This document provides an analysis of Ecclesiastes 11. It includes:
1) A summary of the key verses and themes about helping others without expectation of return and obeying God's will despite circumstances.
2) An outline dividing the passage into sections about trusting in God's timing and ultimately being judged.
3) Detailed interpretations of individual verses examining original Hebrew words and concepts.
The overall message encourages spreading kindness, sowing seeds of faith regularly, and remembering God will judge all actions, so youth should avoid evil and turn to their Creator.
This document discusses the meaning and importance of the numbers in 2014 based on biblical numerology. It begins by breaking down 2014 as 20 + (2x7) and explaining the meanings of 20, 7, and 14. It then explores the importance of the number 7 in the Bible through examples like the 7th day of rest. The document outlines biblical precedents for observing a Sabbath year of rest every 7 years as well as a Year of Jubilee every 49 years. It claims 2014 is a significant year as a lead up to the Sabbatical year of 2015. It promises blessings in 2014 for the obedient and concludes with a prophetic declaration of divine favor.
1) The document discusses when the 70 weeks of years prophesied in Daniel 9:24 began. It argues they began with the decree of Artaxerxes in Ezra 7, which authorized Ezra to rebuild Jerusalem after the Jews returned from exile.
2) Key evidence provided includes that the decree specifically mentions rebuilding Jerusalem, not just the temple, and resulted in the Jews undertaking the construction of walls and foundations of the city.
3) The author analyzes the language in Daniel 9:25 and concludes the "word" referred to rebuilding the city, not an earlier decree concerning the temple, and must have been the decree of Artaxerxes recorded in Ezra.

This document is the introduction to Genesis chapters 1 and 2 from the New International Version of the Bible. It provides the biblical passages from Genesis in a formatted text for reading. The introduction welcomes readers to the AGES Digital Library and its goal of making religious texts more accessible to all. It then presents the first two chapters of Genesis, which describe God creating the heavens, earth, plants, animals, and humanity over the course of six days and resting on the seventh.
The document provides details about the first seven chapters of Genesis in the Old Testament. It describes God's creation of the world in seven days, the creation of Adam and Eve and their placement in the Garden of Eden. It then summarizes their disobedience and fall from grace, resulting in God's punishment. The document next discusses Cain and Abel, the first children of Adam and Eve. Finally, it previews God's decision to send a great flood to destroy the earth's population due to their wickedness, and his instructions to Noah to build an ark to survive the flood with his family.
This document discusses the stages of spiritual maturity from disciple to apostle. It compares this journey to the stages of fruit bearing in the Bible.
The three stages discussed are:
1. The first 3 years/as a disciple where the fruit is uncircumcised and not eaten. This represents being a new believer.
2. The 4th year where the fruit is holy but not yet eaten, representing growing in strength and the word abiding in you.
3. The 5th year and beyond/as an apostle, where the fruit is fully yielded and eaten, representing spiritual fathers who bear the fruit of the spirit abundantly.
The chapter begins with a reproof of the Jewish people for neglecting to rebuild the temple after returning from exile in Babylon. God contends with them through famine and drought as punishment. The prophet Haggai encourages the people to resume construction of the temple, assuring them that God is with them. The people had grown complacent, saying it was not yet time to rebuild the temple, but focusing instead on improving their own homes. God responds by withholding rain and sun from the land, ruining crops and causing hardship, in order to motivate the people to prioritize rebuilding God's house over their own comforts.
The document provides an overview and summary of the key points in the book of Habakkuk. It discusses how Habakkuk uniquely spoke to God about the people's sins rather than speaking for God to the people. It summarizes God's response that Babylon would punish Judah for their sins. It also highlights the key themes of having patience while waiting for God's promises to be fulfilled and living by faith in God even during difficult times.
A verse by verse commentary on Genesis chapter 2 dealing with God's seventh day of rest, and his creation of Eden where he put man, and then made Adam a wife from his own rib.

The document aims to show Jesus' deity from the Old Testament.
David's Magnificent Temple Built in the FleshShawn Nelson
This paper presents evidence that Solomon’s Temple was not God’s will but was the product of David’s flesh. God promised that one of David’s descendants would build a “house” for His name through Nathan the prophet. David either misunderstood God’s response through Nathan or was so determined to build his temple that he read his own will into what God revealed. Nonetheless, God blessed the temple anyway as a concession.
