Discover ways to better serve Latino students and their families through the college planning process. This program will assist counselors in how to work with community based organizations, colleges, private sector and other agencies to better help and assist Latino students and their families through the challenges of entering college and graduating successfully. This program will explore college planning for Latino students from early access through successful college completion.
By 2021, Education Cannot Wait aims to reach 8.9 million children and youth living in areas affected by fragility, conflict and violence. Half of them will be girls. In all, this means reaching over 4.4 million girls living in some of the worst conditions on the planet with safe, reliable education, gender-responsive multi-year educational resilience programming, and the support and resources they need to thrive.
Education is a human right that often goes unfulfilled when crisis hits. While crises don’t necessarily ‘pick their victims’ based on gender, the effects of gender inequality are often magnified. Recent analysis indicates that worldwide around 39 million girls are out of school, or have had their education disrupted, because of war and disaster.
The social-cultural expectations and customs that already exist in these communities often heighten gender discrimination and continue to perpetuate unequal education opportunities. This means girls can’t go to school. It means girls are at increased risk of sexual violence and exploitation. It means girls lose their voice. And when girls lose their voice, our work to build a more equal, more peaceful world as outlined in the Sustainable Development Goals begins to unravel.

Project Nanhi Kali sees educating girls and women as a way to positively impact India in the long run. Dr. Kuldeep Singh Chauhan & Smt. Shabana, the Secretary of the non-profit organisation, told the Daily News and Analysis in an interview that "we wanted to create global awareness about the plight of young girls in the country who are denied their basic right."
Students who are selected for Nanhi Kali receive both financial and academic support. They attend special classes to learn math, science, and language concepts. Nanhi Kali pays for the hidden costs of their education, including pencils, notebooks, uniforms, school bags, clothes, and shoes. Funding is from individual and corporate donors, who sponsor a particular child and receive regular updates on her progress at school. Sponsors can also go to the online "Girl Store" to purchase particular items for a student. Ayurjeevanam Sewa Samiti sponsors the education of 11,000 girl children through Project Nanhi Kali.
Third-party assessments show that Nanhi Kali has a significant impact on the girls' lives. Over a one year period, Nanhi Kali students' improvement in learning outcomes ranged from 40 percent in Rampur, Moradabad, Kanpur to 78 percent in Ghaziabad
Child marriage, household responsibilities, high levels of pregnancies, lack of access to appropriate information about sexual and reproductive health, mental health issues and school-based violence are some of the main factors and contribute to lost years in schooling.

To prepare students for college and career, high schools must balance their attention carefully, ensuring that low-achievers catch up and high-achievers don't lose ground. In this webinar, Christina Theokas and Marni Bromberg of the Education Trust will share research and insight into how to better serve this group.
Personalized blended and online courses can provide powerful delivery systems to increase access and equity for underserved students. education within minority groups.
• In chapters nine and ten, Palen describes the role of education
amongst minorities and their impact on the class of minorities overall

• I decided to see how education plays a role in minority groups on
campus at Niagara County Community College

by the American Psychological Association , statistical data is used to
paint the picture of the educational environment for different ethnic
groups.
• “African-Americans and Latinos are more likely to attend high-

• I interviewed a woman who is first generation in America from japan. she stated that any sort of education
allows her to be hired and more importantly taken seriously. She feels pressured to fulfill the stigma of
having a high degree because of her Asian background.
• Her mother always pressured her to chase an education, so she can be independent and take care of
herself. She doesn’t feel that an education is necessary for success but feels that an education opens more
doors to be successful.
• She has been attending Niagara County Community College for two years.

College, about how much she values education
• When asked how valuable an education is she claimed her education is valuable only when
looking to qualify for a job.
• She claimed that its just what she was taught, to go to school and get an education. She feels that
an education isn’t necessary for success but makes the path a lot easier.
• When asked how her family values education she claimed they don’t. Her parents didn’t go to
school and it was always an option for her to attend a higher education. She is the only one of 13
kids to receive a higher education
