Assets of large industries are huge capital intensive investments and crucial in operations; while for growing industries, rapidly expanding asset base requires constant monitoring.
Asset management becomes a critical requirement of every organization for trouble free manufacturing that makes manufacturing activity efficient, on schedule and keeps costs down by reducing the chances of breakdowns.
Keeping track of equipment with its depreciated costs, repairs, revaluations and its movement is also important for accounts department.
Now, Eastern Software Systems offers a complete Asset Management software solution from its ebizframe ERP suite of products. It can work as a stand-alone software or can be interfaced with any other ERP for seamless operations of the organization.
Asset Management software has three major aspects –
 Keeping track of an asset with its location and its assembly
 Trouble free run of the asset with timely Preventive
and Breakdown maintenance
 Depreciation Register and its timely updation
About ESS
The software needs to be flexible enough to allow creation of locations and sub-locations to any layer because large plants or plants that grow dynamically with expansion come up with such scenario for better organization of their assets.
By offering nested BOM facility to create user defined assembly configuration, the software gives user the power to create this assembly for ease of maintenance and better traceability of different assemblies and spares that have created an equipment. It is much easier to maintain such a well- defined equipment and have better controls on spares inventory
Linking various suppliers for different assets, equipments and spares through asset master definition, a good asset management software raises the efficiencies in operations with faster access to required data.
For these equipments to run efficiently, a plant must have well organized preventive maintenance protocols. Each equipment and facility needs different preventive maintenance cycles, tasks to be performed, differing priorities and criticality factors. If these are taken care of, the plant can definitely have smooth run
The Asset Management software needs to have quick reference to in-house maintenance team as well as third party service providers. Maintenance department should also be on its toes with timely information about scheduled maintenance for various plants and equipments under its care. Calibration of critical lab equipments is a routine that has to be followed methodically.
Timely fill of spares with alerts for minimum stock levels, required for different machines is another important aspect of Asset Management. So, that no part of plant becomes non-functional for want of even a small item. Thus, Asset Management is a critical part of automation of operations and make a crucial difference between a
productive, efficient industry and an industry running below efficiency.
From accounts point of view, an Asset Management software should have facility to define different asset blocks for user defined asset depreciation both for company law as well as income tax laws. It should be able to revalue with addition of components or spares and shifting of assets from one location to another. The system must also provide provision for scrapping or selling an asset.
