12. Dolby’s Footprint in Video
In 2003, Dolby acquired DemoGraFX, a pioneering technology
development company in the field of image signal processing and
coding, including the H.264 image coding technology resulting in
Dolby’s first Emmy Award for imaging technology.
Dolby has been a leader in the cinema industry for many years. Dolby
Digital Cinema was introduced in 2005 to lead the way into the digital
age of cinema exhibition.
Dolby 3D was launched in 2006 for theatrical exhibition systems and is
currently installed on over 8000 screens worldwide.
In 2010, Dolby launched the PRM-4200, a grade 1 video reference
monitor which since then has won several awards and is on its way to
replace the obsolete CRT as the state-of-the-art reference monitor.

13. Philips’ Footprint in Video
• Philips has been involved in video from the early days of TV, standing
also at the cradle of such diverse video products as the
VCR, professional cameras, DVD/Blu-ray and professional medical
imaging solutions.
• Similarly, Philips has made strong contributions to widely used video
coding and transmission technologies, participating from the outset in
leading video standardization bodies as MPEG, DVB, and ATSC.
• For over 10 years Philips has now been active to bring 3D to the home, in
particular glass-less 3D (autostereo); solutions range from 3D displays to
3D transmission formats to 3D video processing. This has resulted in one
of the world’s strongest technology portfolios on autostereo for 3D
content-creation, -conversion and -format.
