On the statustracking page youwill see a
listof optionsthatincludescompensation,
education,healthcare,housing,insurance
and pension.
2. The firstsectioninthe status trackingpage is “Compensation,”whichisthe one thatmostof the
veteranswhovisitmyoffice would findthe mostuseful. Whenyouclickon“CompensationClaim
Status” youwill be directedtowardsa“Work inProgress”page (asseenbelow) whichisgoingtoshow
youall claimsyou have that are currentlyopen. Intenttofile meansthatyou,or someone workingon
your behalf, have submittedanapplicationthatshowsyoudowishtoapplyfor compensation inthe
nearfuture.Open applicationsare those thathave beensubmittedandopenclaimsare claimsthat are
actuallyinprogress.
My “Work inProgress”page isemptybecause all of my claimshave longsince beenresolved, butIcan
give youan ideaof what to lookforby displayingmy“Historical Claims”page (beneaththisparagraph).
The informationyou'll be able tofindoutfromhere isthe date the claimwassubmitted, whattype of
claimit is, (underthismenuit'll be forcompensation,obviously) andthe mostrecentupdate.My
updatesall say"DevelopmentLetterSent" or"DecisionNotificationSent," whichmeansitwasresolved
and theyhave sent me a letterexplainingthe resultsandthe evidence/reasoningthattheyusedto
come to those conclusions. If yousee thisupdate meansyoushouldbe gettingaletter and,if the
decisionwasfavorable, some money inthe nearfuture.Formostof youwho dowant to do status
trackinghowever,yourclaimwill probablynotbe resolvedasof yet.Thismeansyour mostrecent
update will saysomething akinto“SubmittedforReview”or“FurtherEvidence Needed,”orsomething
3. alongthose lines. Whenyousee that sortof statusyou shouldreceive aletterinthe mail prettysoon
explainingwhatfurtheractions,if any,are neededonyourpart.If the actionsrequiredare confusingto
youin anyway, go aheadandbring the letterdownyour local VSOandwe'll helpyougetitsortedout.
The greatestthingaboutthisstatus trackingsystemisthat the updatesare populatedhere longbefore
we'll evenknowaboutthematthe VSO.Thisis alwaysa goodfirstplace to checkin regardsthe status
updates.
So that coverscompensationtrackingbutwe still have five othersectionstocover, right?Fortunately,
not really!Mostof the statustrackers functionalongthese exactsame lines. The onlyexceptionsare
SpeciallyAdaptedHousing(SAH)andEducation,bothof whichare typicallyhandledbyexternal parties
so youwill notneedtoworry aboutfillingthemoutyourself. Sobasically,whenyou'velearnedtouse
one statustracker, youcan now use themall. Now youhave no more needtostay on hold forwhat
seemslike aneternity withthe VA claimshotline.Youcando yourveryown statustracking righthere