1. The document discusses the second coming of Jesus Christ and the events that will occur on Judgment Day, including the destruction of the heavens and earth.
2. Several key facts about Judgment Day are provided, such as the resurrection of both the righteous and the wicked, Satan being judged, and people being judged according to their deeds based on books that are opened.
3. The judgment will result in either condemnation for those not written in the book of life or reward for the righteous, as the just will be separated from the unjust. Belief, repentance, confession, baptism and obedience to God's word are urged to be saved from this generation.
The document provides an overview of the Godhead (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) and their roles in creation according to Genesis chapters 1 and 2. It discusses how God created mankind to have fellowship and relationship, unlike other creatures. It then summarizes the creation of Adam and Eve, their placement in the Garden of Eden, and God's command not to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. The document aims to stir up the reader's mind by exploring its interpretations of these biblical passages.
This document discusses God's seal for survival during the end times. It explains that God is presently sealing his people to protect them during the time of trouble. The Holy Spirit accomplishes this sealing by writing God's law, including the Ten Commandments, on our hearts and minds. Keeping the Sabbath holy was part of God's original plan and shows we are worshippers of God. Jesus and the apostles kept the Sabbath, setting an example for Christians to follow. God is waiting to send Jesus until all his
The document provides an overview of gentiles in the Bible, including:
1) Gentiles referred to non-Israelite peoples and had religions that contradicted the one true God. Their worship involved idolatry and immoral practices.
2) Gentiles originated from Noah's sons after the flood and were scattered across regions after the Tower of Babel.
3) Abraham was called to be a father of many nations, with promises that through his descendants all families of the earth would be blessed. His descendants included both Israelites and other groups.

Genesis ch. 7;1 9;17, Ark’s size, go or come, genea, only entrance, God reme...Valley Bible Fellowship
Genesis Chapter 7 documents the biblical account of the Great Flood during Noah's time. Some key points include:
- John MacArthur notes there are over 270 flood stories worldwide that can be traced back to this one global flood event described in Genesis.
- The dimensions and carrying capacity of Noah's Ark are described, showing it was large enough to hold all the animals God commanded Noah to bring.
- God instructs Noah to bring onto the ark 7 pairs of every clean animal and 2 pairs of every unclean animal. The distinction between clean and unclean animals predates the Mosaic Law.
- For 40 days and nights, rain fell heavily as all the springs of the great deep burst open and
The document discusses the three angels' messages of Revelation 14:6-12. It explores who the Creator is based on biblical passages, highlighting evidence that Jesus Christ created all things. It examines the details of creation week and the seventh-day Sabbath as the Creator's signature. The document argues that the first angel's message calls people to worship the Creator by observing the Sabbath.
1) The document is an excerpt from the book of Genesis in the Old Testament of the Bible. It describes God's creation of the heavens, earth, plants, animals, and mankind over 6 days.
2) It then provides more details about God creating Adam and Eve and placing them in the Garden of Eden, where they are tempted by a serpent to eat forbidden fruit.
3) As a result of eating the fruit, Adam and Eve are banished from the garden and must toil to survive. The document also describes Cain killing his brother Abel in one of the first acts of murder.
The document summarizes Genesis 1:1-19, which describes the creation of light and darkness on day 1, the creation of the sky on day 2, the separation of land and water and creation of vegetation on day 3, and the creation of the sun, moon, and stars on day 4. It discusses debates around whether plants were created with seeds already present or in full maturity, as well as debates around apparent age creationism. The document also examines biblical references to God stretching out the heavens and implications for the speed of light reaching Earth during the creation days.
A verse by verse commentary on Zechariah 7 dealing with Justice and mercy for widows, orphans, aliens and the poor. It also deals with the false fasting of God's people.
The document provides a summary of Lesson 3 from a series on "The origins". It discusses the biblical account of the creation of the sun, moon, and stars on the fourth day according to Genesis 1:14-19. It also explores some alternative theories that attempt to reconcile the order of creation in Genesis with scientific understandings. The final section of the document discusses theories around whether the days of creation referred to in Genesis were literal 24-hour periods or longer time frames. It argues that a literal reading aligns with God's example of working for six days and resting on the seventh.
