The 16th Lok Sabha elections will be held from April 7th to May 12th 2014 over nine phases, making it the longest election in India's history. Voting will take place in all 543 parliamentary constituencies to elect members of parliament, and results will be declared on May 16th. The major political parties competing are the Indian National Congress led by Rahul Gandhi, the Bharatiya Janata Party led by Narendra Modi, and the new Aam Aadmi Party led by Arvind Kejriwal which is contesting about 278 seats. This election is expected to be the biggest democratic election in world history with over 814 million eligible voters.
