Elizabeth Cady Stanton was a pioneering advocate for women's rights who was born in 1815 in New York. She was outraged as a teenager after overhearing that women were not allowed to own property. As an adult, she fought tirelessly for women's suffrage and helped organize the first women's rights convention in 1848 in Seneca Falls, New York. Along with Susan B. Anthony, she co-founded the National Woman Suffrage Association and served as its president for 21 years. Although she died in 1902 before women gained the right to vote, her activism and battle cry of "Have it, we must. Use it, we will" changed the course of history and helped American women finally gain suffrage
