Configuration management has been one of the signature improvements that Drupal 8 brought us.
However, initially, Drupal 8 core only supported a very narrow use case and left the rest to contrib to figure out. In the second iteration of the configuration management initiative, we take the lessons learned from contrib and implement them in the core. But we have only a narrow window of time left to get things done for Drupal 8.
Now is the time to get involved, the deadline for 8.8 is very soon!
Participants of this session do not need to be experts on configuration management, having used the core config module and maybe config_split is enough.
You will walk away with good sense of what we are trying to bring to Drupal 8.8 and why it is important to get involved at the sprints during this event.
Efficiently theming a multi-site Drupal 8 portal - Drupal Dev Days Seville 2017La Drupalera
Our colleagues Nesta -Front-End leader in La Drupalera- and Enno -Front-End Drupal developer- teach in Drupal Dev Days Seville 2017 how to create your Sass/JS/CSS themes in case you have styles with common basic elements but different layouts, structures and contents in your multi-site installation. Such a challenge!
Erarta is the largest private museum of contemporary art in Russia. Its permanent collection contains over 4500 works by more than 350 artists from all over the country. The museum is located in Saint Petersburg and has galleries in London and Hong Kong.
An OpenCms-based website for Erarta was launched in 2012 starting with version 8.0. This has grown to a portal with thousands of articles, images, videos, an online shop and a number of integration modules connected to ERP system, delivery services, payment gateways and more. Key factors to the success where the transparent and intuitive user interface, the flexible access control model as well as the easy integration of external applications.
This session will show how OpenCms was introduced at Erarta and how the application has been evolved over the years, including updates from 8.0 to 8.5 and soon to 9.5.

This case study deals with the creation, migration and maintenance of all websites of Arkema, the biggest French chemical company.
A quick overview will firstly be drawn about both Arkema and Eurelis companies, to better understand how we have been organizing to centralize all Arkema's websites.
Then, two different OpenCms platforms will be described, both internet and intranet platforms: which architecture has been chosen, how they have been set up and configured to host around 45 sites each. Also, it will be presented an overview regarding how the projects have been managed to guarantee their success, and how the deployment of all websites have been handled including a quick presentation of the training for every contributor.
After, a focus on the evolutions occurred upon the last 3 years will be depicted, particularly concerning the product and range pages, making the Front-End responsive and the OpenCms technical migrations.
Finally, thoughts regarding the future of both platforms will be shared.

Recently Drupal celebrated its 15th birthday and while everybody is busy with learning Drupal 8 we would like to stop and take a look at where our beloved system emerged from 15 years ago.
Most of the people don’t know about history of Drupal and how it evolved from message board platform (Drop 1.0) to a fully scaled enterprise level CMS (Drupal 8.0).
Did you know some of key features of Drupal like modules, nodes, watchdog and multilingual support where available since Drupal 2.0?
This talk, presented at Drupal Global Training Days Montreal - September 2016 walks through features of Drupal 8, examples of sites built with Drupal, an introduction to the Drupal community and topics for learning Drupal theming and module development.
Drupal with CONTENTdm Digital Collections, Drupal Camp Vancouver 2012Marcus Emmanuel Barnes
CONTENTdm is a digital collections management application that provides several important administration features of value when undertaking a digitization project. Many institutions already use Drupal to power their web presence. CONTENTdm's native interface makes creating a single integrated website difficult. The CONTENTdm Integration Modules project was created by Mark Jordan of Simon Fraser University Library to solve this issue by providing a series of Drupal modules that help create a single integrated website - allowing the searching of digital collections hosted in a CONTENTdm server from within a Drupal website.
By the end of this talk, you will have a better understanding of:
*Why you would want to use CONTENTdm rather than simply Drupal for digital collections management;
*How the CONTENTdm Integration Modules work under the hood;
*How to install and setup these modules with Drupal to help present an integrated website.
This talk will be of particular interest to those who develop Drupal websites for use in libraries, archives, or museums, but also to Drupal developers and administrators in general.
Are you building a multilingual Drupal website and wondering how you're going to get everything translated? One of the major challenges of setting up a multilingual site is getting translations into Drupal, and keeping them up-to-date. Whether you're working with a team of translators or translating the site yourself, there are lots of tools and techniques that you can use to improve your translation workflow.
Evolution of Drupal and the Drupal communityAngela Byron
The Drupal project has experienced phenomenal growth over its more than 14 years, growing from a small hobby project to over 1 million known installations, over 1 million Drupal.org users, and more than doubling the active contributors and commits in Drupal core between Drupal 7 and Drupal 8, as well as thousands of people who depend on Drupal in some way for a living.
This talk will "de-mystify" some recent developments in the community, from the technical direction of Drupal 8, to various project governance changes, to the increasing role of the Drupal Association on Drupal.org. We'll look at both the historical context that brought those changes about, and talk about how they'll help us scale to the next 1 million sites and users.
Multiplier Effect: Case Studies in Distributions for PublishersJon Peck
Join members from both Four Kitchens and Meredith Agrimedia as they discuss the experience of migration and relaunch of the digital presence of two magazines: Successful Farming at Agriculture.com and WOOD Magazine at woodmagazine.com.
We'll start by discussing the scope of the projects, delve into the commonalities and differences, explore their common advertising and analytics implementation, and analyze the unified distribution that supports both brands. By developing the infrastructure simultaneously, brand-agnostic functionality became a priority which in turn created a more modular and flexible system that facilitated open-sourcing and cross-organizational sharing. Thanks to the codebase approach and experience, the first site took about 6 months and the second took less than 6 weeks.
In this session, it is demonstrated a development and deployment workflow used at Alkacon to maintain various OpenCms sites, currently with version 9.5 and in the future with OpenCms 10. Steps in this workflow include working directly in the OpenCms VFS through a network share, exporting modules automatically and committing the changed modules in a Git repository. The modules from the Git repository are then used in an automated setup with Jenkins and Docker to instantly deploy the site on a different server.
There are also shown enhancements in OpenCms 10 that will make such module deployment workflows easier. These include the option to install / update / export and delete modules directly through a network share. OpenCms 10 also improves the export format to reduce merge conflicts in revision control systems such as Git. Moreover, it will be possible to provide a local change set file for the configuration, which allows to distribute global XML configuration that is adjusted locally.
One Drupal to rule them all - Drupalcamp Londonhernanibf
Dries famous sentence (http://buytaert.net/one-drupal-to-rule-them-all) is becoming a reality for many organisations from small shops to the enterprise space. More and more stakeholders are following the idea of standardising their online presence in Drupal and leverage the same code and infrastructure amongst their different sites. What they are seeking is a drastic reduction in the time needed to create, launch and configure a Drupal site at the same time that they reduce the maintenance effort of the whole sites' network.
To achieve it, a drastic change needs to happen on the standardisation of development processes, more strict control of the overall architecture while supporting new changes and requirements, and repeatable and trustable deployment process to avoid the opposite pitfall of "one site to break them all".
In this session we will look to what needs to be thought when creating such an architecture from the development process to the infrastructure to host the different environments needed. We will look at different solutions that allow maintain these sites factories and walk you through several architectures explaining their advantages and differences.
Finally, we will look in detail to Acquia's Cloud Site Factory, a fully-hosted SaaS solution that allows organisations to quickly deploy and manage websites by the hundreds. Pre-define site templates, create new sites in a single click, manage roles and permissions across sites and connect to existing analytics and data systems.

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.
Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.

Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:
