loss of a loved one looking back in anguish or
in resentment, but, overall there is no clear story, it goes from a city setting to the seaside setting
which could be interpreted as trying to escape from her problems however this doesn’t really make
sense when added to the song lyrics that are used in the song, usually if there is some sort of breakup
In the youth as the title of the song blatantly states, there would be a lot more getting over them and
going out with someone else as youth is perceived as to not settle down but to be young and free, the
ages of the charaters may have been hard to interpret but the music video doesn’t really match the
song in some parts.
• However, in the message it was trying to send it was very clear on the points it was making and was
very aware of what it was doing, this created an effective and overall good shot compilation of walking
around aimlessly as you are lost without someone.

4. EDITING
• The editing speed was very good throughout the entire music video, the good use of shot
compilation and the effective timings with the beat of the song allowed for a pleasant watch
compared to some other real music videos that have been created, an especially good use of
editing was toward the end of the video when the pace of the music began to pick up and the
entire music video was played at a fast pace along with the music, this could be interpreted as
the characters life flashing before her eyes as she stands there before the beach and the seaside,
the editing was done well so it was not too fast however it was not slow enough to make the
viewer want to stop watching the music video.
• Another good use of editing would be moving the camera in editing after the shots had been
shot which allows movement in the shots at all times, this is effective as the music video should
never stop moving so even on the still shots there can be movement to keep entertainment
from the audience.