Lesson 5 in a series on the Ten Commandments. This lesson on the fourth command was presented August 14, 2011, at Palm Desert Church of Christ, by Dale Wells.
This document provides summaries and commentary on various passages from the book of Leviticus in the Bible. It discusses the meaning of certain words and rituals described in Leviticus, and draws comparisons to other biblical passages and theological concepts. XXVI Revelation and the 70th Week of DanielLenny Hoy
Daniel's OT Vision of the 70 Weeks provides readers of John's Revelation with a valuable timeline along which to deploy John's NT vision's elements. The events that John chronicles do, in fact, occur within the OT's 70th Week; when we call the period 'The Tribulation' we thereby impress our Church-oriented slant on things.

The document discusses the biblical Sabbath, providing several Bible verses that reference the Sabbath being established by God at creation and reaffirmed in the Ten Commandments. It notes that while the antichrist has tried to counterfeit the Sabbath, God gave it as a blessing and that true rest is found in Jesus Christ, who created the Sabbath.
The document discusses the importance of generosity and giving. It notes that the key to a blessed life is having a heart of generosity. It provides several biblical references about giving freely and prospering. Generous people who give cheerfully will reap bountifully and be made rich in every way. God blesses those who honor him with their wealth through tithes and offerings.

The document discusses three instances in the Bible where the windows of heaven were opened. Each time, an abundance was poured out from heaven. The first was during Noah's flood, when God opened the windows of heaven to bring judgment through a torrential downpour. The second was when windows opened to transfer natural resources, changing a famine situation into a surplus. The third was when windows opened to pour out spiritual blessings too abundant to contain. Opening the windows of heaven signifies God releasing his abundant provision and blessing from the heavenly realm.
This document provides guidance on preparing for and following up with people who make decisions to follow Christ after an evangelism event. It discusses praying for the hearts of those who will attend to be open, understanding different worldviews, clearly explaining the gospel, and mentoring new believers. Key points include praying to bind Satan's influence, having entry conversations to learn people's worldviews, explaining the biblical and historical context of the gospel message, and caring for new believers like nurturing children as described in 1 Thessalonians. The overall message is about spiritually preparing people's hearts beforehand and providing ongoing discipleship afterwards.
People have said that "money doesn't grow on trees". But, did you know you can grow it? This presentation gives you insight into how the Kingdom of God works and how you can grow money so that you can take care of Kingdom business!
This document contains a prophetic word for the spring time given by Marco Lafebre. It is divided into seven parts addressing different circumstances people may be facing and God's plans for them. The first part compares the current situation to Noah and the flood, saying God has found the person righteous and will use them to bring loved ones into His kingdom. The second part instructs those wanting to leave a controlling situation that it is time to return to their homeland. The third addresses overcoming fears of past mistakes by receiving forgiveness. The fourth encourages using God-given authority to part obstacles like the Red Sea. The fifth says crossing current difficulties will lead to promised blessings. The sixth says God will use the person's priestly role to
This document is a sermon that analyzes and discusses the fourth beatitude from the Sermon on the Mount: "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled." The sermon examines what it means to hunger and thirst for righteousness, how one develops this desire, and what those with this hunger should do until they are satisfied. It uses examples from scripture and discusses how righteousness is an "acquired taste" that begins by claiming Christ's righteousness through faith.
This document provides commentary on Ecclesiastes 11:1 from several scholars and interpreters. It discusses the meaning of "casting your bread upon the waters" as a metaphor for generosity and charity. The commentators view it as encouraging believers to give to the poor and trust that God will provide reward, even if the generosity does not seem immediately fruitful. They note the reward may come after a long time, but is certain. The commentary provides historical context and analyzes the scriptural metaphor to reinforce the importance of charitable giving.
The Noahic Covenant established God's promise to Noah and his descendants after the Great Flood that destroyed the earth. God saw that mankind had become wicked and decided to flood the earth, but spared Noah, his family, and two of every kind of animal by having them enter the ark. The flood lasted over a year before the waters receded. God established the Noahic Covenant, promising to never destroy the earth with a flood again and set the rainbow as the sign of this covenant. The covenant also reaffirmed man's authority over the earth and prohibited the eating of meat with blood in it. It was an unconditional covenant that God made with Noah and all living creatures.
