The document summarizes key details about the 2019 Indian general election, scheduled to take place from April 11th to May 19th across 7 phases. Over 90 crore eligible voters will select 543 parliamentary representatives from over 8,000 candidates. Key parties include the ruling BJP led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and the opposition Indian National Congress led by Rahul Gandhi. Major issues in the election include the economy, national security, and fulfillment of government promises. The election is expected to shape the future of Indian politics.
India has just completed a historic election. The results are staggering. While many expected that the Narendra-Modi-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) would come to power, the landslide that materialised was a surprise to many.
Clearly, Modi’s emphasis on the economy, ease of doing business, infrastructure and job creation struck home.
With voters handing him a decisive victory, it is now Modi’s turn to deliver. His pro-business slant and reputation as an ace administrator mean that expectations are sky-high.
In the latest edition of ‘Public Affairs Round-up’, MSLGROUP identifies what is likely to be the new government’s list of priorities.
Modi has his work cut out. None of the challenges before – from cutting red tape to clearing critical projects – will be easy. It will require more than numbers in Parliament; an ability to take people along will be vital.

‘वोटर्स विल मस्ट प्रीवेल’ (मतदाताओं को जीतना होगा) अभियान द्वारा जारी हेल्पलाइन नंबर, 4 जून को सुबह 7 बजे से दोपहर 12 बजे तक मतगणना प्रक्रिया में कहीं भी किसी भी तरह के उल्लंघन की रिपोर्ट करने के लिए खुला रहेगा।
In a May 9, 2024 paper, Juri Opitz from the University of Zurich, along with Shira Wein and Nathan Schneider form Georgetown University, discussed the importance of linguistic expertise in natural language processing (NLP) in an era dominated by large language models (LLMs).
The authors explained that while machine translation (MT) previously relied heavily on linguists, the landscape has shifted. “Linguistics is no longer front and center in the way we build NLP systems,” they said. With the emergence of LLMs, which can generate fluent text without the need for specialized modules to handle grammar or semantic coherence, the need for linguistic expertise in NLP is being questioned.
2. General
Election
2019
India is the world’s largest democracy and ongoing
Lok sabha election is the world's largest democratic
election exercise.
The Indian General elections are scheduled to be held
in 7 phases from
11th April to 19th May 2019
for 543 seats of the parliament.
The the votes will be counted on 23rd May.
3. ■ More than 10 lakh polling stations would be set up to conduct the Lok
Sabha election 2019.
■ In this year's Lok Sabha election 2019, around 90 crore people are eligible
to vote this time.
■ Lok Sabha Election 2019 will see over 13 crore first-time voters. These
voters in the age group of 18-19 years constitute 1.66 per cent of the total
electorate. Two-thirds of Indians are under 35.
■ More than 8,000 contestants will fight for 543 seats.
■ According to the New Delhi-based Centre for Media Studies, the Lok
Sabha polling exercise, will cost an unprecedented 500 billion.
4. ■ In this election the current ruling party that is Bhartiya Janta Party(BJP)
will strive to retain its majority while the major opposition party, Indian
National Congress (INC) will try to get maximum seat and get back the
power again.
■ The contemporary issue is in “Lok Sabha Election” in 2019 will be a hard
fought contest between all the National parties in India. The Bhartiya
Janta Party (BJP), the Indian National Congress (INC) and their allied
parties are already geared up for the race to the form the Central
Government.
5. The face of ruling party BJP is none other than Prime Minister Shri. Narendra
Damodardas Modi. Under the Modi wave BJP has won 2014 “Lok Sabha Election”
and various state elections. In 2014, Narendra Modi-led BJP had won 282 seats out of
543 constituencies in Lok Sabha election, 2104, handing out a crushing defeat to the
10-year-rule of the United Progressive Alliance(UPA) led by the Congress. This year,
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will contest from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh for Lok
Sabha polls. Congress chief Rahul Gandhi will contest from Amethi, Uttar Pradesh
and Wayanad, Kerala in Lok Sabha election 2019.
6. Many see the 2019 “Lok Sabha Election” as Modi vs the rest. The BJP has a
stronghold in major and biggest states in the country which beholds a tough
competition to the opposition parties.
The BJP government is in all praises for its milestones achieved in terms of improved
International stature of the country. Up scaled programs like Make in India, Skill India
and schemes like Jan Dhan yojana, Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana are quoted as the
success story of the Modi government.
The opposition parties are trying to highlight and score on issues which downsize
the Modi Government. The opposition has raised issues like the losses happen
because of demonetization, no growth in the agricultural sector, increasing
unemployment in the youth, increasing prices of natural gas and fuels, huge
scandals faced by major banks in the country and Current topic is Rafael Deal. The
unfulfilled promises of the Modi Government are the key talking points for Congress
and its allies.
7. Conclusion:
The “Lok Sabha Election” of 2019 will definitely prove pivotal in shaping the politics
of contemporary India. All the parties are running massive campaigns to register
their names in the minds and hearts of the people. Apparently the people of India are
keeping a close eye on all the ongoing political activities to make their decision for
the Elections in 2019.
Thank you so much
