2. Economy before soviet
invastion
• Before the Soviet invasion in 1979, the economy was
almost entirely controlled by the government of
Afghanistan, with most investments taking place within
the public sector
 The private sector extended only to agriculture and
trade.

3. Economy of Afghanistan
 The economy of Afghanistan has improved
significantly since 2002 due to the infusion of billions of
dollars in international assistance and investments as
well as remittances from Afghan expats
 The help that came from expats and outside
investments saw this significant increase when there
was more political reliability after the fall of the many
terrorists groups in the early 2000s like the Taliban. The
recent improvement is also due to dramatic
improvements in agricultural production and the end
of a four-year drought in most of the country.
