BIRTH/EARLY LIFE:
Annelies Marie Frank was born on June 12, 1929. Before
Hitler took over Germany, Anne and her family lived in a quiet,
friendly neighborhood in Frankfurt, Germany. She lived with her
father Otto, her mother Edith, and older sister Margot. After Hitler
took over, the Frank family moved to the Netherlands in the city
of Amsterdam because Hitler was separating Jewish people from
other Germans. Anne was affected when Hitler took over
Amsterdam by making new laws.
EDUCATION
Anne started school in
1934 at the age of 5 in
Amsterdam. Hitler took over
Amsterdam and made a law
that Jewish people couldn’t
go to the same school as
non-Jewish people. At the
age of 12 Anne started at a
new school, leaving behind
her old non-Jewish friends.
While Anne was hiding, she
studied math, English,
geography, French, and
history.
TEEN YEARS
When Anne was 13 her
parents gave her a red checkered
diary. Anne’s first entry was to her
imaginary friend Kitty. Anne said: “I
hope I will be able to confide
everything to you, as I’ve never been to
able to confide in anyone, and I hope
you will be a source of comfort and
support.”-Anne Frank.
In July 1942 Anne and her family
went into hiding in her father Otto’s
company building. Anne often wrote in
her diary during this time. In 1944
German police found Anne and her
family and they were immediately sent
to a concentration camp.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Otto Frank found Anne’s diary when
he returned to Amsterdam. He had the
diary published on June 25, 1947. The
book was titled, The Secret Annex: Diary
letters from June 14, 1942 to August 1st.
It was later published in English in 1952
as Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young
Girl. It has been translated into 67
different languages. Also, it has been
turned into a movie and a play. The
Secret Annex was soon turned into a
museum in 1960 called the Anne Frank
House.
IMPACT ON THE WORLD
Anne Frank’s diary
allowed people to easily learn
about the Holocaust from a
child’s perspective. Anne’s
writings inspired people all
over the world through her
hope and courage. The last
words in her diary were “In
spite of everything I still
believe that people are really
good at heart.”
IMPACT ON THE WORLD
Sadly Anne died at
the age of only 15
in March of 1945.
She died in a
concentration
camp called
Bergen-Belsen.
Margot died in the
same camp. Anne
Frank had a short
but inspiring and
meaningful life.
