My Philosophy of Education
I believe each child has the ability to reach his true potential with the right
opportunities and training. Meaningful education is student-centered, focusing on
student success. Students will respond to developmentally appropriate instruction when
given high expectations that take into account how the student learns best. Children
need to know they are cared for, believed in, and supported in their learning goals. They
need positive reinforcement in their achievements, and celebrations in their successes.
They need to feel valuable, safe, and capable of reaching their dreams. Envisioning the
adult that each child will become is strong motivation for educators to help each
student gain the skills necessary to live and compete in an ever changing world. Guiding
students in safe effective use of technology, modeling lifelong learning, allowing for
teamwork and collaboration, and encouraging personal responsibility are valuable ways
educators can help students prepare for life in a rapidly evolving global society.

Evidence supporting Professional Development Goals
2014
(1)
*Attended all Jackson County Media Resource Specialist meetings
*Joined the Media Specialist Consortium at NEGA RESA and attended all
official meetings
*Subscribed to and read Professional Magazines... Eschool News; Library
Media Matters;
*Joined the Media Listserv for collaboration with others integrating
technology into the curriculum
*Spent time with Beth Rembe learning how to image computers and check
printer issues
*Spent time with JillWeldon preparing ipads loading apps and learning tips
for instructing students on their use; learning to trouble shoot smartboards;
saving student work to P drives; managing the MediaCast cart;
*Participated in all day ITS training March 6th.
(2)
*Developed and presented lessons modeling technology and digital tools helpful to students in
understanding concepts being taught and for gathering, creating, and presenting their work to others.
Modeled using the Follett Shelf to read GSES’s collection of ebooks. Students learned the features/tools
on the different ebooks, followed by practice opening and reading books.
Use of the library online catalog system (Destiny) was modeled for students in grade and up. Students
were given activity cards with titles and authors for practice searching.
Provided an orientation to all students on safe use of the Ipads
Explained the research process to second grade. Mrs. Laird's class researched an animal of choice and
prepared powerpoint presentations to share their information with the class. Presentation and listening
skills were addressed as well.
Modeled creating an informational animoto video and showed samples of completed projects. To follow
our story on Diary of an Earthworm, students researched earthworms to find facts to include in the
video. Steps were followed to produce an animoto video on earthworms.
After reading stories with classes, I modeled the story cube. Students filled in the information online to
create the cube focusing on the elements of the story. One side was setting, one was for characters, one
for plot, one for problem, one for resolution, and one for theme. We printed this out and taped it
together for review.
Prior to reading Manatees, third grade used an online KWL chart creator. Students gave pieces of
information they already knew to type in the K section. Questions students had were type into theW
section. After reading the book, student comments on what was learned was typed into the L section of
the chart. This was printed out for latter review.
Third grade classes were shown how to find pictures on select “safe” sites and save them to the P drive
for use in shape collage and Animoto videos depicting their choice of topics.
Mrs. Lance's class was instructed on camera use. They collaborated on wording for a video to be shown
during “ReadAcrossAmerica” week. They chose to depict themselves “Reading Here andThere... and
Everywhere.” Students decided on the wording, order of pictures, and music. They used the Animoto
software to present a video with a school background, including the pictures they took and words they
wrote themselves.
Technology lessons were prepared for Pre-k and Kindergarten that included smartboard activities to
follow a book read, or informational piece presented to them. The song/video “Seasons of theYear” was
followed by a smartboard vortex activity. Pictures depicting Spring were to put into the Spring vortex.
Pictures depicting another season were to put in the vortex marked,“Not in spring” followed by
student telling which season was being depicted.
Navigating the school web page to find student resources was modeled for classes, followed by time for
students to practice getting into needed resources, esp. Nettrekker and FactMonster.
Navigating online reference books was modeled to students.
Participated in ITS training all day March 6th.
Thank you for the opportunity!

  • 2. My Philosophy of Education I believe each child has the ability to reach his true potential with the right opportunities and training. Meaningful education is student-centered, focusing on student success. Students will respond to developmentally appropriate instruction when given high expectations that take into account how the student learns best. Children need to know they are cared for, believed in, and supported in their learning goals. They need positive reinforcement in their achievements, and celebrations in their successes. They need to feel valuable, safe, and capable of reaching their dreams. Envisioning the adult that each child will become is strong motivation for educators to help each student gain the skills necessary to live and compete in an ever changing world. Guiding students in safe effective use of technology, modeling lifelong learning, allowing for teamwork and collaboration, and encouraging personal responsibility are valuable ways educators can help students prepare for life in a rapidly evolving global society.

  • 24. (2) *Developed and presented lessons modeling technology and digital tools helpful to students in understanding concepts being taught and for gathering, creating, and presenting their work to others. Modeled using the Follett Shelf to read GSES’s collection of ebooks. Students learned the features/tools on the different ebooks, followed by practice opening and reading books. Use of the library online catalog system (Destiny) was modeled for students in grade and up. Students were given activity cards with titles and authors for practice searching. Provided an orientation to all students on safe use of the Ipads Explained the research process to second grade. Mrs. Laird's class researched an animal of choice and prepared powerpoint presentations to share their information with the class. Presentation and listening skills were addressed as well. Modeled creating an informational animoto video and showed samples of completed projects. To follow our story on Diary of an Earthworm, students researched earthworms to find facts to include in the video. Steps were followed to produce an animoto video on earthworms. After reading stories with classes, I modeled the story cube. Students filled in the information online to create the cube focusing on the elements of the story. One side was setting, one was for characters, one for plot, one for problem, one for resolution, and one for theme. We printed this out and taped it together for review.
  • 25. Prior to reading Manatees, third grade used an online KWL chart creator. Students gave pieces of information they already knew to type in the K section. Questions students had were type into theW section. After reading the book, student comments on what was learned was typed into the L section of the chart. This was printed out for latter review. Third grade classes were shown how to find pictures on select “safe” sites and save them to the P drive for use in shape collage and Animoto videos depicting their choice of topics. Mrs. Lance's class was instructed on camera use. They collaborated on wording for a video to be shown during “ReadAcrossAmerica” week. They chose to depict themselves “Reading Here andThere... and Everywhere.” Students decided on the wording, order of pictures, and music. They used the Animoto software to present a video with a school background, including the pictures they took and words they wrote themselves. Technology lessons were prepared for Pre-k and Kindergarten that included smartboard activities to follow a book read, or informational piece presented to them. The song/video “Seasons of theYear” was followed by a smartboard vortex activity. Pictures depicting Spring were to put into the Spring vortex. Pictures depicting another season were to put in the vortex marked,“Not in spring” followed by student telling which season was being depicted. Navigating the school web page to find student resources was modeled for classes, followed by time for students to practice getting into needed resources, esp. Nettrekker and FactMonster. Navigating online reference books was modeled to students. Participated in ITS training all day March 6th.
