What is edge rank and how is it relevant to facebook marketing?Did u find that some people or some pages that u liked are appearing more often than others……this is the reason why…there is some rank assigned to all such posts or page updates (fb call such actions as edges) based on some criteria…wht we’ll discuss soonThat means whenever a friend posts a status update, comments on another status update, tags a photo, joins a fan page, or RSVP's to an event it generates an "Edge," and a story about that Edge might show up in the user's personal newsfeed. So, Edge Rank is basically an algorithm which ranks the edges…..And id decides wht appears on ur wall and more importantly wht u r gonna be interested in..Importance for social media marketers: Is my target audience even aware of wht I m trying to convey cause even if some1 likes my page it may not be posting feeds on their wall….
All of them generates an "Edge," and a story about that Edge might show up in the user's personal newsfeed.
U – affinity…or the relationship….if I interact more with some1 (ex- wall posts or messages or liking their pics or commenting their status etc.)For a company active on fb, it thus becomes essential to interact with its target customers or making ur posts interactive. Merely liking the page doesn’t guarantee ur posts wil be shown in their feeds. (if u interact with sum1)W – Weight……No clarity on hw it actually works…fb is very discreet abt it….but researchrshav noticed that weight for a comment is more than a like or a share…..mainly because it is more social and interactive……..D – Time…..so basically wht gets posted right nw will reflect in ur feeds whereas something posted 3 hrs ago might notStudies have shown that the best time to post are….7am,5pm and 11pm EST…as most fb users are americans
There actually appears to be two algorithms, although this has not been conclusively proven. The EdgeRank algorithm ranks stories, and a second algorithm sorts the newsfeed. This newsfeed algorithm includes a randomization element and a keyword aggregator. Zuckerberg mentioned in an interview with TechCrunch that Facebook users found it eery how well Facebook knew what they were interested in, so they started randomizing the newsfeed slightly.

there is no "general EdgeRank score" because each fan has a different affinity score with the page.Furthermore, Facebook keeps the algorithm a secret, and they're constantly tweaking it. So the value of comments compared to likes is constantly changing.Lastly, fan pages never appear in the newsfeed--stories by/about the pages show up. So I really don't care about the EdgeRank score of the page, I only care about the EdgeRank score of the status update (which is affected by the EdgeRank score of the page).
All those likes and comments will increase the Affinity Score between each fan and your page, boosting how many fans see your status updates in their newsfeed.
