Benjamin Franklin was born in Boston in 1706 and had a limited formal education. He worked as a printer and authored Poor Richard's Almanack. Franklin made many scientific discoveries including inventing bifocals and proving that lightning is electricity. He served as a statesman and signed the Declaration of Independence. Franklin made major contributions to science, politics, and everyday life before dying in 1790.
