Cheryl Anglin is an Early Head Start teacher in Caribou, ME who recently moved from Los Angeles to be closer to her sister's family. She lives with her roommate and their six pets on a property with a pond that is frequented by various wildlife. Anglin has over 20 years of experience teaching PreK-1st grade and is pursuing her Master's degree in Reading Literacy from Ashford University. While she has limited experience with assistive technology, she believes technology can be a valuable classroom tool when implemented effectively.

2. My introduction
Hello, my name is Cheryl Anglin and I am
currently an Early Head Start Teacher in
Caribou, ME. I moved to Maine two years
ago from Los Angeles, CA and love the
change of pace and lifestyle! I moved here
to be near my sister’s family so I could be
more actively involved with her three sons
rather than a long-distance Aunt.
I have a cat named Jasmine and live with a
roommate and her three pets. We love the
beauty of Maine and the peacefulness of
our house and pond. We have several
varieties of wild ducks, Canada geese, blue
heron, kingfishers, deer and an occasional
moose wander through the yard to our
pond, it is truly a blessing to live in such a
beautiful place.

5. My professional background
I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts
in Elementary Education with a minor
in Early Childhood Education from
Concordia University in
Portland, Oregon. I have been a
teacher for over 20 years with most
of my career spent teaching PreK-1st
grades.
I have always wanted to return to
school for my Master’s and decided
to pursue that dream this year. I am
working on an MAED in Reading
Literacy and this is my third class at
Ashford University. I look forward
to being able to take what I am
learning back into my classroom now
and in the future!

6. My experiences with assistive technology and technology in
the classroom setting
I have not had a great deal of
experience with assistive technology
in my classroom. Several years ago, I
did have a student who wore hearing
aids in my Kindergarten class. Having
her in my class made me very aware
of how much we take our hearing for
granted. I learned through working
with she and her parents how
important speaking clearly and
providing a clear line of vision to a
speaker are for hearing impaired
individuals.
Since beginning my Master’s
program, I had a brief introduction in
my first class to assistive technology.
I am looking forward to a more indepth look at assistive technology
and how to include it in my classroom
in the future.
I believe that technology is a valuable
tool to include in our classrooms! When
I taught Kindergarten in
Lawndale, CA, we used a computerbased literacy program called
“Breakthrough to Literacy,” this
program was amazing and provided a
strong base for our language arts
program. Seeing all twenty of my ESL
students reading and comprehending in
English by the end of Kindergarten was
an amazing experience as an educator.
I believe including new technology in our
classrooms today is crucial to helping
our students succeed in school and in
their future careers.
