8. INTRODUCTION
An electric car is a plug-in electric automobile that is propelled by one or
more electric motors, using energy typically stored in rechargeable batteries.
Why electric car?
Fuel savings from driving electric cars
Electricity rates are much more stable than gasoline prices. Over the past 10 years, the cost of
fuel ranged from $1.50 to $4.00 per gallon. By comparison, over that same amount of time,
electric car drivers paid about $1.20 for electricity to go the same distance.
Plug-in hybrid EVs are more efficient than standard gas-powered vehicles
Unlike all-electric vehicles, which use no gasoline, plug-in hybrid cars have a fuel backup to
power the car in the event that the battery’s charge runs out. While this means there is cost for
both charging the vehicle and refuelling, PHEVs use fuel more efficiently than conventional
gasoline-based vehicles. plug-in hybrids use anywhere from 30 to 60 percent less gasoline than
conventional gasoline-powered engines. Their internal combustion engine is used to recharge
the car’s battery.
Electric vehicles & the environment
Electric cars are higher efficiency than gas-powered cars, can reduce your dependence on fossil
fuels and require less maintenance than most cars. EV can be run 100% on sustainable,
renewable resources. There are four factors to consider when evaluating the impact of electric
cars on the environment: tailpipe emissions, well-to-wheel emissions, the energy source that
charges the battery, and the car’s efficiency.
Electric car emissions: tailpipe and well-to-wheel
When an electric vehicle is running on electricity, it emits no tailpipe emission. While “being
green” in the act of driving your electric vehicle is a start, if your primary goal in purchasing an
electric vehicle is to reduce your greenhouse gas and pollutants emissions, you should also
prioritize using zero-emissions electricity wherever possible.
To maximize the environmental benefits of your electric car
An electric vehicle will produce fewer emissions than a comparable gasoline-powered car.
However, if you are looking to generate as close to zero well-to-wheel emissions as possible, not
all electricity sources are created equal. If your primary motive in purchasing an electric vehicle is
to be green, you should consider powering your car with a renewable energy source that you can
generate at your home (such as solar, wind, or geothermal energy).
Efficiency of electric cars
electric vehicles are considered more sustainable than traditional vehicles is because electric car
efficiency is higher. When the gasoline in conventional vehicles combusts to power the car,
pproximately 17 to 21 percent of the energy is converted into power for the car. EVs, on the other
hand, are able to convert 59 to 62 percent of the electric energy to power for the vehicle.
9. Maintenance costs for EVs vs. fossil fuel powered cars
The fuel used to power your car is only one factor in the cost of car ownership. In particular,
vehicle maintenance costs can stack up over time. With ICEs, engine maintenance can be a
huge money sink, especially as cars age. Changing the engine oil, coolant, transmission fluid,
and belts can add up in value over time. By comparison, electric cars don’t have internal
combustion engines, so these costs disappear. Universal vehicle expenses like tire and brake
changes, insurance, and structural repair are part of owning any vehicle, but EV owners avoid
many of the repeated costs associated with combustion engine upkeep.
EVs aren’t without expenses, however. The largest possible maintenance expense for an electric
vehicle is a replacement battery pack.

TESLA:
1.TESLA MODEL S:
The Tesla Model S is a full-sized / mid-size luxury all-electric five-door liftback car, produced
by Tesla, Inc..EPA official range for the 2017 Model S 100D, which is equipped with a
100 kWh (360 MJ) battery pack, is 335 miles (539 km), higher than any other electric car.
The Tesla Model S was the top selling plug-in electric car worldwide in 2015 and 2016, and by
the end of 2017 continued to rank as the second most-sold electric car in history after the Nissan
Leaf.
The 2012 Tesla Model S Performance model has a three-phase, four-pole AC induction 416 hp
(310 kW) and 443 ft⋅lb (601 N⋅m) rear-mounted electric motor with copper rotor.[66] The base
model uses a 362 hp (270 kW) and 325 ft⋅lb (441 N⋅m) motor.
BATTERY
10. The battery is guaranteed for eight years or 125,000 miles (200,000 km in metric countries) for
the base model with the 60 kWh battery pack. The 85 kWh battery pack is guaranteed for eight
years and unlimited miles.
In 2015, Tesla introduced a 70 kWh battery to replace the existing 60 kWh batteries and base
60 kWh Model S vehicles, as the 60 was low margin and not sufficiently welcomed by
customers. All 70 kWh cars can be had with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The 60 was re-
introduced in 2016 as a software-limited 75, upgradable to 75.
CHARGING
The Tesla Wall Connector is available for installation at a home or business, and it allows
charging at up to 19.2 kW in North America and 22 kW in Europe (although charging the vehicle
at 11.5 kW requires the High Amperage Charger option on the vehicle).
Tesla built 120-kW Tesla supercharger stations to allow long distance travel in North America,
Europe, Asia, and Australia. A Supercharger can add up to 125 miles (201 km) of range in 20
minutes and a full charge in approximately one hour assuming a nearly empty 85 kWh battery.

