The document summarizes key events and characters from ancient Egyptian mythology. It describes how Osiris became king and brought civilization to Egypt but was later murdered by his jealous brother Set. Isis searched for and reassembled Osiris' body parts. Their son Horus later fought Set to avenge his father and claim the throne. The myths explain Egyptian beliefs about the afterlife and roles of various gods and goddesses in their pantheon.
Egyptian religion had ancient origins and lasted for at least 3,500 years. The Egyptians saw divinity in everything — in river, desert, and vegetation; in the sun, moon, and stars; in animals and kings; in birth and death. They created a vast and confusing multitude of gods.

There may be no greater tribute to a society's ingenuity and vision than Egypt's Great Pyramid of Giza. Question 1, 14
1. In your own words explain how the deity Horus became the king of Egypt and Osiris became king of the underworld.
Set tricked Osiris into getting into a box, which he then locked, and had sealed with lead, then he threw it into the Nile River (sarcophagi were based on the box in this myth). Now Osiris' wife, Isis, looked for his remains until she found them rooted in the trunk of a tree, it so happen that the trunk of the tree was holding up the roof of a palace in Byblos on the Phoenician coast. Isis is said to have remove the coffin and open it, but found Osiris already dead. Isis casted a spell she had learned from her father that brought Osiris back to life so he could impregnate her. Isis became pregnant and Osiris died again, so she hid his body in the desert.
Some months later, she gave birth to Horus. While she was off raising Horus, Set had been out hunting one night, he came across the body of Osiris. Infuriated, he ripped the body of Osiris into fourteen pieces and spread them throughout the land. Isis found out and went and gathered up all the pieces of the body, less the phallus which had been eaten by a fish thereafter considered taboo by the Egyptians, and bandaged them together for a proper burial. The gods were impressed by her loyalty and thus resurrected Osiris as the god of the underworld.
Now Set was thought to have been gay, Set is described as trying to show his authority, by seducing Horus (by using the line how lovely your backside is) and then having femoral intercourse with him, in which Set takes the lead role. However, Horus put his hand down between his thighs and catches Set's semen, then cut his hand off, throwing it in the river, so it would not be said to have been inseminated by Set.
Now, Horus covertly masturbates, and intentionally spreads his semen on some lettuce, which was Set's favorite food (now the Egyptians thought that the lettuce was phallic, because Egyptian lettuce was hard, long, and seeped a milk like substance when rubbed). After Set has eaten the lettuce, both of them go to the gods to settle the argument over the rule of Egypt. The god’s begin by listen to Set's claim of authority over Horus, and they call Horus semen forth, but the answers from the river, nullifying his claim. Lastly the gods listen to Horus' claim of having authority over Set, and so they call his semen forth, and the answers came from inside Set. As the result, Horus is declared the king of Egypt.

Isis, Ancient Egyptian Goddess of Motherhood and MagicCaroline Seawright
Isis (Ast, Aset), unlike her twin sister Nephthys, is one of the most famous goddesses of ancient Egypt. Although it is thought that her worship originated in Africa, was nurtured and refined in Egypt, she was a popular goddess in predynastic times in the Delta area. At the opposite end of Egyptian history, her worship spread through the ancient world by the Greek tourists the Romans conquerors, albeit in a different form with the original myths of the goddess long forgotten. Her fame quickly spread to all corners of the Roman empire. There was even a temple to Isis on the River Themes in Southwark, London!
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