1) Time is a gift from God that we will have to account for. The average person lives 70 years with 408,800 hours of awake time, yet most Christians only spend around 8 days per year in religious activities.
2) We will be judged based on how we use our time on Earth. At the judgment, unbelievers will be cast into hell while believers will have their works judged to receive rewards or loss.
3) God can trust those who are faithful with small amounts of time to also be faithful with greater responsibilities. Being a good steward of time on Earth affects one's eternity.
The document discusses principles for Christians regarding their collection and giving. It outlines that Christians should set aside part of their finances every week to support the church and those in need. Christians should give willingly according to their means and show the proof of their love through generous giving. God loves cheerful, liberal givers who give purposefully without reluctance.
This document provides guidance for preparing to share the gospel with friends and family by hosting them in your home to watch a Billy Graham video in November. It discusses praying for those who will attend and learning their worldviews to understand barriers to understanding the gospel. It also reviews biblical parables to illustrate what happens spiritually when someone receives Christ and Satan's attempts to prevent faith. The overall message is to prayerfully prepare one's heart and understand others to effectively spread the gospel.
The document is a slide presentation on the biblical book of Ecclesiastes. It contains various passages from Ecclesiastes and other books of the Bible that discuss themes of wisdom, the futility of life, and remembering God. The final slides conclude that people should fear God and keep his commandments, as everyone will be judged by God for their deeds.
This document provides a summary and analysis of Revelation chapters 10-11. It discusses four main topics from the text:
1. The angel with the little book symbolizes that there will be no more warnings before judgment comes.
2. John is told to prophesy again, indicating continued preaching of God's message, even if it produces bitterness.
3. The measuring of the temple represents God knowing and protecting his people, the church.
4. The two witnesses symbolize Moses and Elijah, who will continue preaching God's message despite persecution for 1260 days.
The document analyzes the question "What aileth thee now?" posed by the prophet Isaiah. It summarizes that the main issues were: 1) the illusion of security from threats, 2) the illusion of finding happiness through reckless pleasure-seeking, and 3) the illusion of self-reliance without relying on God. The question calls the people to recognize these illusions and accept God's invitation to action by turning to him for true security, joy and reliance.
141207 eng the testings of faith by ps. jonathan limeaglepointcf
God tests people's faith through difficulties, demands, delays, and handling of money or wealth. The document discusses several Bible passages where people's faith was tested through lack of food, impossible tasks from God, long waits, and tithing requirements. It asserts that the testing of faith builds perseverance and maturity. Examples are given of Israelites tested in the wilderness, Jesus testing the disciples, and God testing Abraham and Noah through things not yet seen. The overall message is that God uses tests to strengthen believers' faith and reveal what is truly in their hearts.
The document discusses biblical passages and writings by Ellen G. White relating to physical health and diet. It provides numerous quotes emphasizing that God desires people to care for their physical bodies as temples of the Holy Spirit. Originally, humans lived much longer and were healthier following God's prescribed diet of fruits, nuts and grains. Strict dietary laws were given to protect health. When these are ignored, people essentially worship their own desires over God.
The meaning of bearing fruit in john 15 and the key of getting whatever your ...C J Yang
This document discusses two key points from John 15:
1) The meaning of "bearing fruit" refers to doing good works that God has prepared for believers to do, by abiding in Christ and following His will.
2) Verse 7 promises that any wish asked of God will be granted, but only if believers abide in Christ by looking for His will within themselves and following His teachings in their heart. When doing this, they will find that all their wishes are actually for needs to do God's work.
Does Our Lord really dislike yeast (leaven) and whyC J Yang
After reading this article, the author would like to establish the Incompatibility between what God was asking to have (sacrificing all the first born animals which were set apart when the worms opened; fresh/brand new) and the leaven/yeast (old stuff).
