Self intro Talk about keeping the attention of the audience with a different perspective
Quick non-commercial pitch about the company We are about platform + web services + focus on new user experiences. Unlike other players we are in the middle of the re-think literally Our vantage point allows us to provide a perspective of the carriers. Our Silicon valley roots allow us to bring a vision and innovation to this very tough challenge that lies ahead. We are in the middle of the rethink.
No emerging technology and innovation topic is complete without the discussion of Schumpeter and his concept of Creative Destruction. It was the buzzword of the 90’s dot com boom. He predicated that a healthy economy is actually characterized by constant flux where the old was destroyed by a new batch of rebellious entrepreneurs. That destruction was a natural part of the value creation process. What is interesting is that the economist mapped his predicted cycles over the past 200 year and found that they are indeed accelerating. This means that we (in the fifth cycle) have very little time. So the question I am asking is does there need to be complete destruction before the creation happens or is there a new approach esp. in the light of more organized r&d and more sophisticated business models. Before we go there – let me give you a little non-commercial pitch about Sylantro and why our vantage point is different.
Can there be constructive disintermediation – where each party willingly relinquishes control in certain areas for the greater good? Perhaps…but it cannot happen without a dialog. It seems that somehow somewhere we each took our positions with total disregard to the massive opportunity at hand. We have a massive communications problem technologically. But an even bigger one from an intra-industry point of view. So I thought why not try an interpersonal communications tool to solve this problem.
The 1:1 diagnostic was a tool that my marketing mentor taught me a while back and I thought we could apply it to the Telcos vs. the Rethink crowd. To me the Rethink crowd is also synonymous with the “Web crowd” if I may.
The 1:1 diagnostic identifies several potential challenge areas when interpersonal relationships aren't great. Communication, Culture, Motivation, Skills, and Values can be all major deterrents and we are not even at the point of agreeing about standards yet! So in the next few slides I will walk through a dialog between the Telco and the Rethink to highlight that we have some major non-techincal issues to resolve as well!
So these tag clouds need to come together in some way. I am sure there will be a lot of thunder and lightening but at the end of it there will be a sunny day at some point.
So by now the Telco says ok I am willing to join in but what’s in it for me? Well we could do nothing…but the future does not look very bright…
Wait, I could bundle some services using my same old closed service and business model and perhaps stem the bleeding for a while. But…the asymptotic don’t look too good any way. Telco says what the option? Well – how about we work together?
You open up your model and let the Rethink play and we create new multiplay services that increase the pie…. Telco is not sitting up and listening.
But I don’t know how… Well what if we pool our resources? What are you good at? And what are you good at Mr. Rethink?
