Elements of
Instructional Strategy
     S. Jasmine Evans
Basic Information
 Dick and Carey use the term Instructional
Strategy to describe the process of
  sequencing and organizing content.

 The planning of an instructional strategy is
an important part of the overall instruction
  design process.
Basic Information
 When creating a good instructional
strategy take all of the information you’ve
  accumulated and generate an effective
  plan for your leaners.
 Creating the strategy before developing
the materials will help accomplish the
  objectives.
 Dick and Carey described the four
  elements of an instructional strategy.
Four Elements
 Content Sequence and Clustering
 Learning Components
 Students Groupings
 Selection of Media and Delivery Systems
Element 1
Content Sequencing and Clustering
 First step is deciding on a teaching sequence and
     grouping of content.
Clustering Instruction
How you will group for instructional activities
1. The age level of your learners
2. The complexity of the material
3. The type of learning taking place
4. Can the activity be varied, focusing attention on the
      task
5. The amount of time required to include all the events
      for the content presented.
Element 2
Learning Components
 this element should support the internal processes of
learning by gaining the viewers attention which ties
directly with the concept of motivation.
Element 3
Student Grouping
 The main things in this element is to consider
whether there are any requirements for social
  interaction explicit

 Student grouping can also hinder individual
learning but can also motivate students and keep
  them interested.
Element 4
Selection of Media and Delivery System
 Specific agents or media can be assigned, event-
  by-event, objective-by-objective to accomplish the
  intended goal.
 Different types of media should be chosen based
on the type of learning your objectives fall into.
 When selecting media you should make sure that
the media selected will be available in the learning
  environment.