This document discusses who can be considered servants of God based on passages from Revelation and Ephesians. It argues that only Christians who follow Jesus as their head and do God's will from the heart can be called servants of God, not those who call themselves servants. True servants will be raised by the Holy Spirit, seated with Christ, and reign as kings in heaven and earth. The parable of the ten virgins is used to illustrate that not all Christians who receive the Holy Spirit are true servants accepted by God, and that being a servant requires paying the price to remove self and receive God's grace.
1) The document discusses the concept of "saved once, saved always" based on passages from Ephesians and other books of the Bible.
2) It argues that God predestined all faithful servants in Christ Jesus for salvation even before the world was created, based on Ephesians 1:1-5, 10.
3) However, it also cites passages like Hebrews 6:4-8 that suggest those who have tasted of the Holy Spirit and God's gifts can fall away and crucify Christ again if they sin and do not repent. This implies salvation can be lost.
The unjust (worldly smart) Steward (Luke 16:1-8); A role model that Christian...C J Yang
Jesus tells his followers to use wealth from unrighteous sources, such as money collected through ungodly means like taxation, to help the poor. This will allow believers to prepare for their eternal home in heaven. The parable of the unjust steward in Luke 16:1-8 is separate and refers to using worldly wisdom to prepare for life on earth, which believers should not emulate. Instead, Jesus instructs his followers in Luke 16:9-13 to faithfully use resources not from God to aid those in need, which will please God and gain them entrance to paradise.
1. The document discusses whether Jesus is subordinate to God the Father based on passages like Philippians 2:6-8. It argues that Jesus is fully God and fully man, having emptied himself by taking human form while retaining his divine nature.
2. It also examines Jesus' childhood and when he knew he was the Messiah, suggesting he grew in human wisdom through his experiences like other people while guided by the Holy Spirit.
3. The paper seeks to address these theological topics by analyzing biblical passages and views from theological sources to understand the dual nature of Christ.
What happen to physical body soul and spiritC J Yang
After death, people's souls will go to either Paradise or torment in Hades. The story of the rich man and Lazarus in Luke 16 shows that in Hades, souls still have feelings and awareness after death. Revelation 20 refers to both death and Hades delivering the dead for judgment before God. Some interpretations view death as controlling the body and Hades controlling the soul, while others see death representing complete control over a person's spirit, soul, and spiritual body. At the final judgment, all people will be resurrected and judged according to their works, whether righteous or wicked, to receive eternal reward or punishment.
When will we_(christians)_be_raised; before, during or after the Tabulation?C J Yang
The document discusses when Christians will be raised based on passages from the Bible. It argues that Christians will be raised in two times: (1) Some Christians ("saints") who were martyred for their faith or who rejected the mark of the beast will be raised to rule with Christ for 1000 years during the Millennium period. (2) Most Christians today ("ordinary Christians") will have their bodies transformed and be raised into the sky to meet God after the Millennium period, at the time of the Great White Throne judgment. The document concludes that "ordinary Christians" will not rule with Christ during the Millennium like some Christians, contrary to common teachings.
From the unity of husband and wife to see the three godheads' relationship in...C J Yang
The document discusses the relationship between husband and wife and the Trinity. It states that while husband and wife are different persons, they can become one by sharing the Holy Spirit and being led by the Spirit. Similarly, Christians can become one body through the Holy Spirit despite their differences. The Trinity consists of Father, Son and Holy Spirit who are equal in divinity but fulfill different functional roles, with the Son submitted to the Father. Examples from creation, earthly governance, and salvation are provided to illustrate the Trinity's internal equality and external functional submission.
Matthew correctly quotes Isaiah 7:14 in reference to Jesus. While Isaiah originally prophesied a sign to King Ahaz involving a young woman conceiving, the prophecy had a deeper meaning. It foretold that God would one day be with his people through the virgin-born Immanuel. Matthew sees the fulfillment of this prophecy in Jesus, as his name Immanuel means "God with us". Though the immediate context in Isaiah was different, Matthew recognizes the eternal significance that God would dwell among his people through Christ.
The document provides an analysis of the Book of Jonah. It summarizes that the book uses Jonah as an example to convey God's messages: (1) the consequences of disobeying God's orders, as shown through Jonah's suffering; (2) God's mercy and acceptance of repentant people, seen through Jonah's prayer and being made God's messenger again; and (3) God's mercy for those who return to Him, both for Jonah and Nineveh. The analysis examines key parts of the story, including Jonah's disobedience and repentance, God showing mercy to Nineveh after their repentance, and God demonstrating His love for all people to Jonah.