18. You will not give birth
to the child that’s
within you in any
month or in any year!
19. Re has cursed me so that I cannot give birth in any month
of any year! Is there anything you can do to help me?
Surely, one of the children within me is yours!
Do not spoil your beauty with your tears. Instead let
good cheer chase your grief from your heart. Trust me to
find a way to help you. I promise that before the next
year begins, you will be called the mother of the Gods!
20. Since you love to play games I will agree to
play as many games as you like if you will
help me. Every time I win, I want you to
give me a small part of your illumination.
You will never miss the light but it will be
very useful to me. Do you agree?
I don’t mind at all, as long
as you take very little light
each time.
25. Osiris became king of the Upper
and Lower Egypt and earned lasting
fame for himself and his subjects:
He united the nomads to be a
highly civilized people
He taught the arts of farming
Gave them a body of laws so
they could live and work
together in peace
And finally, taught them to
revere and worship the gods.
26.
27. After Osiris returned Set became even more
determined to rule Egypt.
One night, while Osiris was asleep Set
secretly measured the king’s body.
He then commanded his craftspeople to
construct a wooden box that would fit
Osiris. He ordered the best artisan in the
land to decorate it so beautifully that it
would be a work of art.
Finally he convinced 72 of Osiris’ subject to
join him in planning a revolt.
28. “Whoever among you would like to
own this beautiful box should climb
into it. I promise to give it as a gift
to the person whose body is a
perfect fit. “
29.
30. They carried the box to the Nile
river and dump it into the
water. the current carried the
box to the mouth of the Nile,
where it became lodged in the
papyrus swamps in the eastern
part of the delta.
31. The people who lived near the city of
Chemmis were the first to hear about the
murder of Osiris, and they spread word of
set’s terrible deed.
When Isis heard about Osiris’ death, hear
heart overflowed with grief.
She immediately cut of one of her locks as
a sign of mourning and put on the clothing
worn by a woman whose loved one has died.
Then she set off in search of the box.
32. Finally, she found a group of
children who had watched the
box drift into the papyrus
swamps at the mouth of the
Nile and they told her the
direction it had gone.
She learned that the box had
lodged among the branches of
the tamarisk bush in the
papyrus swamp near the
Byblos. This bush had grown
into a very large tree, and
the box had been completely
enclosed within the tree’s
trunk.
33. King Melcarthus
ordered to place
the huge trunk to
the center of his
dining hall to help
support the
palace. The use of
this tree trunk as
a column was
talked far and
wide.
34. She travelled to the town near Melcarthus’
palace.
The Goddess sat there in silence until queen
Astarte’s handmaidens arrived for water. Then
she spoke with them in a very kind and
friendly fashion .
35. Queen Astarte was so delighted
to Isis that she asked the
Mother Goddess to become the
nurse of one of her sons. In
time, Isis told the queen of
her story and asked for
permission to cut open the
pillar that supported the
palace.
With the queen’s permission
she did so and removed the
box without harming the
ceiling.
36.
37. Upon reaching the remote place in the desert,
Isis stopped and opened the box. The sight of
her beloved husband, lying still and lifeless, was
more than her heart could bear.
The great goddess placed her face against the
face of Osiris, embraced his body and wept with
grief. Then placed the wings of a bird upon her
arms, and hovered upon Osiris, flapping her
wings in order to create air for him to
breathe.
38. She carefully hid the box in a remote isolated
place, where it could be safe from harm.
39.
40. Listen to my counsel ,Isis, and obey me. Those who follow the
advise of other live and prosper. You must now escape from the
eye of Set, and I shall help you. If you will hide your child from
Set until he is grown up, he will become doubly strong. Then he
surely will avenge his father and will sit upon his father’s throne.
However until that time comes, Horus will never be far from
danger. Therefore I shall teach you the words of power that will
protect Horus from death on earth, in world above and in the
other world.
41. My child and I are all alone in the
world, because of the death of my
husband. My grief surpass the sorrow
of anyone in Egypt. So turn your face
to the ground and take me to a
hidden place where I may rear my child
in safety and in peace.
42. Isis brought Horus to an island in the
papyrus swamps of Nile Delta.
There she secretly nursed and rear her
child. Isis would often hide Horus
among the papyrus plants while she
went into a nearby city to find food.
But one day…
43.
44. It came to pass that Set was
hunting in the desert by
moonlight one night when he
accidentally came upon the
box that Isis had hidden.
As he gaze upon the corpse
of his rival, Set’s heart filled
with implacable hatred and
rage. In a mad fury, The evil
god tore the corpse of Osiris
into 14 pieces.
46. Whenever they found a
piece, Isis collected it.
Then buried a small
figurine of Osiris at
that spot and placed a
tomb over it. She hope
that this device would
mislead Set and give
them the time they
needed to find and heal
Osiris.
48. After finding Osiris
in the underworld,
Isis and Nephthys
pronounced the
magical worlds…
Horus removed his
other eye, and
placed it in his
father’s mouth, and
directed him to
swallow it.
50. Once Osiris had rejoined the gods, Re made
him the King of the Other World. Horus
then became king of the Upper and Lower
Egypt.
Now that Horus had taken
his place among the gods
Osiris decided that the
time had come to deal
with Set. He tested Horus
readiness to avenge his
father’s murder.
51. What is the most glorious
deed a man can perform?
To take avenge upon one who has
injured his father and mother.
What animal is most useful to a
warrior?
A horse
Why not a lion? A lion is more powerful but a horse is more
quicker. Therefore a horse help a warrior
capture a fleeing enemy better than a lion.
52. Horus and Set did fight each other, first in
the form of two men and then in the form
of two bears. The fight was so fierce that it
lasted 3 days.
54. But once Horus had conquered Set, Isis
suddenly felt a great pity for him. In her
sympathy for her fallen enemy, Isis used her
father’s magical words.
56. How can you do this to me mother? How can you let her do
it grandfather? Father did you train ,e to win, only to see
me lose in my moment of victory? Set has been our enemy
for so long! He is evil, and his ways are cruel beyond
imagining!
57. No one replied to Horus’ accusations. He
watched helpless, as Set ran away. In fury,
Horus then tore after Isis like a panther
chasing its prey. When he caught her, he
fought as fiercely as he had fought with Set.
Finally Horus cut of her…
58. Thoth immediately used his magical words of
power to change his daughters head into a
cow, and quickly attached it to her body.
Horus then knew that Set would have to
remain free. At least for the time being. He
would conquer him, but in some other way
around.
60. But Set did not give up. Twice more he
challenged Horus and twice more he lost in
combat.
At last he accepted Horus’
right to rule the kingdom.
61. Once Horus had inherited his father’s
kingdom Isis remained with Osiris in
the Other World and always
accompanied him. She was satisfied
and happy her husband had returned
to life and love. Her son had avenged
their father. The gods had
proclaimed truth against Set’s
accusations. The kingdom of upper
and lower Egypt was in good hands,
and all was well.
