Albert Einstein was born in Germany in 1879 and later acquired Swiss citizenship. He studied in Switzerland and Germany, receiving his teaching diploma in 1901. In 1905, he published his first paper on the special theory of relativity. He was later appointed director of the Kaiser Wilhelm Physical Institute in Berlin. Einstein became a US citizen in 1940 and retired in 1945. He made significant contributions to physics, including his theories of relativity and statistical mechanics. Einstein received many honors for his scientific work and died in 1955 in Princeton, New Jersey.
