1. Student-Centered Coaching
with Diane Sweeney
September 8-9, 2012
EARCOS Weekend Workshop
hosted by International School Bangkok
Thailand
Workshop Description:
Are you wondering how coaching can be designed to make a measurable impact on student
achievement? Discover a model for coaching that does just that. Student-centered coaching
moves students towards mastery of the standards because it occupies the space between
where the students are and where they need to be. It employs the use of data—such as
student work and assessments—to help teachers make informed decisions about their
instruction. It is driven by a standards-based goal for student learning, and the coach is
viewed as a partner in moving student learning forward. As a result, both student learning
and the quality of classroom instruction are impacted.
Who should attend?
This session will address the needs of K-12 learning coaches from across subject areas,
administrators, and teacher or learning leaders who are interested in taking on a coaching
role to improve student learning.
Outcomes:
Participants will:
1- Gain an understanding of the theoretical framework for student-centered coaching
2- Learn how schools have implemented student-centered coaching across various subject
areas and grade levels
3- Gain knowledge of the techniques that are necessary for leading a coaching effort
4- Leave the session with specific tools and practices to ensure that coaching directly impacts
your students and teachers