The Book of Ruth is included in the third division, or the Writings, of the Hebrew Bible. In most Christian canons it is treated as one of the historical books and placed between Judges and 1 Samuel.

It seems that current missionary work requires spending a lot of money, preparing a lot of materials, and traveling to far away places, so that it feels like missionary work. But what was the result they brought back? It's just a lot of photos of activities, fun eating, drinking and some playing games. And then we have to do the same thing next year, never ending. The church once mentioned that a certain missionary would go to the field where she used to work before the end of his life. It seemed that if she had not gone, no one would be willing to go. The reason why these missionary work is so difficult is that no one obeys God’s words, and the Bible is not the main content during missionary work, because in the eyes of those who do not obey God’s words, the Bible is just words and cannot be connected with life, so Reading out God's words is boring because it doesn't have any life experience, so it cannot be connected with human life. I will give a few examples in the hope that this situation can be changed. A375

Passage Summary
Help others to show your love in case you may need their help later, like casting bread above water or
sowing the seeds despite of day or night. Obey the Law in order to face the judgment from God at the
end of day since any good or bad days would become in vain at that time.

Creator before it is too late for you; when the judgment day comes (verse 10).
4. 4
Verse Interpretation of the passage
I . It is all God’s work and HIS Schedule (verses 1-6)
(1) Give a portion of your own to the needed because you will never know when and what will
happen to you (verses 1 & 2);
From 11.1: Stretch your helping hand (the bread) widely and without having anything
attached as the spreading of the waters without knowing where the bread; the help that
you have given, would go just as the water which does not know the direction that it will
stream to, and you will receive (from) him the day when you need it.
From 11:2: Give some of your belongings to group of people because you cannot foresee
when the disaster will happen on earth.
(2) God has HIS WILL and RIGHT to decide the time and place that things will happen (verse 3);
From 11.3: The distress will happen according to God’s time and place.
(3) Do not wait for the “right moment (from our point of view)” to start the work (like giving a
portion of your own) since we do not know what God’s doing is at all. (verses 4 & 5);
Do not use Human’s accumulated experience (like farmers) to foresee/forecast the best
time to conduct your next step since all the natural governing rules/schedule were set
up/decided by our Creator and you have no knowledge/control of them at all.
From 11:4: He who waits for the wind to die down or waits for the wind toward the right
direction in his opinion will never seed and he who is looking at the cloud anxiously and
waiting for the rain to fall will never reap because it is based on God’s governing rules and
schedule which man has no way to forecast/foresee.
From 11:5: Since you do not know what the path of the wind is just like not understanding
the baby’s development in a mother’s womb, therefore you will not know at all regarding
the work of GOD who will do all.
(4) Do your duty as God’s request for all of us at any time despite of the circumstances (from
our judgment) (verse 6).
From 11:6: In the morning sow your seed, and at evening withhold not your hand, for you
do not know which will prosper, this or that, or whether both alike will be good.
5. 5
II . Do good, Do bad, In front of people, In the Dark, God sees and will judge them all in our final day
(verses 7-10)
(1) Enjoy whatever God gave to you (verse 7 & 8a). More importantly; keep in mind that there
will be dark days to come. Then everything comes as vanity (verse 8b);
From 11:8: If man lives many more years, he should be happy in all the years but more
importantly he should remember that the dark days will come. Then everything will become
comes as vanity.
(2) You; Youth, enjoy what you see and how you feel (verse 9a). However, everything that you
did will be judged by God; your Creator (verse 9b);
11:9 Rejoice, O young man, in your youth, and let your heart cheer you in the days of your
youth. Walk in the ways of your heart and the sight of your eyes. But know that for all these
things God will bring you into judgment. (ESV)
(3) You; Youth, remove the grief from your heart, be away from evil and return to your Creator
before it is too late for you; when the judgment day comes (verse 10).
10a: You; Youth, should remove sorrow or grief from their hearts (since sorrow or grief may
be caused by the action that their hearts led them to do or think).
10b: You; Youth’ should also be away from evil (that influences in their bodies to cause them
doing the thing that would not please God).
