Timor-Leste became an independent country in 2002 and has since made progress improving access to sanitation. The national plans aim to increase coverage of improved sanitation to 100% by 2030 through strategies like community-led total sanitation. Achievements so far include developing a national policy and strategic plan, and increasing access for over 60,000 people since 2008. Regional partnerships help Timor-Leste learn from other countries' experiences and strengthen its sanitation programs.
