This document discusses family policy and relationship/marriage education programs in Western societies. It provides an overview of bipartisan support for family-strengthening programs in the US under Clinton, Bush, and Obama. Relationship/marriage education teaches skills like effective speaking, listening, and conflict resolution that can help couples have healthier relationships and lower divorce rates. Studies show these programs are effective and have broader social benefits by reducing poverty and crime. The organization Healthy Relationships International promotes these types of voluntary education programs internationally.

DIVORCE AS A SOCIAL PROBLEM
When a married couple can not live together comfortably the dissolution of marriage is called ‘divorce’.
Divorce ratio is higher today then compared to rates just 15 years ago: The causes of divorce vary from couple to couple but the research done on the causes of divorce by different researchers shows that
1) Lack of communication: is one of the leading causes of divorce. The divorces often happen when people rarely discuss their expectations in details and are less willing to work on their marriages and would like quick solution rather than having to resolve issues.
2) People who come from divorced homes are more likely to get divorced than people who come from happily married household. divorce seem less like a big deal if one has seen his parents go through with it:
3) People who get married between the ages of 23-27 are likely to stay together, than people who get married in their teens:

The IHC Childrens Rights Seminar on 23 March in Wellington which focused on Early and Sustained Support for Children with a Disability was a resounding success! Government and non-Government agencies, parents, advocates, and professionals from all sectors came together to discuss a range of issues facing children with a disability and their families in early life. The three presentations from the seminar can be accessed here and a further document stating IHC’s round up of the issues and plan for action will be released shortly.
IHC also announced the beginning of a new e-discussion group on this topic which received huge support, if you are interested in joining this group please email laura.o.donovan@ihc.org.nz indicating your interest and what you would like to get from this discussion group.
Parent engagement is a shared effort. It is rooted in the slow and patient work of relationship-building. What experiences and know-how do parents bring to the table? How are parents engaged in their children’s lives right now? How can agencies change its system and beliefs about parent ?

In her evaluation of psychologies contribution to research to this topic is showing not having that relationship with parents the adolescent will be less like to feel comfortable coming to the parent to help with major decisions. Hmong American youth perceived less parental support and knowledge and were less likely to report authoritative decision making with parents(Small, Supple 2006 p 1 pg. 1214).

Russian anarchist and anti-war movement in the third year of full-scale warAntti Rautiainen
Anarchist group ANA Regensburg hosted my online-presentation on 16th of May 2024, in which I discussed tactics of anti-war activism in Russia, and reasons why the anti-war movement has not been able to make an impact to change the course of events yet. Cases of anarchists repressed for anti-war activities are presented, as well as strategies of support for political prisoners, and modest successes in supporting their struggles.

5. From President Barack Obama
“…Finally, preliminary research shows that marriage education
workshops can make a real difference in helping married
couples stay together and in encouraging unmarried couples
who are living together to form a more lasting bond.
Expanding access to such services to low income couples,
perhaps in concert with job training and placement, medical
coverage, and other services already
available, should be something everybody
can agree on…”
Barack Obama, Audacity of Hope, 2006, p. 334
7. It’s Also “All About the Money”
“ACF (Administration for Children and Families) spends $46
billion per year operating 65 different social programs. If one
goes down the list of these programs… the need for each is
either created or exacerbated by the breakup of families and
marriages.”
Wade Horn, Ph.D., Assistant Secretary, Administration for
Children and Families (US-HHS/ACF), 2004
“For every $1,000 that government spends providing services to
broken families, it spends $1 trying to stop family breakdown.”
Fagan, Patrick F. “Encouraging Marriage and
Discouraging Divorce”. Washington, DC: Heritage
Foundation, The Backgrounder #1421, March 26, 2001
8. HMI’s purpose IS:
“To help couples, who have chosen marriage for themselves,
gain greater access to marriage education services, on a
voluntary basis, where they can acquire the skills and
knowledge necessary to form and sustain a healthy marriage.”
HMI is NOT:
• Coercing anyone to marry or remain in unhealthy
relationships.
• Withdrawing supports from single parents.
• Stigmatizing those who choose divorce.
• Limiting access to divorce.
• Running a federal dating service.