10c: You; Youth, should return to their Creator by doing things above before it is too late for
you; the coming of the days of distress. (Because either in the days with pleasure or the time
of distress, the happiness or distress would be in vain since at the end God will bring
everything that we did; big or small, appearing or hidden, into HIS judgment. That is why that
the Preacher said) “for youth and the dawn of life are vanity”.

Comparing the meaning “as secure as crop” in Genesis 26:12 to Ecclesiastes 11:1
7. 7
(From http://biblesuite.com/hebrew/4672.htm)
Genesis 26:12 “And Isaac sowed in that land and reaped ( ) in the same year a hundedfold.”
Translation can be either find him or harvest (the crops).
1 Cast out your bread(containing with love; like Jelly Donuts or Chinese Dumplings) upon the
waters (stretch your helping hand widely as the spreading of the waters without knowing
where the bread; the help that you have given, would go just as the water which does not
know the direction that will stream to), for you will receive (help from)him (as harvest) after
many days.
Verse 4
“Whoever watches the wind will not plant;whoever looks at the clouds will not reap.”(NIV)
“He who observes the wind will not sow,and he who regards the clouds will not reap.”(ESV)
“He who watches ( )ר the wind will not sow ( )ע and he who looks ( )ה at the clouds
will not reap ( ).” (ASV)
:ר Qal, Participle, single male, watch, observe (http://biblesuite.com/hebrew/8104.htm);
:ע Qal, imperfect, 3rd
, single, male, sow/seed
:הQal, Participle, single, male, gaze at with
apprehension(http://biblesuite.com/hebrew/7200.htm);
: Qal, imperfect, 3rd
, single male, reap.
4. He who observes the wind (waits for the wind to die down or waiting for the wind toward
theright direction in his opinion) will never seed and he who is anxiously gazing at the dark
cloud (or looking at the cloud anxiously and waiting for the rain to fall) will never reap
(because it is based on God’s schedule which man has no way to forecast/foresee).
It’s our view or God’s view (Verse 1, 4 and 3b)
Tossed away our bread on the water (Verse 1a) sounds irrational and illogical from our (human’s)
“accumulated wisdom” since it would be “a waste” to us. Similarly it would be logical; especially
from experienced farmer’s point of view, of not spread the seeds if the wind is not in his
preferred direction (verse4a), gazing at the dark cloud and waiting for the rain and then working
in the field in order to harvest the crops (verse4b).
Apparently the author wants us to realize in here that it is God’s work and HIS vision; NOT ours,
to decide where the seed is going to land and when the rain is going to fall, even where the
tree is going to lie when it falls (verse3b).
8. 8
Verse 5
“As you do not know the path of the wind, or how the body is formed in a mother’s womb, so
you cannot understand the work of God, maker of all things.” (NIV)
“As thou knowest not what is the way of the wind, nor how the bones do grow in the womb of
her that is with child; even so thou knowest not the work of God who doeth all.” (ASV)
“As you do not know the way the spirit comes to the bones in the womb[a] of a woman with
child, so you do not know the work of God who makes everything.”(ESV)
6. (Since) you do not know what the path of the wind isjust like(not understanding) the bones
(baby’s development)in a mother’s womb, therefore you will not know the work of GOD who
will do all.”
: like or as
Verse 8
“So if a person lives many years, let him rejoice in them all; but let him remember that the days
of darkness will be many. All that comes is vanity.”(ESV)
“However many years anyone may live, let them enjoy them all, But let them remember the days
of darkness, for there will be many.Everything to come is meaningless.” (NIV)
“Yea, if a man live many years, let him rejoice in them all; but let him remember the days of
darkness, for they shall be many. All that cometh is vanity” (ASV)
8. If man lives many more years, he should be happy in all the years but (more importantly) he
should remember the darkness (days). Because when it becomes many, everything comes as
vanity.
9. 9
Verse 10
“Therefore remove sorrow from thy heart, and put away evil from thy flesh, for youth and the
dawn of life are vanity.” (ASV)
“Remove vexation from your heart, and put away pain (or evil) from your body, for youth and
the dawn of life are vanity” (ESV)
“Therefore remove sorrow from thy heart, and put away evil from thy flesh: for childhood and
youth are vanity” (KJV)
Both verbs “remove” and “put away” are Hifil.
