For the first lesson, you will be introduced to the principles
we need to adhere in TV broadcasting, its features and most
importantly, the processes one needs to undergo in creating
a news program and in broadcasting such program.
At the end of this lesson, you should be
able to:
1. discuss the principles, features, and
process of TV broadcasting
Directions: Identify whether the following information is correct
or not. Write TRUE if the statement is correct or FALSE if
otherwise. Do this in your Journalism (English) 10 notebook.
1. A broadcaster respects everyone's human rights as well as the principles of his
craft. He or she believes that a person is innocent until proven guilty
2. A video signal is composed of two signals: the sound and audio signals.
3. Like newspaper, television is also a permanent medium of broadcast
communication.
4. It is important to be fair and objective in delivering news.
5. Television is an expensive medium because it requires lots of money, machinery
and experienced people.
1. TRUE 2. FALSE 3. FALSE 4. TRUE 5. TRUE
News anchor Rob is known for his fair commentaries
and accurate discussion of issues in his radio program.
Rob’s aunt won as town mayor last election. Recently,
however, his aunt was accused of corruption related to
the distribution of the Social Amelioration Program fund,
a budget designated for those poor families affected by
the Coronavirus Disease (COVID)-19 pandemic.
Directions: Imagine yourself as Rob. Given the
situation stated, what do you think are the
things that will bother you in dealing with the
said issue in your program? Provide three.
If I probe more about this and it will be
proven that my aunt is guilty, this might affect
my image as a news anchor because we are
related.
Television production is undeniably the most
difficult and demanding type of media
production. Creating a single package would
demand for numerous equipment from
lighting to cameras to even studios - to be
able to record and/or broadcast the news. It
will also demand for tremendous
accountability as video outputs will be
broadcasted.
As such, several principles must be
observed in TV Broadcasting. This is to
ensure that all materials subjected to
broadcast are of good taste.
In the Philippines, the Kapisanan ng mga
Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP), a media
regulating body, has set the
following principles on radio
and TV broadcast:
• TRUTH.
• OPENMINDEDNESS
• ACCOUNTABILITY
• BALANCE
• RESPONSIBLE
• AUTHORITY OF THE CONSTITUTION
• DIGNITY AND DECORUM
• RIGHTEOUSNESS
• CAREFUL AND PRUDENT
• OBEDIENT
• TRUSTWORTHINESS
• EFFECTIVE
• RESPECT
• You will be grouped into four (4).
• Your task is to explain the assigned principles of broadcasting. Provide
real life examples as you explain them.
• Group offers a yell first before the reporter/ reporters do their job.
• Delivery 5pts, Explanation 5pts, Examples 5 pts = 20 points
• TRUTH.
• OPENMINDEDNESS
• ACCOUNTABILITY
• DIGNITY AND DECORUM
• RIGHTEOUSNESS
• CAREFUL AND PRUDENT

• AUTHORITY OF THE
CONSTITUTION

A broadcaster should be committed to
truth. He or she should not alter any
information, detail, or event. Together with
this is the responsibility of correcting an
error immediately.
1.OPENMINDEDNESS to all and opposing
views and arguments is an important
attribute of a broadcaster. He or she is not
quick to judge by his or her own standards
but rather studies the various ways of
viewing an issue.
The broadcaster has the liability to the
public to be vigilant of the words he or
she utters and the behavior he or she
exhibits. Public Service is the
broadcaster’s principal objective
BALANCE in journalism and news publishing,
opinions, perspectives and fair discussion make a
good broadcaster. He or she clearly shows the
different sides of the issue. A broadcaster never
uses the TV to mock, curse, humiliate or insult any
person, regardless of gender, opinion, beliefs in
religion or politics, culture, race, or ethnicity.
The broadcaster is responsible in preserving his or her
name and in upholding the principles of KBP and the
station he or she is working with. His or her opinions and
sentiments are expressed appropriately – with due clarity.
The broadcaster studies and researches issues before he
or she airs them. He or she is critical but never offensive.
The AUTHORITY OF THE CONSTITUTION is promoted by
the broadcaster at all times. He or she defends, fights for
and protects free press and the rights of the audience to
seek and receive information.
DIGNITY AND DECORUM are being
embodied by a professional broadcaster in
word, mind, deed and personality inside
and outside the station. He or she is
humble in socializing with others.
RIGHTEOUSNESS is expected to a true
broadcaster. He or she stands for what is
right and discloses what is wrong. He or she
considers his integrity and honor at all times.
1.The broadcaster is CAREFUL AND PRUDENT
in the use and expression of sensitive and
critical information. He or she protects the
source of such information.
The broadcaster is OBEDIENT on the rules and
regulations already stated in the KBP National
Broadcast Code as well as in all broadcasting-
related laws. The broadcaster is honest and
does not prioritize personal welfare.
A broadcaster does not put personal gain ahead
of duty. He or she does not accept bribes, gifts
or favors that influence him or her to change his
or her stand or to distort the truth. A broadcaster
is honest in the conduct of gathering information,
photos, and images. A broadcaster does not
resort to plagiarism. He or she respects the
intellectual property rights of others.
The broadcaster is EFFECTIVE in the use of
radio and television to state the truth and
promote order, peace and development of the
people and the country.
RESPECT to fellow journalists, citizens and
institutions is a quality of a good broadcaster.
He or she respects everyone's human rights
and the principle and believes that a person is
innocent until proven guilty

• AUTHORITY OF THE CONSTITUTION
• DIGNITY AND DECORUM
• RIGHTEOUSNESS

Try to arrange the process in television broadcasting by writing the correct stages on
the appropriate boxes. Do this in your Journalism (English) 10 notebook.
Choose your answers from these entries:
• Your TV tuner will select the desired
channel from all the available ones.
• • Transmitters will send signals to
reach every household.
• • The video signal will flash on the TV
screen while the sound will be heard
from the TV speaker.
• • Videos captured by television
cameras and are sent to the
transmitters.
• • TV Antenna will pick up the signals
being broadcasted by the
transmitters.
