PRECAUTIONARY APPROACHES IN APPLICATION AND
USAGE OF BIOPESTICIDES
4. PRECAUTIONARY APPROACHES
Biopesticides are intendent to control different categories of pests
viz., borers, defoliators and sucking pests. For effective control the
active ingradient has to reach the target insect pest without losing
its efficacy. The biopesticides are formulated products of living
agents. Hence they have to be protected from the environmental
conditions in order to reach the target
5. IGRs AS BIOPESTICIDES
Precautions
1.The NPV and Bt formulations are photodegradable and may
loose their efficacy under exposure to UV rays. Hence protection
of the infective propagules is important. Jaggery at a
concentration of 1% and sandovit/ranipal/teepol at
0.1%should be tank mixed
2.The spraying operations should be carried out during the
morning/afternoon hours in order to protect the infective
propagules from environmental conditions and early germination
of the entomopathogenic fungus.
3.The formulation should be within the expiry date and monitor the
quality using the haemocytometer and it should meet the
standards given by the Government of India
6. IGRs AS BIOPESTICIDES
4. Respiratory devices should be provided in the biopesticide laboratory and
masks should be used while spraying in the field to avoid the allergic reaction
of the entomopathogenic fungus.
5.The bio pesticides should not mix with the synthetic insecticides and
proper IPM module should be prepared in order to protect the efficacy of the
respective biopesticide against the target insect pest.
6.The NPV Poly Occlusion Bodies/Bt/Entomopathogenic fungus infective
propagules should not keep outside in the laboratory, should be protected
keeping in the refrigerator
7.The farmer should clean the sprayer lance and nozzles in order to avoid
the clogging.
8.The farmer should use the protective cloths while spraying in order to
avoid the allergic reaction of entomopathogenic fungi.
