East Kilbride was developed in 1947 as one of the first new towns established in Scotland after World War II to relieve pressure on Glasgow. It is located 13 km southeast of Glasgow and is divided into residential precincts, each with local amenities. East Kilbride has a strong economy centered around a large shopping center and malls. It has good public transportation connections to Glasgow by bus and train.