In order to understand fully the meaning of verse 11:10, we need to proceed further to verses
12:1, 13 and 14.
In 12:1
“1. Remember your Creator in the days of your youth before the days of trouble come and the
years approach when you will say, “I find no pleasure in them”
Evil can mean distress; “in the day of evil” can be translated as “in the day of disaster” (Jeremiah
17:17)
If we add verse 12:13 and 14 combining with 12:1 into our consideration regarding the meaning
of verse 11:10:
12:1“Remember your Creator in the days of your youth before the days of trouble come and
the years approach when you will say, “I find no pleasure in them””
12:13 “This is the end of the matter; all hath been heard: fear God, and keep his
commandments; for this is the whole duty of man.”
12:14 “For God will bring every work into judgment, with every hidden thing, whether it be
good, or whether it be evil.”
We will see the meaning in verse 11:10 as follows:
Verse 11:10a: Youth should remove sorrow or grief from their hearts since sorrow or grief may
be caused by the action that their hearts led them to do or think. Like the Preacher ironically
mentioned in verse 11:9b; “follow the way of your heart and whatever your eyes see”(as
Mathew Henry mentioned in his NIV Commentary pp;883).
Verse 11:10b: Youth should also be away from evil that will have influence in their bodies to
cause them to do things that will not please God.
10. 10
Verse 11:10c: Youth should return to their Creator by doing things above before it is too late for
them; the coming of the days of distress. Because either in the days with pleasureor in the time
of distress, the happiness or distress would be in vain since at the end God will bring everything
that we did; big or small, appearing or hidden, into HIS judgment. That is why that the Preacher
said “for youth and the dawn of life are vanity”.
In King Solomon’s message, he reminded us the following:
In verses 1-6
Spread your love (helping hands) to all the needed despite of the circumstance; rational or
irrational, because we never know when we may need help from them whom we have helped
since God’s has His own schedule for everything. Combining this with sow the seeds anytime
(verses 5-6), what the preacher tried to tell us is that
Help others despite of the circumstance since we do not know when may need the help back
from them at the time of distress.
The author painted a picture for the readers to show that we always use our accumulated
experiences to foreseewhat is going to happen and then decide our next step.
In verses 7-10
The preacher ironically “encourage” us to do whatever our heart leads us to do and enjoy
whatever our eyes show us to see. But he also stated that no matter whatever we did, there will
be a final judgment at the end of our day from God regarding all we did in our life. Therefore, in
Verse 12:13, the preacher asked the readers to obey the commandments and that is all the
people in Old Testament needed to do.
Help others to show your love in case you may need their help later, like casting bread above
water or sowing the seeds despite of day or night. Obey the Law in order to face the judgment
from God at the end of day since any good or bad days would become in vain at that time.
The message from Chapter 11 sounds like more personal related; helping others from
personal love and for self-benefit.
11. 11
B. Application
In New Testament, It can be implemented as loving others by the love from God through us and
it is God who will receive him instead us.
Explain as follows:
In analysis of Verse 11:1 as mentioned previously,
Qal. 2nd Male single, imperfect tense, with 3rd male single ending
Comparing the meaning “as secure as crop” in Genesis 26:12 to Ecclesiastes 11:1
(From http://biblesuite.com/hebrew/4672.htm)
Genesis 26:12 “And Isaac sowed in that land and reaped ( ) in the same year a hundedfold.”
can be translated as find him or harvest the crops.
If we can combine these two meanings and apply it in New Testament, in my opinion it should
be translated into “harvest him”(by showing God’s love through us instead of “receive him”
through personal love in Old Testament).
Then we should be able to apply the teaching from Ecclesiastes 11 as follows:
Help othersand show them God’s love through us at any occasions. Spread the Gospel despite
of circumstances like sowing the seeds despite of day or nightsince we do not know when
God’s time is to let the seed grow.
Like Paul stated in Timothy 4:2
“Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season”
Obey the Holy Spirit’s guidance inside our heart to become blameless day by day. As Christian
we understand that we should not love the world and only should focus our eyes upon our
Lord.
