How do we affect the ecosystem
For levels 8
Natural Resources
• supplied by nature
• renewable and non- renwable sources
• being depleted by humans which causes
Global warming and harm to everyone.
Renewable Non- Renewable
• fossil fuels
• cannot be replaced
when they are used
• Air
• water
• soil
• forests
• wildlife
• should not be overused
• replaced by natural
cycles
Deforestations: Why are forests cleared?
• to meet increasing demands for land
• for materials (wood)
• needed for urban development
• growing grassland and animal grazing
• firewood is a source of fuel
• for growing crops
• wood is used as a construction material and
is turned into pulp for making paper
Effects of Deforestation
• Soil Erosion
• Flooding
• Desertification
• Climate Changes
Soil Erosion
• this is when the top soil (fertile layer) gets
eroded
• leads to flooding
• top soil is exposed to hard rains because the
tree leaves are not there to cover it
Flooding
• caused by soil erosion
• eroded soil will be deposited to the rivers,
therefore blocking the flow of water, hence
water level will increase causing flood.
Desertification
• it is also caused by over grazing
• since there is no more trees covering the soil,
the sunlight will hit the soil directly.
Therefore, the water in the soil will vaporize
causing the soil to harden and be barren
Climate Changes
• When trees are cleared, there will be fewer
clouds, less transpiration and less rainfall
therefore the area becomes dry and warm
hence, rainfall decreases.
