This document presents the Whale Optimization Algorithm (WOA) as a novel approach to solve the economic dispatch problem in power systems, focusing on minimizing both fuel and emission costs. The algorithm's performance is evaluated using the IEEE 30-bus system and is found to deliver better results compared to the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), achieving a notable cost optimization. The study highlights WOA's effective convergence properties and suggests potential improvements through the combination of algorithms.