2. TESLA MODEL 3
Tesla Model 3 2016 is one of the most awaited Tesla models for the Indian market. This premium
sedan will be the most affordable model in the company's line-up. Electric cars never caught on
in the country, but this model sure is to bring that interest back in the segment. Also Tesla will be
offering supercharging as standard feature on all Tesla Model 3 variants. Tesla Model 3 colours
are white, red and matte grey.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
the Tesla Model 3 will be able to clock 0-96kmph under 6 seconds. Tesla will also place a
supercharger network across India to provide swift charging in about 75 minutes providing you
freedom to drive anywhere without stressing upon discharging batteries.

11. Tesla claims Tesla Model 3 mileage will be around 346km on a single charge.

According to Tesla officials, the Model 3 Standard Battery version delivers an EPA-rated all-
electric range of 220 miles (354 km) and the Long Range Battery version delivers 310 miles

BMW:
1)BMW I3:
The BMW i3 has been on sale since 2014, and in that time, BMW has seen fit to expand its
battery size and, by proxy, its range. For the 2019 model year, it's getting yet another battery
upgrade, and it's a big one.
The 2019 BMW i3 will come with a 42.2-kWh battery (120 amp-hours), which should permit for
up to 153 miles of all-electric driving. This is a roughly 30 percent improvement over the previous
94-Ah battery, which allowed for 115 miles of range. The i3's first battery was just 60 Ah, offering
a range of just 81 miles. Oh, how far we've come.
BMW will offer the battery in both variants of the i3. The standard i3 uses a 170-horsepower
electric motor, powerful enough to get the little EV to 60 mph in just 7.2 seconds. The i3s, on the
other hand, is the sportier trim, offering a 181-hp electric motor and a 6.8-second sprint to 60.

1)NISSAN LEAF CONVERTIBLE:
Nissan unveiled an open-top version of its Leaf electric car late May to celebrate building the
100,000th example of the popular EV.The Leaf Open Car is just a one-off, with no plans for
production, and Nissan said little to nothing else about it besides that.The car made its debut
at a celebratory forum in Tokyo with about 100 execs and government officials, but we’d be
shocked if it didn’t do the car show circuit after this.The new-generation Leaf, which came
out last October, is powered by a 40-kWh battery pack, good for about 240 km of range. A
60-kWh battery is rumoured to be on the way, which could see range extended to 360
km.The 2019 Leaf’s electric motor makes about 147 horsepower, and 238 lb-ft of torque.
2)NISSAN SPICES UP THE LEAF:
Nissan will reveal a new variant of the Leaf, called the Grand Touring concept, at the Tokyo Auto
Salon next month. It is a variant of the latest EV by the Japanese automaker. Apart from the two-
tone black-and-silver paintwork and the aggressive body kit, Nissan hasn’t revealed much else
about this concept. But the word is that it will be equipped with the latest aftermarket parts
offered through Autech Japan, a Nissan sub-brand focused on tuning the automaker’s vehicles.
Nissan hasn’t said if the Leaf Grand Touring concept receives any mechanical upgrades, but the
base Leaf is good for 241 kilometres range out of its 40 kWh battery pack. But it likely won’t be
as hot as the recently revealed Leaf Nismo, with its aggressive styling and upgrades under the skin.
The Tokyo Auto Salon is an auto show primarily for custom cars and concepts kicking off next
month; along with the Leaf Grand Touring, Nissan will show 14 other custom vehicles.
